의사-기능 교수요목에 의한 영어교육

Abstract

외국어 교육의 과제를 "무엇"을 "어떻게" 가르칠 것인가로 본다면, 지금까지는 "어떻게 "에 대한 많은 연구 결과를 통해 여러 교수법 이론들이 소개되어 왔으나, 자신의 의사를 상대방에게 정확히 전달할 수 있는 교수요목이나 교재등의 개발은 교수법에 대한 연구만큼 진행되지 못한 것 같다. 또한 지금까지 우리나라 중고등학교 영어과 교육과정을 살펴보면 그 내용의 단원 범주 구성이 문법-구조 교수요목과 상황 - 맥락 교수요목을 기초로 전개하고 있으므로 학습지도 방법이 문법적 분석과 내용 설명 위주에서 벗어나기 어렵고 본래 목표하고 있는 의사소통을 위한 학습목표를 달성하지 못하는 설정이라고 할 수 있다. 의사소통을 이루려는 목표를 달성하기 위해서는 다음과 같은 노력이 필요하다고 생각한다. 첫째, 현행 교육과정에 실제적으로 의사 - 기능 교수요목을 도입하면 교육목표를 달성하는데 도움이 된다. 의사 - 기능 교수요목을 교육목표가 추구하고 있는 의사소통기능 달성을 그 기본 목표로 하고 있으며 교수요목 내용은 사람들이 언어로 표현하고자 하는 의미 ·사상·관념을 주로 다루며 교수방법도 의사소통을 위한 언어사용에 역점을 두고 있기 때문이다. 둘째, 문법 - 구조 교수요목과 의사 - 기능 교수요목은 배타적이 아닌 상호 보완적인 입장에서 연구되며 교육과정속에 같이 포함되어야 한다. 세째, 외국어교육학자, 응용언어학자, 그리고 관련된 모든 사람들은 외국어 학습목표 달성을 위해 의사 - 기능 교수요목에 대한 연구를 통해 실제 학습상황에 응용될 수 있는 교재 및 제시방법을 만들어 교사들이 사용할 수 있게 해야 한다. 넷째, 교사는 교재의 내용, 교수 대상, 학습자의 배경 및 필요를 감안하여 적절한 방법을 선택하며 또 기존의 교재를 응응할 수 있어야 한다. 그리고 학습대상과 내용에 대한 끊임없는 연구를 해야 한다.;To achieve the goal of foreign language learning, we must study not only the teaching theory but also the teaching materials and syllabus. However, we have not studied the syllabus as much as teaching theory. Our English curriculum in middle school and high school is mainly based on the grammatical-structural syllabus and the situational-contextual syllabus. So, it is difficult for our current teaching method to escape from the categories of structure analysis and explanation of materials. To accomplish the goal of foreign language learning-to communicate-the following are recommended: (1) The notional-functional syllabus should be included practically in the current curriculum, because the main goal of the notional-functional syllabus is to accomplish communicative ability and its content treats meaning, thought, and idea, which people want to express by language. (2) We can not disregard grammar and sentence structure. The grammatical-structural syllabus and notional-functional syllabus both should be studied to help each other. (3) Teaching materials applying to the notional-functional syllabus should be made and developed for the teacher to use them easily in class. (4) A teacher can select the most appropriate materials and teaching method according to the student's needs and knowledge. A teacher can change and apply the present teaching materials to meet the student's needs.
