통합 과학 교육 소재로서 ‘온돌’ 프로그램 개발 및 적용

Abstract

본 연구는 통합과 전통 과학을 활용하여 온돌 교육 프로그램을 개발하고 적용함으로서 과학 교육에서 활용될 수 있는 방향을 찾는데 목적이 있다. 전통 과학과 통합의 소재로서 온돌은 약 2300년의 역사를 지닌 한국의 전통 난방 방식으로 한국 문화 전반을 이해하는 중요한 문화적 코드가 된다. 특히 온돌의 원리나 온돌의 재료를 통해 조상들의 지혜와 과학적인 우수성을 알 수 있으며 온돌이 가지는 역사적, 사회-문화적, 기술적 가치는 통합 교육으로서 최적의 주제이기도 하다. 온돌 교육 프로그램을 개발하기에 앞서 온돌 관련 논문 19편과 교양 서적 11권을 참고 하였으며 ‘온돌’주제를 역사, 과학, 문화, 예술, 기술 영역으로 구분하여 총 5개 수업, 10차시로 구성하였다. 온돌 교육 프로그램은 2012년 7월 ~ 2012년 8월에 걸쳐서 서울 시내에 과학 중점 고등학교 1학년생들 중 여학생 8명에게 적용하였다. 프로그램 적용 결과 도출을 위해 수업 전-후 조사지, 학생들의 활동지, 수업 녹화 자료 및 학생 면담 자료를 수집하여 분석하였다. 연구자가 분석한 내용에 대해서는 과학 교육 전문가 1인의 검토와 협의 과정을 거쳤다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 총 5개 수업, 10차시로 온돌 교육 프로그램을 개발하였다. 5가지 주제는 ‘온돌의 역사와 문화’, ‘온돌 이야기’, ‘온돌의 원리’, ‘온돌 탐방’, ‘온돌 개념도 만들기’이다. 수업 효과의 향상을 위해서 수업 방식을 강의, 토론, 영상, 활동, 글쓰기 등 다양하게 구성을 하였으며 교사는 강의 수업에서 사진과 영상을 제시하여 학생들에게 온돌의 바른 이해를 돋도록 노력해야 하며 온돌 주제가 각각의 수업에 상호 연계될 수 있도록 하였다. 둘째, 온돌 교육 프로그램을 통하여 온돌에 대한 학생들의 과학 지식이 향상되었다. 수업 전 학생들은 온돌의 일상적 지식을 설명하였고 대류의 원리에 대해서는 간단히 설명하였다. 온돌에 대해 수업 후 학생들은 암석과 공통 광물, 열전달 방법, 베르누이 원리 등 대한 과학적 측면의 다양한 이해를 보였다. 셋째, 온돌 교육 프로그램을 통하여 온돌에 대한 통합적 사고가 가능하였다. 수업 전 학생들은 온돌에 대해 기술과 생활 영역을 중심으로 이해하지만 수업 후 학생들은 온돌의 역사, 과학, 기술, 생활, 문화, 의학, 음식, 예술 등의 영역에 대한 통합적 이해를 보였다. 다양한 영역들 중에서 과학에 대한 이해가 가장 잘 나타났으며 그 다음은 역사, 문화, 예술 영역 순서로 이해를 보였다. 넷째, 온돌 교육 프로그램을 통하여 ‘온돌’에 대한 학생들의 자부심이 향상되었다. 학생들은 온돌의 예술적 측면과 과학적 원리에 대한 자부심을 나타냈으며 역사와 사회적 측면의 자부심 순으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 온돌 교육 프로그램은 온돌의 관심과 흥미, 사회적 기능 등 정의적 측면에도 영향을 주었다. 본 연구 결과를 통해 온돌 교육 프로그램이 의미가 있음을 확인하였고 온돌이 과학 교육 과정에 활용될 가능성을 보여주었다. 따라서 온돌 교육 프로그램을 교육 현장에 적용되기 위해 연계 방향을 모색해야 할 것이다. 나아가 통합과 전통 과학을 활용한 다양한 프로그램이 개발되고 적용되기를 기대한다.;The purpose of this study was to look for the way of use in science education by developing and applying Ondol education program using integration and traditional science. As the subject of traditional science and integration, Korea’s traditional heating system with 2,300 years of history, Ondol, is very important cultural code to understand Korean culture in general. Especially we can know about ancestor’s wisdom and scientific superiority through the principle and material of Ondol. Historical, social and cultural, technical value which Ondol has, is the best subject as an integrated education. Before development of Ondol education program, I referred to 19 thesis on Ondol and 11 educational books. I classified Ondol subject into area for history, science, culture, art and technique. And Ondol education program was composed of total 5 class, 10 hours. The program was applied to eight 10th grade girls in science-core schools in Seoul in 2012, 7~8. For the It analyzed before class and later investigation, activity paper, class observation, for results of the program. It discussed analysis content with expert of science education. The results are as follows. First, as total 5 class, 10 hours have developed. Themes of five are "Historical and cultural aspects of Ondol", "Ondol story", "Scientific principles of Ondol", "Concept mapping of Ondol", and “Ondol field trip". There are various learning activities such as lecture, debate, experiment, and field trip, to improve Ondol program. By presenting the photo and video in the lector, Teacher could make an effort to understand Ondol correctly, and Ondol subject could be correlated to each class. Second, students’ scientific knowledge about ondol has been improved through this program. Before students took the class about ondol, they explained ordinary knowledge about it and did simply (a little bit) about principle of convection current. After the class, they showed various understandings on scientific aspect about rocks, Common minerals, Method of heat transfer, Bernoulli's principle etc. Third, through Ondol education program, it’s possible to think integrated ability about Ondol. Before the class, students understood focusing on technique and living territory about Ondol. But after the class, they understood better about the area of history, science, technique, living culture, medicine, food, art etc. Among of multiple areas, It showed that they understood science the best, and territory of history, culture, art are the next. Fourth, students’ pride about Ondol has been dramatically increased through this program. Students showed the pride on artistic aspect and scientific principle of Ondol, following these were pride on historical and social aspect. Lastly, students’ interest about Ondol and social function have been improved through this program. This study shows that Ondol education program is worth enough and Ondol has the possibility to be adopted on science education course. Therefore we need to look for the way of connection to adopt Ondol education program to education field. Furthermore, I expect that various programs which utilize integration and traditional science are developed and adopted on science education.
