데이터 활용을 강조한 SSI 수업이 중학생의 지식정보처리 역량, 과학과 핵심역량 및 민주시민으로서 인성 함양에 미치는 효과

Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 데이터 수집과 분석 및 활용의 가치가 중시되고 있는 4차 산업 혁명 시기의 중심에서 데이터 활용 교육이 중시됨에 따라, 데이터 활용을 강조한 측면에서 과학기술의 발달이 초래하는 다양한 쟁점들을 다루어 미래 사회에 필요한 역량에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 알아보고자 하였다. 이에 본 연구에서는 데이터 활용을 강조한 과학기술관련 사회쟁점(이하 SSI) 수업이 중학생의 지식정보처리 역량, 과학과 핵심역량 및 민주 시민으로서 인성 함양에 미치는 효과를 탐색하고자 하였다. 본 연구에서는 서울 소재 중학교 3학년 114명이 참여하였으며 정규 과학 수업시간 14차시에 걸쳐 진행되었다. 수업은 중학교 3학년 과학 ‘에너지 전환과 보존’단원과 ‘과학기술과 인류 문명’단원을 연계하여 태양광 에너지 발전을 주제로 조별 활동을 구성하여 데이터 수집, 분석, 활용을 중점으로 하는 SSI 수업을 진행하였다. 참여 학생들은 수업 전과 후에 지식정보처리 역량, 민주시민으로서의 인성 및 역량, 과학과 핵심역량, 에너지와 환경에 대한 지식과 태도를 측정하는 검사지에 응답하였다. 또한 수업의 교육적 효과를 심층적으로 탐색하기 위해 연구에 참여한 학생들 중 7명을 선정하여 데이터를 활용한 SSI 수업에 대한 이해와 역량 및 태도가 어떻게 변화하는지 면담을 통해 본 수업의 운영과 효과에 대하여 알아보았다. 연구 결과, 데이터 활용을 강조한 SSI 수업은 대부분의 영역에서 긍정적인 효과를 보였다. 지식정보처리 역량(다양한 관점의 수용, 사회적 책임감, 실천 의지 영역), 민주시민으로서의 인성 및 역량(다양한 관점의 수용, 사회적 책임감, 실천의지 영역), 과학과 핵심역량(과학적 사고력, 과학적 탐구능력, 과학적 문제해결력), 에너지와 환경에 대한 태도에서 통계적으로 유의한 향상이 나타냈다. 에너지에 대한 지식에서는 전반적으로 정답률이 향상하였다. 학생들은 데이터를 다루는 활동을 통해 데이터를 변환하고 활용하는 과정과 방법에 대해 알게 되고 그 필요성을 인식하게 되었다고 응답하였다. 또한 SSI에 대한 다양한 입장이 존재하고 문제 해결을 위한 실천이 중요함을 알게 되고 일상 생활에서의 에너지 고갈 문제에 관심을 갖고 절약하는 모습을 보이겠다고 응답하였다.;In an era when data is overflowing due to the 4th industrial revolution, the ability to analyze and utilize data according to data purposes is being emphasized. The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of SSI(Socio-scientific Issues) instruction with data utilization on middle school students' knowledge-information-processing competencies, scientific core competencies, and personality cultivation as democratic citizens. To achieve this goal, 114 ninth graders in Seoul took part in 14 lessons for SSI program. The SSI instruction was designed in accordance with the 2015 revised National Curriculum, "Energy Transformation and Conservation" and "Science Technology and Human Civilization". Data utilization classes on solar energy generation were conducted under the theme of energy depletion and power generation. Students collected and analyzed data, transformed information, interpreted it, and presented it in an appropriate form. In addition, based on these activities, we produced leaflets for making eco-friendly schools. For the data, the followings were investigated using four questionnaires before and after the program : knowledge-information-processing competencies, scientific core competencies, personality and competencies as democratic citizens, and knowledge and attitudes about energy and the environment. In addition, seven students voluntarily responded after training and shared in-depth experiences with SSI program using data. As a result, there was a statistically significant positive change in all areas of students' knowledge-information-processing competencies after the program. In addition, there was a positive improvement in scientific core competencies, character and competence as a democratic citizen, and knowledge and attitudes about energy. In the interview, the result showed that the students have formed a positive perception on the data driven lesson and recognized the need for it. This study is meaningful in confirming the possibility of SSI program with data utilization in science education and discussing various teaching and learning methods.
