초보 학습자를 위한 기초 가야금 교재 개발 연구

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to develop and provide the basic Gayaguem materials for novice learners. After giving some lessons to students of elementary schools and continuing education institutions, I have learned that most of them have many difficulties in learning Gayaguem at the primary level. I have found that we especially lack 'etudes' for non-majors to learn how to play the 12-string Gayaguem, and its techniques, at the beginner level, ranging from basic to advanced steps. I have also experienced many difficulties in motivating learners, or even interesting them, when using for intensive study. In this regard, I thought systematic, efficient and specialized materials are needed for novice learners. Looking at previous studies, and analyzing the existing 12-string Gayaguem instructional books, I confirmed that there is a significant lack of 12-string Gayaguem etudes for basic playing arts and techniques. I realized there is a need to develop a specialized basic textbook that was more systematic and effective for beginners. As a base structure, I carefully examined the theoretical background of Bayer’s leading introductory piano textbook. I then compared Sekwang New Bayer critically with current 12-string Gayaguem textbooks, as a way of going beyond the shortcomings of existing Gayaguem materials. Eventually I proposed‘A Basic Gayaguem Textbook for Beginners,' composed of 3 main sections. The Introduction describes the theoretical aspects of this instrument, including its history, its various models, its structure (along with the names of each part and section), and its playing posture. Finally, I included a scale tuning chart, and some illustrations chosen to appeal to learners. The Second Section begins with the basic playing arts and practice etudes, The right- and left- hand arts, and their related etudes, are then introduced, before finally both hand arts and related etudes are included. A total of 62 etudes are contained in this section. In the Third Section, an Appendix deals with methods of connecting Gayaguem strings and tying Gayaguem boodles. 'A Basic Gayaguem Textbook for Beginners' has 50 pages: the Introduction accounts for 5 pages (10%); the Second Section, 43 pages (86%); the Third Section (Appendix) 2 pages (4%). The 62 etudes, for both right and left hand, include folk songs, court music and various other genres. Unlike existent textbooks, difficult folk songs and "Sanjo" are ruled out. Instead, I have chosen etudes to which learners are mostly accustomed, to facilitate easy scale practice using only the basic steps. To increase the reliability of presented materials, and to draw a more systematic conclusion, I have conducted interviews with professional teachers, and asked them to evaluate and verify my book. I distributed questionnaires to several professional instructors, and, although unsurprisingly some further supplementation was suggested, I garnered mostly very positive responses. Through this study, which aims to develop a textbook that can meet the needs of beginners, I hope to improve the effectiveness of Gayaguem teaching and to increase the preference of learners (or of potential learners) for Gayaguem. I do not mean to imply, however, that the textbook I have proposed and presented represents the end of my study. I feel that we should continue to revise and supplement it, and in so doing reflect the opinions of specialized teachers as part of further research into a more efficient use of the textbook, Indeed, through a gradual and systematic study of this book for beginners, I believe the teaching content and methods could be diversified and extended through a wide range of research. I sincerely hope that my study will be a positive stimulus for the development of other teaching materials for all beginner level learners.;본 연구의 목적은 초보 학습자를 위한 기초 가야금 교재를 개발하고 제시하는 것이다. 본인이 초등학교 학생들과 평생교육 학습자들을 대상으로 특기적성 가야금 수업을 해본 결과 많은 학습자들이 초보 단계에서 가야금을 학습하는데 어려움을 겪고 있었다. 특히 초보 단계에서 가야금 12줄과 주법을 동시에 익혀야 하는 문제와 함께 기초단계부터 심화단계에 이르기까지 비전공자를 대상으로 하는 교양 연습곡들이 많이 부족함을 발견하였다. 실제로 기존 교재를 활용하여 수업을 진행했을 때 학습자들에게 흥미를 주고 동기를 유발하여 가르치는데 많은 어려움을 겪었다. 이와 관련하여 본인은 초보 학습자들을 위한 체계적이고, 효율적이며, 전문화된 기초 가야금 교재가 필요하다는 생각을 하게 되었다. 이러한 연구의 필요성에 따라 먼저 선행연구를 살펴보았고, 현행 12현 가야금 교본을 분석하여 기초 주법에 대한 연습곡이 현저히 부족함을 발견하였다. 따라서 가야금 기초 교재의 미흡한 점들에 대해 대안책을 마련하고자 피아노의 대표적 입문교재인 바이엘을 선택하였다. 먼저 바이엘에 관한 이론적 배경을 고찰하였고, 이를 바탕으로『세광 뉴 바이엘』피아노 교본을 분석하여 현행 12현 가야금 교본의 문제점을 발견하였다. 이에 본인은 현행 12현 가야금 교재의 단점을 보완하고자 바이엘 교재의 장점을 참고하여 ‘초보 학습자를 위한 기초 가야금 교재’를 제시하였다. 교재의 내용은 크게 세 장으로 다음과 같이 구성하였다. 첫째, 도입 부분은 이론과정으로 가야금의 역사와 가야금의 종류, 구조와 명칭, 가야금 연주 자세, 음계 조율표로 구성하였고, 학습자의 흥미 유발을 위해 그림을 삽입하였다. 둘째, 기초 주법 및 연습곡 부분에서는 오른손 주법과 그에 대한 연습곡, 왼손 주법과 그에 대한 연습곡, 또한 이 두 가지 주법을 함께 연습하는 양손 주법 연습곡으로 제시하였다. 연습곡으로는 총 62곡이 수록되었다. 셋째, 부록 부분은 가야금 줄 잇는 법과 가야금 부들 매는법으로 구성하였다. ‘초보 학습자를 위한 기초 가야금 교재’를 제시한 결과 제시된 기초 교재는 전체 50쪽으로 구성되었다. 구체적인 내용은 도입부분이 5쪽으로 전체의 10%를 차지하였고, 기초 주법과 그에 대한 연습곡들이 총 43쪽, 86%를 차지하였으며, 부록은 2쪽으로 4%를 차지하였다. 연습곡은 오른손 연습곡과 왼손 연습곡, 민요, 정악 등 다양한 장르의 연습곡 62곡을 수록하였다. 기존의 교재와 달리 어려운 민요와 산조는 수록하지 않았으며, 기초 단계만 학습할 수 있도록 기초 주법에서의 스케일 및 학습자들에게 익숙한 곡들을 선정하여 연습곡으로 구성하였다. 본인은 제시된 교재의 신뢰도를 높은 결론 도출을 위하여 전문 교사들에게 지면 인터뷰(질문지)를 실시하였고, 인터뷰를 통해 본 교재에 대한 평가 및 검증을 하였다. 그 결과 일부 보완이 필요한 부분도 있었으나 전반적으로 만족도 높은 긍정적인 결과를 얻을 수 있었다. 앞으로 본인이 제시한 교재를 토대로 하여 전문 교사들의 의견을 반영하고, 실제 국악 교육 현장에서의 경험을 통해 수정, 보완하려는 지속적인 노력이 필요하다. 더불어 향후 초보 학습자들을 위한 기초 가야금 교재가 더 단계적이고 체계적으로 연구되어야 한다. 이를 통해 그 교재의 교육내용과 방법이 더욱 다양하고 폭넓게 연구되길 바란다. 본 연구를 통해 초보 학습자들의 눈높이에 맞춘 교재 개발에 긍정적인 영향을 미치기를 바란다. 나아가 효과적인 가야금 교육 과정을 수립하며, 가야금에 대한 선호도를 높일 수 있기를 기대해본다.
