다문화가정 학생들의 꿈의 오케스트라 활동 경험과 이에 따른 영향에 관한 사례연구

Abstract

본 연구는 꿈의 오케스트라 활동 경험이 다문화가정 학생들의 삶에 어떠한 영향으로 나타났는지 알아보는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 이를 위해 본 연구자가 근무하는 ★★ 꿈의 오케스트라의 다문화가정 학생 5명과 이들의 어머니를 연구 참여자로 선정하여 개별 심층 면담을 진행하고 이들의 오케스트라 활동을 참여 관찰하여 자료를 수집하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 다문화가정 학생에게 꿈의 오케스트라는 음악적 자아존중감, 자기 표현력, 심리적 안정감과 함께 사회성 변화에도 영향을 주었다. 그동안 다문화가정에 대한 차별, 선입견으로 인하여 자기를 표현하는 것을 두려워하며 심리적으로 위축되던 다문화가정 학생들에게 악기는 이들이 표현하지 못했던 마음속 응어리를 표출함과 동시에 자유롭게 자신을 표현할 수 있는 도구로 작용하였다. 따라서 사회적 차별로 인해 자신에 대한 부정적인 인식을 가질 수밖에 없고, 자기를 드러내는 것에 어려움을 가지는 다문화가정 학생들에게 기악 활동은 자기를 표현할 수 있는 좋은 도구로 활용될 수 있다. 둘째, 꿈의 오케스트라 교육을 통해 다문화가정 학생들의 가정에서 역시 음악적 교감과 유대감 등의 긍정적인 변화가 나타났다. 특히 꿈의 오케스트라는 가족들이 함께할 수 있는 다양한 문화예술에 대한 경험을 제공하여 경제적, 문화적 자본이 부족한 다문화가족 구성원의 예술에 대한 진입장벽을 낮춰 문화예술에 대한 접근성을 용이하도록 하였다. 따라서 앞으로 오케스트라 교육은 단원들뿐 아니라 이들의 가정과 연계하여 문화예술교육과 나아가 문화예술향유까지 연결할 수 있는 폭넓은 예술 경험이 나타날 수 있도록 하는 지원이 필요하다. 셋째, 꿈의 오케스트라를 경험한 연구 참여자들은 지역에 대한 소속감과 지역에 대한 애정을 나타내었다. 이러한 요인으로는 지역의 다양한 문화예술프로그램에 참여하는 것이었는데, ★★ 꿈의 오케스트라를 통해 다문화가정 학생들은 이전엔 경험하지 못했던 지역의 다양한 문화예술교육 프로그램에 적극적으로 참여하게 되었고 이는 지역에 대한 긍정적인 인식 변화로 나타났다. 따라서 오케스트라 교육 안에 지역사회와의 연계를 통해 지역에 대한 소속감을 느낄 수 있는 과정을 도입할 필요가 있다. 넷째, 꿈의 오케스트라는 다양한 사회적·문화적 배경을 가진 단원들로 구성되며 이것은 다문화가정 학생들과 비 다문화가정 학생들이 어울리는 통합 프로그램의 역할을 하고 있었다. 특히 이러한 통합 프로그램의 역할을 하는 요인은 ‘상호학습’과 ‘협력’을 중시하는 교육 운영에서 비롯되었다. 따라서 진정한 사회통합 프로그램의 역할을 하기 위해서는 단순히 함께 하는 교육이 아닌 공동의 목표를 설정하여 함께 어우러질 수 있는 다양한 교수-학습 방안들을 고안하여 학생들끼리 서로 차별하지 않고 ‘우리’라는 정체성을 형성할 수 있도록 도움을 주어야 한다. 본 연구를 통해 다문화가정 학생들을 위한 오케스트라 교육 지원의 중요성을 인식하여 더 좋은 교육 환경이 조성되어 이들이 앞으로도 건강한 사회 구성원으로 성장해 나갈 수 있기를 기대한다.;The purpose of this study is to discover the influences of Orchestra education to children from multicultural families and how it changes their life. For this research, 5 children in ‘El Sistema Korea Orchestra’ and their mothers of multinational backgrounds were chosen as participants of the study. Data were collected with methods of classroom observations, in-depth interviews and recordings. 4 major findings of this study are as follows. First, ‘El Sistema Korea Orchestra’ affects multicultural children’s sociability as well as their musical self-efficacy, self-expression, psychological stability. Especially for multicultural children, who were struggling with psychological stress and afraid of expressing themselves to others because of social discrimination and prejudice, playing musical instruments from orchestra acts as a good tool to freely reveal themselves and their suppressed emotions. Therefore, musical instruments can be a great method for children having negative feeling upon themselves due to the social discrimination to express themselves easily. Second, education from ‘El Sistema Korea Orchestra’ also bring positive changes upon their multinational family in terms of feeling bond with sharing musical appreciation. Orchestra education programs as ‘El Sistema Korea Orchestra’ can lower the entry barrier of experiencing art for multicultural family members, and enhance the accessibilities to the rich cultural life. In result, a related policies needs to be well-structured in order for orchestra education to provide not only its students but also their family members enjoying the education of art and culture together. Third, ‘El sistema Korea Orchestra’, consisted of members who have diverse social and cultural backgrounds, works as an inclusive program that connects between students from multicultural families and local students. This kind of program was originated from education operation which places emphasis on ‘mutual learning’ and ‘cooperation’. Therefore, in order to achieve true meaning of social integration program, it would be better to organize educational method with setting a common learning goal which can help children not to discriminate each other but recognize the identity of us. Lastly, the participants who experienced ‘El Sistema Korea Orchestra’ showed sense of belonging and affection to the region they live. This is because they can voluntarily engage in a variety of local culture and art education programs through ‘El Sistema Korea Orchestra’ and it changes their recognition upon local society in a positive way. Thus, curriculum aim for strengthening sense of belongings to local society should be introduced in orchestra education. This study implies the importance of supporting orchestra education for children from multicultural families which influences their life in various ways. With institutional support building better educational environment for those multicultural families, I wish for them to become good members of society.
