여성주의적 시각으로 바라본 고전소설 교육 방안 연구

Abstract

본 연구는 고전소설 교육이 남성 중심적 시각으로 이어져 온 데 문제점을 제기하고 여성주의적 시각을 적용하여 고전소설 교육의 새로운 방향을 제시하고자 한 연구이다. 고전소설 교육에서 여성 인물이나 여성 서사에 관심을 기울이고 있는 것은 지속적으로 접근되어 온 것이며, 이를 확장하여 여성주의적 가치를 분석해 봄으로써 고전소설 교육에 어떻게 활용될 수 있을 것인지 살펴보고자 하였다. 관련하여 본 연구에서는 여성주의적 시각으로 읽어 낼 층위가 다양한 「구운몽」에 주목하였다. 이에 따라 본 연구에서는 고전소설의 하위 갈래를 여성영웅소설, 애정소설 및 가정소설, 판소리계 소설로 구분하여 이를 여성주의적 시각을 통해 바라본 연구를 살펴봄으로써 여성주의적 시각으로 고전소설에 접근할 때 핵심 요소라 할 수 있는 ‘여성의 능력 재인식’, ‘여성의 유대감 형성’, ‘여성의 정체성 찾기’라는 주요 키워드를 발견하였다. Ⅱ장에서는 여성주의적 시각으로 고전소설을 바라볼 때 고전소설의 어떠한 가치가 발견될 수 있는지 선행 연구를 살펴보았다. 이를 통해 고전소설에서 여성주의적 시각이 필요한 까닭을 정리하였다. 또한 고전소설 교육의 장에서 여성주의적 시각이 적용되는 것의 의의와 그 가능성을 찾고자 하였다. 이를 바탕으로 현행 교과서에 나타나는 여성주의적 시각의 경향성을 정리함으로써 고전소설 교육에서 여성주의적 시각이 그 자체로 목적이 되는 것은 불가능하지만, 여성주의적 시각이 다소 시도된 교과서를 확인함으로써 고전소설 교육에서 여성주의적 시각이 가능함을 확인하였다. Ⅲ장에서는 Ⅱ장에서 밝힌 여성주의적 시각의 핵심 키워드인 ‘여성의 능력 재인식’, ‘여성의 유대감 형성’, ‘여성의 정체성 찾기’의 요소를 유형화하여 「구운몽」을 살펴보았다. 여성의 능력을 재인식함으로써 그동안 이어져 온 「구운몽」의 일반적 해석을 보다 넓은 차원에서 재해석할 수 있고, 여성의 유대감 형성 과정을 살펴봄으로써 「구운몽」의 지배 담론을 여성 인물들이 붕괴하는 데 의의를 갖고 있음을 확인하였다. 또한 여성 인물의 정체성 찾기 과정을 통해 여성 인물에게 주어진 시대적 한계 속에서도 자신의 삶의 주체자로서 행위하는 모습을 발견할 수 있었다. Ⅳ장에서는 「구운몽」의 여성주의적 시각을 교육적 차원에서 적용하기 위해 필요한 교육 방향을 모색하였다. 크게 여성 인물의 삶에 주목하고, 여성 인물과 학습자 삶 사이의 연계성을 탐구하는 방향으로 나눌 수 있다. 여성 인물의 삶에 주목하기 위해서는 필수적으로 작품의 사회상을 인식하는 과정을 거쳐야 한다. 하지만 현행 교과서에서 고전소설에서 이러한 작업이 필수적으로 제시되지 않은 점이 여성주의적 시각이 부재한 것의 원인이라고 보고, 시대와 인물을 종합적으로 인식할 수 있게 하는 접근이 필요함을 제시하였다. 또한 고전소설의 의미를 학습자가 자발적으로 발견해 내기 위해서는 학습자와 고전소설 내용 간의 연계성이 탐구되어야 한다는 점을 제시하였다. 본 연구는 고전소설 교육에서 여성주의적 가치가 반영되기 위해 제공되어야 할 지점을 지적하고 있다는 점에서 의의를 갖는다. 그러나 여성주의적 가치는 고전소설 교육에서 그 자체가 목적이 되는 것이 아니라, 고전소설을 읽는 또 하나의 방법으로서 인식되어야 하고, 여성주의적 가치를 읽어 낼 역량을 기르기 위해서는 보다 구체적으로 고전소설 텍스트를 학습자에게 제공해야 할 필요가 있다. 예컨대 인물별 해석과 비평을 단순히 해 보는 데서 끝내는 것이 아니라 학습자 자신의 삶을 성찰하는 것과 직접 연결 짓도록 유도하는 것이 이에 해당할 수 있다. 본 연구의 논의를 바탕으로 고전소설 텍스트에 대한 여성주의적 시각이 다양하게 적용되기를 기대한다.;This study aims to raise problems of a male-centered perspective of education for classic novels and suggest its new direction by applying a female-centered perspective. In education for classic novels, interest in female characters or female narratives is a continual approach and through the extension of the approach, the research intends to examine the way it can be applied to education for classic novels by analyzing feminist values. In this regard, the study paid attention to <Guunmong> which has multi-layers to be read from the feminist perspective. Hence, the study divided classic novels into sub-genres including heroine, romantic, domestic and Pansori novels and reviewed related researches from the feminist perspective, deriving main key words including ‘Reconsideration of female competency', ‘Formation of female solidarity' and ‘Seeking of female identity', that is, core elements for approach to classic novels from the feminist perspective. In ChapterⅡ, the research examined precedent studies to find out values classic novels have from the feminist perspective. It also summarized the reason why feminist perspective is needed in classic novels. Besides, it tried to discover the significance and potentials of application of the feminist perspective in a field of education for classic novels. Based on above, it identified a tendency of the feminist perspective in the current textbooks and found out a few textbooks having such a perspective. Therefore, even though it is not possible to set the feminist perspective as the objective itself in education for classic novels, the research confirmed it is possible to have the feminist perspective in education for classic novels. In Chapter Ⅲ, through the categorization of key words for the feminist perspective mentioned in Chapter Ⅱ including ‘Reconsideration of female competency', ‘Formation of female solidarity' and ‘Seeking of female identity', the study conducted the analysis on <Guunmong>. The study reinterpreted <Guunmong> from a wider dimension through the new understanding on female competency and identified there is the significance in the collapse of the dominant discourse by female characters in <Guunmong> by examining the formation of female solidarity. Furthermore, it found out females' behaviors as the subjects of their lives even in the limitations of the times through seeking of identity by female characters. In Chapter Ⅳ, the study investigated an educational direction for applying the feminist perspective of <Guunmong> to education. In general, directions may be divided to attention to lives of female characters and exploration of connection between lives of female characters and those of learners. A process essential for perceiving social aspects in the work should be done to pay attention to lives of female characters. However, such a process has not been done in the current textbooks and the study regarded it as a cause for the absence of the feminist perspective, suggesting a need for an approach to comprehensive awareness of characters and the times. Moreover, it suggested a need for exploration of connection between learners and classic novels in order for learners to discover the meaning of classic novels in a spontaneous manner. This study has significance in that it indicated points to be considered in order to reflect feminist values in education for classic novels. However, feminist values have to be regarded not as the objective itself but as the new way for reading classic novels. In addition, it is needed to provide learners with classic novel texts to cultivate capabilities for reading feminist values. For instance, beyond simple character interpretation and critique, it is to induce learners to connect them with reflection on their own lives. Based on the arguments in this study above, it is expected to apply the feminist perspective to classic novel texts from various manners.
