민주 시민 양성을 위한 중학교 "역사" 수업 방안

Abstract

본 연구는 민주주의 의식이 높아지는 현 시점에 맞게 민주주의 시민교육이 역사교육의 목표로 삼아져야 한다는 제기를 받아들여 중학교 <역사> 수업에서 민주주의 가치를 알게 하는 수업은 어떻게 이루어 질 수 있을지에 관한 고민에서 시작되었다. 한국 현대사는 민주주의를 위한 민중들의 희생이 서려있다. 그 역사인 민주화 운동사를 배우는 것은 민주주의 의식을 성장시키고 가치를 알게 하는데 있어 좋은 방법이 될 수 있다. 대체적으로 중학생이 고등학생에 비해 민주주의의 개념과 가치에 대한 이해가 부족하다는 연구 결과를 바탕으로 중학생을 대상으로 하는 수업방안을 세우는 것을 계획했다. 또, 중·고등학생이 가장 배우고 싶어 하며 배워야 한다고 생각하는 한국사 시대는 현대사였으며 그 중에서도 ‘5·18 민주화 운동’과‘6월 민주 항쟁’은 높은 선택을 받았다. 이에 따라 한국 민주화 운동이 가장 뜨겁던 1980년대의 이정표가 되는‘5·18 민주화 운동’을 관련한 중학교 <역사> 수업 방안을 개발하는 것을 본 연구의 목표로 삼았다. 기존 역사학계의 ‘5·18 민주화 운동’연구 성과를 검토하여 정리할 것이며, 2009 개정 중학교 <역사> 교육과정을 분석할 것이다. 현재 중학교에서 채택율이 가장 높은 2종교과서와 이전에 민주화 운동사 서술 분석 연구 결과에서 좋은 평가를 받은 신사고 교과서까지 총 3종 교과서의 내용을 비교분석할 것이다. 이를 바탕으로 학계에서 중요시 평가되는‘5·18 민주화 운동’의 성격과 의의가 교과서에서 부족하게 서술되고 있음을 지적하고 이를 보완할 수업방안을 마련할 것이다. 본 논문은 학생들이 배우고자 하는 현대사 영역 그 중 민주화 운동사에 관한 의미 있는 수업 방안을 마련하는 것에 의의를 두고 있다. 민주화 운동사의 개념을 단순히 아는 것에서 끝나는 수업이 아닌 학생들에게 활동을 통해 스스로 민주주의의 가치를 알게 하는 것을 제언한다는 것에 그 의미가 있다. ;According to the current increased awareness of democracy, this study was accepting the idea that democratic citizenship education should be a goal of history education and has begun with the question of how to teach the value of democracy in middle school <History> class. Korean modern history contains the sacrifice of the many people for democracy. Thus, learning about the history of democracy movement can be a good way to grow democratic consciousness and make sense of value. On the whole, based on the findings that middle school students lack understanding of the concept and value of democracy as compared with high school students, this study planned to establish a lesson plan for middle school students. In addition, the Korean history, which middle and high school students most want to and should learn was modern history. Among them, ‘5·18 democracy movement’ and ‘June Democracy Movement’ were highly selected. Accordingly, the goal of this study was to develop a teaching method for middle school <history> related to the ‘5·18 democracy movement’, which was the milestone of 1980s democratization movement. This paper will examine and review the results of the ‘5·18 democracy movement’ of the existing history academia, and will analyze the curriculum of the 2009 revised middle school <history>. This paper will compare and analyze the contents of the three kinds of textbooks, from two textbooks with the highest adoption rate in the middle school to the Shinsago textbooks that have been well evaluated in the democratization movement history analysis research results. Based on this, this paper will point out that the character and significance of the ‘5·18 democracy movement’, which is considered as important in the academic world, is insufficiently described in textbooks, and will provide a lesson plan to supplement it. This paper is intended to provide meaningful teaching methods for democratic movement history among the modern history areas in which students want to learn. It is meaningful to propose that students learn the value of democracy themselves through activities rather than a class that ends with simply knowing the concept of democracy movement.
