자녀의 핵심역량 강화를 위한 부모 역할에 대한 인식

Abstract

본 연구는 현재 부모들이 자녀를 양육하는 일반적인 경향을 살펴보고 핵심역량에 대한 부모의 인식 및 양육 현황을 살펴보는데 목적이 있다. 본 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위한 연구 문제는 다음과 같다. 1. 부모 양육의 일반적인 경향은 어떠한가? 2. 핵심역량에 대한 부모의 인식 및 양육 현황은 어떠한가? 본 연구의 대상은 인천에 소재한 유치원과 어린이집에 다니는 만 3~5세 유아기 자녀를 둔 어머니 176명이었다. 핵심역량에 대한 부모의 인식을 알아보기 위하여 관련 연구를 참고하여 설문지를 제작하였고, 예비연구를 실시하여 유아교육전문가의 검증을 받았다. 설문지를 제작하기 위하여 핵심역량 분야의 석학 및 단체의 선행연구를 바탕으로 본 연구에서 사용될 핵심역량을 선정하고 각 역량의 개념을 정리하는 작업을 선행하였다. 부모 양육의 일반적인 경향을 알아보기 위하여 자녀 양육 시 부모가 가장 중요하게 생각하는 점과 일상생활에서 자녀에게 제공하는 활동은 무엇인지를 묻는 내용으로 문항을 구성하였다. 핵심역량에 대한 부모의 인식 및 양육 현황을 알아보기 위하여 핵심역량을 들어본 적이 있는지, 들어본 경로는 어떠한지, 가장 중요하게 인식하는 역량은 무엇인지, 현재 자신의 양육방식이 자녀의 핵심역량을 길러주기에 어떠한지, 자녀의 핵심역량을 길러주기에 어떠한 활동이 적합하다고 생각하는지를 묻는 내용으로 문항을 구성하였다. 연구 분석을 위해 빈도와 백분율, 평균과 표준편차를 산출하였다. 본 연구를 통해 도출된 연구결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 부모가 자녀를 양육하면서 가장 중요하게 생각하는 것은 자녀의 인성과 건강으로 나타났다. 부모가 가정에서 자녀에게 일상적으로 제공하는 활동의 빈도는 정적인 놀이, 성인과 함께 놀기, 일상적인 양육의 모든 순간 순으로 높게 나타났다. 둘째, 부모 중 절반 이상이 핵심역량이라는 단어를 들어본 경험이 있었으며, 핵심역량에 따라 익혀야할 능력의 종류에 대해 들어본 부모는 전체의 1/3 정도였다. 부모가 핵심역량에 대해 들어보게 된 경로는 신문‧인터넷 기사, TV 방송‧라디오, 육아서적, 회사 및 기업 설명회 순으로 높게 나타났다. 부모들은 핵심역량의 개념에 대해 긍정적으로 인식하고 있었으며, 각 역량에 대해 중요하게 인식하는 경향이 있었다. 부모가 중요하게 생각하는 핵심역량의 우선순위는 인성 및 윤리적 태도, 자기 조절 능력, 끈기 있게 목표를 위해 노력하는 능력 순으로 나타났다. 부모들은 현재 자신의 양육방식이 자녀의 핵심역량을 길러주기에 긍정적이라고 인식하고 있었으며, 핵심역량 중 인성 및 윤리적인 태도, 의사소통 능력, 자기 조절 능력이 현재 부모의 양육방식으로 자녀의 역량을 길러주기에 적합하다고 인식하는 것으로 나타났다. 부모가 자녀의 핵심역량을 길러주기에 적합하다고 인식하는 활동은 또래와 함께 놀기, 일상적인 양육의 모든 순간, 문화생활, 자연 체험하기 순으로 높게 나타났으며, 자녀의 인지적 능력과 관련된 역량은 비교적 사교육 활동을 통해 길러주고자 하는 것으로 나타났다. 이와 같은 연구결과를 바탕으로 다음과 같은 시사점을 얻을 수 있다. 부모들이 핵심역량을 중요하게 인식하고 자신의 양육방식이 자녀의 핵심역량을 길러주기에 긍정적이라고 인식하고 있었지만, 다른 역량과는 달리 자녀의 인지적 역량을 길러주기 위해서는 사교육 활동을 제공하려는 경향이 있었다. 따라서 부모에게 핵심역량을 안내하고 유아기 발달과업에서 부모가 가진 고유한 역할과 중요성을 인식하도록 도울 필요가 있다. 자녀의 연령에 따라 부모가 스스로 자녀의 인지적 역량을 길러줄 수 있는 활동을 제공하고 이를 활용할 수 있도록 부모교육 및 지원 방안이 마련되어야할 것이다.; The Purpose of the study is to look over how parents these days raise their child generally, perspectives of parents towards core competencies and their nurturing status quo. The following is the specific topics for the research. 1. What are the general trend of parenting? 2. What are the perspectives and nurturing status quo of parents on core competencies? The total of 176 mothers with 3 to 5 year-old children, who goes to Daycare center and kindergarten in Incheon, participated in this study. In order to figure out parents’ perceptions on core competencies, surveys were conducted based on relevant research references followed by preliminary research and have been verified by the child-education specialist. Based on preceding research from masters and groups on core competencies, filtering and conceptualization on core competencies have been made prior to conducting the survey. In order to find out about the general trend of parenting, questions have been formed to ask parents their opinion on what the keys are in raising a child and what kind of specific activities they provide for their child in general. Furthermore, to learn about parents’ perspectives and their parenting status quo on core competencies, survey consists of following questions asking parents: rather they have heard of the core competencies before, if so where they have heard of core competencies, the most important core competencies they consider, and what types of activities they consider it fit in improving child’s core competencies. Frequencies, percentages, average and standard deviations are being calculated for analyzing research. Following are the summarization of research results drawn from this study. First, child’s personality and health was what parents consider the most important factors on raising a child. The frequency of activities that parents provide to their child at home was in the following order: non-physical activities, playing with the adults and every generally nurturing moments. Second, more than half of the parents have heard of the word ‘core competencies’ and 1/3 of the parents heard about the specific skills and abilities required for each core competencies. Newspaper and internet articles were where parents heard the most about the core competencies followed by Television, radio broadcast, job fair and corporate presentation. Parents seems to have positive views on core competencies, and perceive importance of each competencies. Study showed parents consider personality and ethical behavior as the prime core-competencies followed by self-control capability and perseveringly making efforts to achieve goals. Parents consider their current parenting skills as positive in order to raise their child’s core competencies. They consider their own parenting skills as suitable to raise individual factors of core competencies such as personality, ethical behavior, communication skills and self-control ability. The activities that parents consider fit in order to raise child’s core competencies are in the following order: playing with friends, every generally parenting moments, cultural life and experience nature. In addition, parents preferred private lessons to improve child’s cognitive abilities. Based on research results, there are few points, as following, that can be achieved. Parents realize the importance of core competencies and they are confident of their parenting skills in order to improve their child’s core competencies. However, they tend to provide private lessons to improve their child’s cognitive abilities. Therefore, the need of parental education and supports to inform parents about core competence, help parents acknowledge the inherent role and importance in early childhood developmental tasks, support parents to raise their child’s cognitive abilities by themselves according to their child’s age are vital.
