고등학생의 사회적 자기효능감이 민주 시민 의식에 미치는 영향

Abstract

민주 시민 의식이란 민주주의의 토대이며 이를 갖춘 민주 시민의 자질을 함양하는 것이 사회과 교육의 목표이다. 이에 본 연구는 타인과의 사회적 상호작용에서 형성되는 사회적 상황의 수행에 대한 기대감을 의미하는 사회적 자기효능감과 민주 시민 의식의 상관관계를 연구하고자 하였으며 이를 토대로 향후 민주 시민 교육에 대한 시사점을 얻고자 하였다. 특히 현대사회에서 약화된 공동체 의식과 입시위주 교육으로 자기중심성이 팽배해져 민주 시민 역량이 요구되는 고등학생들에게 사회적 자기효능감이 민주 시민 의식을 높일 것이라는 가설을 가지고 연구를 시작하였다. 이러한 목적을 위해 다음과 같은 연구 문제를 설정하였다. 1. 고등학생의 사회적 자기 효능감과 민주 시민 의식 간에는 상관관계가 존재하는가? 2. 고등학생의 민주 시민 의식을 향상시키는 사회적 자기효능감의 요인들은 무엇인가? 연구 방법은 설문조사방법을 실시하였으며 경기도 3곳에 재학 중인 인문계 고등학교 남·여학생으로 표본을 구성하였고 총 506명의 자료가 분석에 사용되었다. 통계처리는 SPSS WIN 18.0을 이용하여 빈도분석, 독립표본 t-test, 일원배치 분산분석, 다중회귀분석을 실시하였다. 본 연구의 분석 결과와 논의 사항은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 고등학생의 사회적 자기효능감에 따른 민주 시민 의식의 차이를 살펴보면 사회적 자기효능감의 하위영역(관계형성, 의견표현, 권리주장, 도움요청)이 높은 집단이 민주주의 기능, 가치·태도, 참여에서도 뚜렷하게 높게 나타났다. 둘째, 사회적 자기효능감이 민주 시민 의식에 미치는 영향은 민주주의 기능에 가장 많은 영향을 주었고 민주주의 참여, 민주주의 가치·태도 순으로 유의미한 영향을 주었다. 또한 사회적 자기효능감의 하위영역 4가지 중 도움요청을 제외한 관계형성, 의견표현, 권리주장은 모두 민주 시민 의식에 유의미한 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 연구 결과를 통해 사회적 자기효능감의 향상이 자신의 의견을 표현하고 권리를 주장할 줄 알며 공동체 구성원으로서 합리적인 의사결정과 이를 실천하기 위한 참여 태도를 갖추게 되어 민주 시민 의식을 함양하는데 기여한다는 것을 확인할 수 있다. 본 연구는 고등학생의 민주 시민 의식에 미치는 영향으로 학생들의 개인적인 성향이나 정의적인 측면에 주목하여 그 효과를 측정하고자 했고, 주로 발달 심리학에서 다루어진 사회적 자기효능감이 이번 연구를 통해 사회과 교육에서도 유의미함을 밝혔다는 점에서 연구의 의의가 있다. 이상의 연구 결과를 토대로 민주 시민 의식을 함양하기 위하여 사회적 자기효능감과 같은 정의적 태도 중심의 사회과 교육 활성화와 교육과정의 보완과 함께, 고등학생의 사회적 자기효능감이 민주 시민 의식뿐만 아니라 대인관계나 사회성 향상으로 학교생활에도 도움을 줄 수 있기 때문에 가정이나 학교에서 사회적 자기효능감이 낮은 학생들에 대한 지속적인 관심, 상담, 교육을 제안한다.;Democratic civic consciousness is the foundation of democracy. Fostering the qualification of democratic citizen with it is the objective of the education in social studies. This paper attempts to investigate the correlations between social self-efficacy which means the expectation on performing the social situations formed in the social interactions with others and democratic civic consciousness. Based on it, this paper also attempts to present the implications for future civic education. The research starts with the hypotheses that social self-efficacy will increase democratic civic consciousness for the high school students who are required to have democratic citizenship competence as their self-centeredness prevails due to the weakened sense of community and the educational system that focuses only on college entrance in these days. The following research questions were settled for this purpose. 1. Do the correlations exist between social self-efficacy and democratic civic consciousness of high school students? 2. What is the factors of social self-efficacy to enhance democratic civic consciousness of high school students? Questionnaire was conducted as research method on the research population of male and female students attending in three general high schools located in Gyeong-gi do. The data from total 506 was utilized for analysis. SPSS WIN 18.0 was utilized for statistics operation, and frequency analysis, independent sample t-test, variance analysis of one-way factorial design, and multiple regression analysis was performed. The analysis results and discussions of this research are as follows. Firstly, as exploring the difference of democratic civic consciousness according to social self-efficacy of high school students, the group with high points in the subsections of social self-efficacy (relationship formation, opinion expression, right protection, help request) clearly showed high significance in democratic function, value and attitude, participation. Secondly, the influences of social self-efficacy on democratic civic consciousness were the largest in democratic function. It gave significance impacts on democratic participant, democratic value/attitude in order. In addition, relationship formation, opinion expression, right protection among all of the subsectors of social self-efficacy was found to give significant impacts on democratic civic consciousness excepting for help request. The results of the research confirmed that the improvement of social self-efficacy contribute to fostering democratic civic consciousness by enable the students to express their opinions and advocate their rights and have rationale decision-making as the members of community and have the participatory attitude to realize it. This study attempts to measure the effects of democratic civic consciousness by focusing the personal characteristics or affective aspects of high school students. This study has its implication of identifying that social self-efficacy treated in developmental psychology is significant. Based on the results of the study above, this study suggests the activation of social studies centered on affective attitude such as social self-efficacy to foster democratic civic consciousness. It also suggests the continuous attention, counselling, education for the students with low social efficacy in home or school because the social self-efficacy of high school students can help their school lives by improving democratic civic consciousness as well as their personal relations or sociality.
