실험수업에서 과학교사가 겪는 어려움 및 대처방안에 대한 질적 연구

Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 중등과학교사들이 실험수업에서 겪는 어려움과 그에 대한 대처방안을 요인별로 알아보고자 하였다. 본 연구는 서울과 경기 지역에 근무하는 중․ 고등학교 교사 7명을 대상으로 면담이 진행되었다. 개별 면담은 작성된 면담질문지를 토대로 녹취록을 분석한 뒤 실시하였다. 그리고 추가정보가 필요한 경우 자료 수집은 해당교사에게 2~3회 정도 e-mail을 통해 이루어졌다. 이를 바탕으로 얻어진 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 실험수업에 대한 어려움과 대처방안은 크게 7가지 측면의 카테고리로 나누었다. 우선, 안전문제는 화재사고, 외상에 따른 어려움과 대처방안에 대해 제시하였고, 교과서 문제는 명확하지 않은 실험결과에 따른 어려움 및 대처방안, 실험 과정이 명확히 표시되어 있지 않을 때의 어려움에 대해 제시하였다. 시간부족에서는 실험내용의 설명과 정리에 따른 시간부족에서의 어려움과 대처방안, 실험을 준비하는데 부족한 시간에 따른 어려움과 대처방안에 대해 언급하였다. 또한 실험 재료를 준비하는 어려움도 제시하였고, 학생들의 참여 태도에 따른 어려움에는 수업에 대한 학생들의 집중력, 보고서 작성과정에서 무임승차 하는 학생, 실험수업에서 학생들의 비참여적인 태도가 있다. 학생들의 참여 태도에서 어려움을 해결하기 위한 대처방안으로는 실험운영에서의 전략, 실험에 대한 동기부여로 나누어 설명하였다. 실험에 대한 학생들의 이해에서는 학생들의 이해에 따른 어려움과 그에 대한 대처방안을 나타내었고 마지막으로 수업에 대한 교사의 성찰에 대해 제시하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 상황에 따른 교사들의 어려움과 대처방안이 어떠한 것이 있는지 파악하는데 도움이 될 것으로 기대된다. 또한 향후 교사들이 자신의 대처방안을 발전시키는데도 도움이 될 것으로 기대된다.;This study aims at investigating the purpose of scientific experiment teachings conducted by middle school teachers, and classifying the difficulties faced during the experiments in classrooms and ways to cope with them according to situations. This study was conducted by interviewing seven female teachers working in middle and high schools in Seoul and Gyeonggi area. The teachers were individually interviewed based on prior questionnaire responses, and then their interview answers were transcribed and analyzed. In cases, additional questionnaires were sent through E-mail to some teachers for further investigation, and we analyzed the fetched answers, comparing them with the transcripts. The results of this study are as follows: The study categorized the difficulties and countermeasures into seven categories. Firstly, as for safety concerns, this study describes the risk of fire accident, difficulty resulting from traumas and countermeasures for them; for problems of the textbooks, this study describes the difficulty stemming from ambiguous experiment results and coping with the situation, and the trouble when the experiment procedures are not clearly presented in the textbook. On the other hand, as for lack of time, this study mentions the difficulties and countermeasures that arise when the time is not enough for explaining and summarizing the experiments, and for preparing materials. Also mentioned are difficulties in financial methods, approval process and inability to prepare as the textbook says in regards of preparing for the experiments. As for the difficulties in regards of the students’ participatory attitude, the teachers point out the distracted students, the free-riders when writing a report and non-participatory attitude among students in experiments in classroom. Measures to cope with the difficulties from the lack of students’ participatory attitude are separately explained as the strategy for operating the experiments and providing motivation about the experiments. In regards of raising students understanding about the experiment, the study presents the difficulties from students’ lack of understanding and a countermeasure for it. Lastly, the study discuss the teachers’ reflection on the class. The results of this study are expected to help understanding difficulties and countermeasures of the teachers according to situations. Also, it will help developing teachers’ own measures to cope with the problems in the future.
