미술치료전공 석사과정생의 호스피스 미술치료 현장실습 체험연구

Abstract

본 연구는 호스피스 병동에서 미술치료 현장실습을 경험한 미술치료전공 석사과정생의 경험이 어떠했는지, 그들이 생생하게 경험한 그 체험의 의미를 탐구하고, 체험된 현상의 본질을 탐구하고자 진행하였다. 호스피스 병동에서 미술치료 현장실습을 경험한 석사과정생이 가지는 공통된 경험에 의거하여 그 현상에 대한 본질을 알아보기 위해 현상학적 방법을 채택하고, 실습생들이 무엇을 체험했는지, 어떻게 체험했는지 가능한 상세하게 기술하고 체험의 본질적 요소와 구조를 찾아 보고자 한다. 따라서 본 연구의 목적은 미술치료전공 석사과정생이 호스피스 미술치료 현장실습을 통해 경험한 것과 그 경험의 의미에 대해 알아보는 것으로, 실습생들의 호스피스 미술치료 현장 실습에 대한 이해를 높이기 위한 자료로 활용하고자 한다. 본 연구의 연구문제는 “미술치료전공 석사과정생의 호스피스 미술치료 현장실습 체험은 어떠하며, 그 의미와 본질은 무엇인가?”이다. 본 연구를 위하여 호스피스 미술치료 현장실습 경험이 있는 미술치료전공 석사과정생 7명을 참여자로 선정하였다. 2019년 3월부터 5월까지 일대일 심층 면담으로 진행되었으며, 1~2회의 면담으로 자료가 포화될 때까지 수집하였다. 수집된 자료들은 Max van Manen의 해석학적 현상학 연구방법에 따라 분석하였으며, 6개의 본질적 주제와 16개의 하위주제를 도출하였다. 6개의 본질적 주제는 다음과 같다. <처음으로 호스피스 환자를 마주하고 죽음을 바라보게 되면서 두렵고 무서움>, <미술치료를 통해 호스피스 환자들의 이별을 다루면서 막막하고 허탈함을 느낌>, <호스피스 환경이 주는 두려움을 이겨내고 극복해 나가기 위해 노력함>, <호스피 스 환자가 살아온 흔적을 되살리고 곱씹을 수 있도록 애쓰며 뿌듯함과 보람을 느낌>, <죽음을 마주한 호스피스 환자와의 미술치료를 통해 삶을 더욱 사랑하게 되는 귀한 경험을 하게 됨>, <미술치료 실습생으로서 호스피스 미술치료를 통해 진정한 치료의 의미를 깨달음> 이와 같은 연구 결과를 토대로 미술치료전공 석사과정생의 호스피스 미술치료 현장실습 체험의 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 미술치료전공 석사과정생은 다른 실습지와는 다르게 죽음의 바로 앞에 있는 환자들을 만나게 되고, 다른 실습지와는 다른 분위기에 무력감과 괴리감을 느낀다. 둘째, 미술치료전공 석사과정생은 미술치료를 통해 호스피스 환자들이 변화 하는 모습을 볼 수 있으며, 미술치료가 환자의 죽음을 받아들일 수 있도록 돕는다. 셋째, 미술치료전공 석사과정생은 호스피스 환자와의 미술치료를 통해 자신의 가치관이 변화하는 것을 느끼게 된다. 넷째, 미술치료전공 석사과정생은 호스피스 미술치료가 실습생으로서 그들에게 주는 의미를 발견한다. 이와 같이 본 연구가 미술치료에 기여하는 바는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 호스피스 미술치료 현장실습을 앞둔 실습생들에게 실제적인 생생한 정보를 제공할 수 있다는 점에 의의가 있다. 둘째, 미술치료전공 석사과정생이 호스피스 미술치료 실습현장에서 미술을 매개체로 만나고 언어로 표현하는 과정을 체험 하면서, 미술치료에서 미술이 가지는 특수성과 호스피스 관련 이론 연구의 필요성을 알리는데 도움을 주는 자료를 제공할 것이라 기대한다. 셋째, 본 연구는 미술치료전공 석사과정생이 현장실습에서 겪는 체험들을 글로 풀어내고 쉽게 이해할 수 있도록 도움을 줄 수 있다. 마지막으로 후속연구를 위해 자문형, 입원형, 가정형 호스피스와 같은 다양한 유형뿐만 아니라, 호스피스 환자의 가족에게 미술치료를 실시한 석사과정생의 연구, 호스피스 의료진에게 미술치료를 실시한 석사과정생의 연구와 같은 다양한 유 형의 후속연구를 제언한다. 또한 연구의 참여자는 실습생 역할에 대한 구분을 하지 않았기 때문에 연구 참여자들의 역할이 주, 보조로 고정이 되어있는 후속 연구를 제언한다.;This study is intended to understand how does work experience of hospice art therapy mean to students for a master’s degree in art therapy, and what meaning this experience has, which is to explore the nature of experienced phenomenon. Based on common experience that people have on working for art therapy in hospice ward, I adopted phenomenological method to understand the nature of the phenomenon, and to find out what the students experience, how they experience it in detail, and to check the essential factors and structure of the experience. Therefore, this study is to understand the meaning of work experience of hospice art therapy of students for a master’s degree in art therapy and to make use of it as material to better understand work experience of hospice art therapy. The issues from this study is “How is the work experience of hospice art therapy of students for a master’s degree in art therapy, and what is its meaning and nature?”. For this study, 7 students for a master’s degree in art therapy were selected, and they all had work experience in hospice art therapy. 1:1 in-depth interview were conducted from March 2019 to May 2019, and the data was collected with 1~2 interviews until the data was much enough to use in this study. The collected data was analyzed by using analytical phenomenology method of Max van Manen, and 6 essential themes and 16 sub-themes were drawn. They are as follows: ‘Scared and terrified facing hospice patients and witnessing their death for the first time’, ‘Felt hopeless and frustrated dealing with hospice patients’parting through art therapy’, ‘Tried to overcome the fearful environment of hospice unit’, ‘Felt proud and worth while endeavoring to bring back and dwell on the trace of life of hospice patients’, ‘Was a precious experience made me love my life more through leading art therapy session with hospice patients’, ‘Realized the true meaning of therapy by providing art therapy session to hospice patients as a trainee’. Based on these research results, I draw a conclusion for the work experience for hospice art therapy of students for a master’s degree in art therapy as follows: Firstly, students for a master’s degree in art therapy meet patients who’re waiting for death and feel powerlessness and uncertainty because of the environment with different mood. Secondly, students for a master’s degree in art therapy can watch change in Hospice patients’ lives, and art therapy can help the patients to accept death. Thirdly, students for a master’s degree in art therapy can feel change in their value through art therapy for hospice patients. Fourthly, students for a master’s degree in art therapy can find the meaning from hospice art therapy as a student. Therefore, this study is contributed to art therapy as follows: Firstly, it’s meaningful that students who prepare for hospice art therapy can have real and practical information. Secondly, as students for a master’s degree in art therapy face art as media in the workplace of hospice art therapy and experience expressing the art with words, it is expected to provide materials for informing specificity of art in art therapy and necessity of the hospice related theory study. Thirdly, it is helpful for students for a master’s degree in art therapy to write down their work experience. Lastly, for future researches, I suggest a various type of studies not only regarding diverse types of hospice, such as advisory, inpatient, and home care, but also studies like a study of Master candidate who conducted art therapy to hospice patient’s family and another Master candidate’s study about conducting art therapy to medical staffs in hospice unit. Also, since this study did not differentiate the roles of trainees, I suggest future studies which fix the roles of trainees as main and assist.
