노먼 델로 조이오(Norman Dello Joio)의 교육용 피아노 작품 분석과 교수법적 제안

Abstract

초·중급의 피아노 학습에서 20세기 악곡을 경험하는 것은 매우 중요하다. 풍부한 상상력과 조성음악이 아닌 다양한 방법으로 작곡 된 20세기 악곡을 일찍 접할수록 균형 잡힌 감수성을 계발할 수 있고 확대된 음악성이 형성된다. 또한 20세기 음악의 한 주류인 신고전주의 작품의 경우 20세기 음악어법의 학습뿐만이 아니라 바로크 춤곡양식이나 푸가, 낭만시대 성격적 소품 양식을 경험할 수 있는 기회가 된다. 이에 2000년대 이후 국내에 초·중급 학습자들의 20세기 악곡에 대한 지도에 대한 연구가 꾸준히 이루어지고 있지만 그 레퍼토리는 몇몇 작곡가에 한정적이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 20세기 피아노 교육용 악곡의 레퍼토리를 늘리기 위하여 국내에 잘 알려지지 않은 노먼 델로 조이오(Norman Dello Joio)와 그의 교육용 작품들에 대해서 연구하였고 그 중「어린이를 위한 모음곡(Suite for the Young)」과「어린이를 위한 서정적 작품(Lyric Piece for the Young)」을 선정하여 분석하고 학습 포인트와 지도방안을 제시하였다. 노먼 델로 조이오는 전통적인 양식을 추구하면서도 20세기 음악 어법을 사용한 미국 신고전주의 대표적인 작곡가이다. 그의 작품은 풍부한 서정적인 선율을 사용하고 재즈의 영향을 받아 활기찰 뿐 아니라 코랄, 그레고리안 찬트 선율을 주제로 하는 등 독창적인 면을 갖고 있다. 그의 교육용 작품 중 본 논문에서 연구한 두 모음곡은 각각 초·중급 난이도에 해당하며 아이들이 20세기 음악어법을 흥미롭게 받아들일 수 있도록 하고 피아노 테크닉도 학습할 수 있게 하여 교육용으로 가치가 높다. 본 논문을 바탕으로 노먼 델로 조이오의 작품을 가르치는 교사들이 곡을 이해함과 효과적으로 지도하는데 있어서 도움이 되기를 바란다. 또한 앞으로도 교육용 20세기 악곡에 대한 연구가 활발히 진행되어 국내의 교육용 20세기 레퍼토리가 더욱 넓어지기를 기대해 본다.;An experience of music on the 20th century is highly important on a piano leaning at the beginning and intermediate levels. The earlier experience of music on the 20th century including luxuriant imagination, composed by various manners, not by composition music, promotes a balanced sensitivity. Moreover, it develops a mature musicality. Also neoclassical pieces, a mainstream of music on the 20th century, provides an opportunity to experience the baroque dance music and the props of fugue and romanticism as well as a musical expression on the 20th century. Therefore, a study has been steadily conducted, which is about an instruction of music on the 20th century for the domestic leaner at the level of the beginning and the intermediate. However, the repertory is limited to a few composers. In this study, Norman Dello Joio and his educational pieces, not well known with in the country but suitable for the piano instruction, are studied to increase the number of repertories of the educational music for instructing the piano on the 20th century. Specifically,「Suite for the young」 and 「Lyric piece for the young」are selected and analyzed to suggest the learning point and the instruction plan. Norman Dello Joio is a typical composer of neoclassicism in America, who used musical expression of the twentieth century and pursued a traditional style. His pieces are ingenious in the way that the theme is choral and Gregorian chant melody. In addition, they are vibrant for being influenced by jazz and use abundantly lyric melody. The two suites that are studied in this paper are respectively at the beginning and the intermediate levels. They help for the children to learn interestingly the musical expression on the 20th century. As the result, the suites are valuable as the educational pieces. This study is expected to be helpful for the instructors of the pieces of Norman Dello Joio to understand them and provide the effective instruction. In the future work, it is expected that the study for educational pieces on the 20th century is actively conducted. It would contribute to increase the number of repertories of domestic educational pieces on the 20th century.
