내현적 자기애가 전위 공격성에 미치는 영향

Abstract

빠른 변화와 다양성을 특징으로 하는 현대 사회에서 개인은 자신의 가치를 인정받기 위해 자기충족 욕구를 가지게 되며, 이에 따라 자기애성 성격의 소유자들이 늘어나고 있다. 자기애성 성격 중 내현적 자기애 성향은 우울 및 사회불안, 대인관계 및 학업문제 등과 높은 관련을 보이며 외현적 자기애보다 더 역기능적이라는 연구 결과가 지속적으로 보고되고 있다. 전위 공격성은 부정적인 정서를 불러일으킨 직접적인 유발 대상이 아니라 무고한 대상에게 표출하는 공격성을 뜻하며, 부정 긴급성은 충동성의 하위 요인 중 하나로 부정적인 정서를 경험하였을 때 충동적으로 행동하는 경향성을 말한다. 내현적 자기애 수준이 높을수록 부정 정서를 많이 경험하며, 이를 전위 공격성으로 표출하는 경향을 보인다. 부정 긴급성은 부정 정서에 대한 반응으로 나타나며 다양한 역기능적 행동의 중요한 변인으로 설명되고 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 내현적 자기애와 전위 공격성, 부정 긴급성 간에 밀접한 관련이 있을 것으로 보고 성인을 대상으로 하여 내현적 자기애와 전위 공격성의 관계에서 부정 긴급성의 매개효과를 검증하고자 하였다. 연구의 목적에 따라 온라인과 오프라인을 통해 서울, 경기를 중심으로 전국의 만 18세 이상의 성인 남녀 626명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였고, 설문에 불성실하게 응답한 63명의 자료를 제외한 총 563부를 분석에 사용하였다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 상관분석을 실시하여 주요 변인들 간의 관계를 확인한 결과, 내현적 자기애와 전위 공격성, 부정 긴급성 간에 모두 유의한 정적 상관이 있었다. 즉, 내현적 자기애 수준이 높을수록 전위 공격성이 높아지며, 부정 긴급성 수준 역시 높아짐을 확인하였다. 또한 부정 긴급성이 높아질수록 전위 공격성 수준이 높아진다는 것을 확인하였다. 둘째, 연구모형을 검증한 결과, 내현적 자기애와 전위 공격성의 관계에서 부정 긴급성의 부분매개효과가 확인되었다. 즉, 내현적 자기애 성향이 높은 사람일수록 전위 공격성을 보일 직접적 가능성이 있으며, 이때 부정 긴급성 수준이 높아지면 전위 공격성을 보일 가능성이 더 높아진다는 것을 확인하였다. 본 연구를 통해 선행 연구에서 검증된 바와 같이 내현적 자기애와 전위 공격성 간에 정적 관계가 있음을 재확인 하였고, 내현적 자기애와 전위 공격성 간의 관계에서 부정 긴급성의 부분매개효과를 확인하였다. 이로써 내현적 자기애 성향을 가지고 있으며, 전위 공격성 수준이 높은 내담자에 대한 이해를 높이고, 치료적 개입과 프로그램 개발에 기초가 될 근거 자료를 제공하였다는 데 의의를 가진다. ;In the contemporary society characterized by rapid change and diversity, individuals have self-fulfillment desires in order to be recognized for their own value, which results in the increasing number of individuals with narcissistic personality. There have been consistent studies to reveal that covert narcissistic trait among narcissistic personality is highly related to depression, social anxiety, interpersonal and academic problems and it is more dysfunctional than external narcissism. Displaced aggression is defined as aggression expressed to an innocent object, not a direct triggering object that caused negative emotions. Negative urgency, which is one of the subordinate factors of impulsivity, refers to the tendency to act impulsively when experiencing negative emotions. In case of higher the level of covert narcissism, negative emotions are more likely to be experienced and expressed as displaced aggression. Negative urgency appears as a reaction to negative emotions and is explained as an important variable of various dysfunctional behaviors. Therefore, based on the assumption that there is a close relationship between covert narcissism, displaced aggression, and negative urgency, the purpose of this study is to examine the mediating effects of negative urgency on the association between covert narcissism and displaced aggression of adults. For the purpose of the study, off-line and online questionnaire surveys were conducted with 626 adult males and females aged at least 18 years in the whole country centering on Seoul and Gyeonggi regions and a total of 563 questionnaire sheets excluding data from 63 subjects who answered insincerely. The results of this study are as follows. First, correlation analyses were conducted to check the relationships between major variables and the results showed significant positive correlations among all of covert narcissism, displaced aggression, and negative urgency. That is, it was identified that the higher the level of covert narcissism, the higher the level of displaced aggression and the level of negative urgency. In addition, the higher the level of negative urgency, the higher the level of displaced aggression. Second, the study models were verified and according to the results, partial mediating effects of negative urgency were identified in the relationship between covert narcissism and displaced aggression. That is, those with higher tendencies toward covert narcissism are more likely to show displaced aggression and enhanced levels of negative urgency lead to higher possibilities to show displaced aggression. Through this study, positive relationships between covert narcissism and displaced aggression were reconfirmed as verified in previous studies. In addition, by identifying the partial mediating effects of negative urgency in the relationship between covert narcissism and displaced aggression, this study is meaningful in that it improved understanding of clients with a tendency toward covert narcissism and high levels of displaced aggression and provided evidentiary materials that will become a base of the development of therapeutic interventions and programs.
