교육실습영역의 교육봉사활동에 대한 예비음악교사들의 실태 및 인식조사

Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 예비음악교사를 대상으로 교육실습영역의 교육봉사활동 수행 실태 및 인식에 대해 전반적으로 파악하는 데 있다. 예비음악교사가 경험한 교육현황, 교육현장 그리고 음악교육봉사활동에 대한 필요성과 만족, 나아가 어려움과 개선사항에 대해 어떻게 인식하고 있는지 구체적으로 살펴봄으로써, 교육봉사활동의 교육적 가치와 필요성을 밝혀 교육 정책적 함의를 찾고 교육봉사활동 운영방안의 활성화를 위한 기초자료를 제공하고자 한다. 본 연구는 예비음악교사들의 교육봉사활동 실태와 인식을 파악하고자 양적 연구와 질적 연구를 병행한 혼합연구방법을 활용하여 분석되었다. 양적 연구는 전국에 운영되고 있는 교육대학원 12곳에 재학 중인 음악교육전공 학생 106명을 대상으로 한 설문조사를 기반으로 분석되었다. 설문지는 일반적인 특성, 교육봉사활동의 실태와 인식, 어려움과 그에 따른 개선방안으로 네 가지의 영역으로 구성하였다. 실태와 인식 내에 교육현황, 교육현장, 교육봉사활동의 필요성과 만족감을 구체적으로 파악하였다. 설문조사를 통해 수집된 자료는 연구 문제에 따라 빈도분석(frequency analysis)과 기술통계 분석(descriptive analysis)을 실시하였다. 본 연구의 결과를 요약하면 첫째, 예비음악교사들이 가장 많이 수행한 교육봉사활동의 실태에 대해 조사한 결과 초등학생을 대상으로 한‘초등돌봄교사’와 ‘음악 보조교사’로 나타났다. 둘째, 예비음악교사들이 음악교육봉사활동을 수행하는 목적에 대해 파악한 것에 있어서는 졸업요건의 충족을 위해 시작했다는 응답의 비율이 가장 높았으나, 학교 현장에 대한 사전이해를 위해, 혹은 교직에 대한 적성을 확인하기 위해서라는 응답도 뒤를 이었다. 예비음악교사들의 음악교육봉사활동에 대한 인식은 교육현황과 교육현장, 필요성 및 만족감의 4가지 주제로 나누고 살펴보았다. 셋째, 예비음악교사들은 교육봉사활동의 교육현황에서는 교육봉사 시간이 적절하다고 응답한 경우가 M=2.877으로 가장 높았고, 이어 충분한 주의사항과 사전교육이 필요하다는 의견, 교육봉사기관과 대학원의 협력이 요구된다는 의견 순으로 중요도가 나타났다. 넷째, 교육현장에 대한 인식에 있어서는 수용 및 존중이 M=3.726으로 가장 높은 인식의 정도가 보였고, 이어 관계형성, 역할과 임무에 대한 설명이 중요하다고 보고되었다. 다섯째, 교육봉사활동의 필요성에 대한 인식에 있어서는 교육봉사대상자 및 학생과의 소통이 필요하다는 의견이 M=3.736으로 가장 높은 수치를 나타내었다. 이어 교육봉사자 및 학생을 이해해야 한다는 의견이 나타나 대체로 학생과의 소통, 이해에 주안점을 두는 것으로 파악되었다. 또한 자신의 역량을 사회적으로 기부해야 한다는 점에서 교육봉사활동의 필요성을 주장하기도 하였다. 여섯째, 음악교육봉사활동의 만족감에 있어서는 교사로서의 책임감과 보람이 M=3.855, 이어 관계 내에서의 신뢰도가 3.736점 순으로 보고되었다. 책임과 신뢰 같은 관계 사이에서 나타나는 정서에 중요도를 두는 것을 알 수 있다. 일곱째, 음악교육봉사활동의 어려움에 대한 인식에 있어서는 교육대학원의 지원이 부족하다는 의견이 46.7%로 가장 높은 비중을 차지하였다. 여덟째, 교육봉사활동의 개선방안에 대한 의견에 있어서는 교육봉사활동 및 수업의 기회를 증대시켜주고, 봉사기관 및 활동의 범위를 확대해줄 것을 요구하는 의견이 다수를 차지하였다. 이를 위해서는 정부, 교원양성기관, 교육봉사기관의 다차원적인 노력이 절실히 요구된다. 본 연구는 교육실습영역의 교육봉사활동에 대한 실태와 인식, 음악교육봉사활동을 수행하면서 느낀 어려움과 개선방안을 양적 설문조사와 질적 연구를 혼합하여 활용하여 조사했다는 점에서 의의를 갖는다. 연구 결과에 나타난 예비음악교사들의 교육봉사활동 실태와 인식을 파악하고 진솔하게 보고한 인터뷰 내용을 참고하면, 교육봉사활동을 통해 예비교사들이 효과적으로 교육적 가치를 습득하고 효율적인 교육운영 방식이 활성화 될 수 있을 것이다.;The purpose of this study is to investigate overall status and perception of volunteer teaching activities in practicum by surveying pre-service music teachers. Specifically, this study examines pre-service music teachers’ experiences of the status and field of music teaching, the need for and satisfaction with volunteer music teaching activities, and their perceived difficulties and improvement measures, with intent to shed light on the educational value of and need for volunteer teaching activities, give some implications for relevant educational policies and to provide some reference data for vitalizing the operation of volunteer teaching activities. To find out the status and perception of volunteer teaching activities from the perspective of pre-service music teachers, this study uses a mixed method of combining quantitative with qualitative approaches. The quantitative approach involves the analysis of data gathered from a questionnaire survey with 106 music teaching majors attending 12 graduate schools of education across the country. The questionnaire is composed of four domains: demographics, status and perception of volunteer teaching activities, difficulties and improvement measures. The domain of the status and perception deals with the status and field of music teaching, as well as the need for and satisfaction with volunteer teaching activities. Each item of the questionnaire survey data undergoes frequency and descriptive analyses. In brief, the present findings highlight the following. First, as for the status of volunteer teaching activities, most pre-service music teachers surveyed here volunteer as ‘after-school care teachers’ and ‘music assistant teachers’ for primary school students. Second, the largest number of respondents volunteer as music teachers for the purpose of meeting the requirement for graduation, which is followed by other purposes such as understanding the field of teaching and/or assessing the aptitude for teaching as pre-service music teachers. Pre-service music teachers’ perception of volunteer music teaching activities is identified in terms of four themes, viz. the status and field of music teaching, as well as the need for and satisfaction with music teaching. Third, as part of the status of volunteer teaching activities, the highest percentage of pre-service music teachers think they work as volunteer teachers an appropriate number of hours (mean = 2.877). Also, the respondents value the needs for sufficient precautions, preliminary programs and cooperations between educational institutions and graduate programs in the order named. Fourth, as part of the respondents’ perception of the field of music teaching, acceptance and respect are rated most high (mean = 3.726), followed by relationship building and information about roles and duties. Fifth, as part of the need for volunteer teaching activities, the need for communication with volunteer service receivers and students is rated highest (mean = 3.736), followed by the understanding of volunteer teachers and students. In general, respondents value communication with and understanding of students. In addition, respondents report volunteer teaching activities are necessary for donating their skills for social causes. Sixth, as for the satisfaction with volunteer music teaching activities, respondents value the responsibility and pride as teachers (mean = 3.855), and reliability within relationships (mean = 3.736). These findings suggest pre-service music teachers lay emphasis on such affective aspects arising in relationships as responsibility and reliability. Seventh, as for the perception of difficulties in volunteer music teaching activities, the highest percentage of respondents (46.7%) point out the lack of support from graduate programs. Eighth, concerning the improvement measures for volunteer teaching activities, the majority of respondents demand that volunteer teaching activities and opportunities as well as the extent of institutions and activities should be increased. To that end, the government, teacher training institutions, and schools offering volunteer teaching opportunities should take multi-dimensional efforts. This study should be noted in that it uses a mixed method of combining a quantitative questionnaire survey with qualitative approaches to investigate the status and perception of volunteer teaching activities in practicum, difficulties of volunteer music teaching activities in the field, and improvement measures. The present findings on the status and perception of volunteer music teaching activities based on the reported interviews with pre-service music teachers will serve as some reference data for facilitating the efficient operations of volunteer teaching activities and for helping pre-service teachers to effectively acquire educational value.
