문화 간 감수성 발달을 위한 아동문학중심 다문화교육과정 설계 및 적용

Abstract

The overall purpose of the study is to design a multicultural education curriculum based on children's literature for the development of intercultural sensitivity. Intercultural sensitivity is to put effort to adapt one's behavior to one's culture in the case of surrounding with other culture. In this study process, if multicultural education curriculum based on children's literature is designed and applied, how to affect to developing intercultural sensitivity. The Primary research questions are as follows: 1. How to design Multicultural education curriculum based on the Children's literature for development of intercultural sensitivity? 2. How to apply Multicultural education curriculum based on the Children's literature for development of intercultural sensitivity? 3. Is there any effective for development of intercultural sensitivity on Multicultural education curriculum based on the Children's literature? Requirement analysis of students and society and criticism analysis of previous education curriculum was done in order to design Multicultural education curriculum based on the Children's literature. Analyzed social requirement affected to select learning topic of Multicultural education curriculum based on the Children's literature. And Analyzed student's requirement affected to select contents and to make a decision organization and education learning model. It provides the process to achieve six goals of multicultural instruction and improve intercultural sensitivity. The newly designed multicultural education suggested by Bennett and Banks was composed of twenty-five, and each unit is divided from two to four sub-units. The total sub-units totaled to twenty-one. In order to examine the effectiveness of the curriculum, students were tested by a pre-study questionnaire and a post-study questionnaire. A pre-study questionnaire was administered to the students before the beginning of the multicultural program. After they finished the program, students received a post-study questionnaire in order to examine the change in students' intercultural sensitivity. During the research, in order to understand the students' needs and to evaluate their improvement on intercultural sensitivity, two different types of tools were used. Prior to designing multicultural curriculum and programs, which includes questions about cultural backgrounds, the concept of multiculturalism and a student's preferred learning method, was designed and applied to the students. The result was used to (a)plan the appropriate treatment based on their concepts, attitudes, and previous cultural experiences, and (b)design programs related to learning styles. Second, in both the pre-questionnaire and the post-questionnaire, students were examined by Intercultural Sensitivity Questionnaire (ICSSQ) designed by Kristiina Holm (2009) and Intercultural Sensitivity(IS) designed by Christine(2009). SPSS 18.0 was used to access the relativity of scale and offer the information for exclusion. Multicultural Curriculum and Program, based on the Banks and Benntt models, provided the opportunity for students to attain knoledge, attitudes, and behaviors related to diversity and social justice. The study demonstrated that exposure to this multicultural education program resulted in a significant improvement in their intercultural sensitivity, which is the most significant variable for fostering multicultural competence.;본 연구는 문화 간 감수성 발달을 위한 아동문학중심 다문화교육과정을 설계하는 것을 목적으로 하고 있다. 문화 간 감수성이란 나를 둘러싸고 있는 문화와는 다른 문화에 대하여 관심을 갖고 문화 간 차이에 대하여 민감하게 반응하며 다른 문화에 대한 이해와 존중을 기반으로 자신이 어떠한 문화적인 상황에 처했을 때에도 그 문화에 맞게 자신의 행동을 수정하고자 노력하는 것이다. 이러한 문화 간 감수성 발달을 위하여 아동문학중심 다문화교육과정을 설계하고 적용하여, 적용된 아동문학중심 다문화교육과정이 문화 간 감수성 발달에 어떠한 영향을 주는지를 알아보기 위한 것이다. 이러한 연구 목적에 따른 연구 문제는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 문화 간 감수성 발달을 위한 아동문학중심 다문화교육과정을 어떻게 설계 하였는가? 둘째, 문화 간 감수성 발달을 위한 아동문학중심 다문화교육과정을 어떻게 적용 하였는가? 셋째, 아동문학중심 다문화교육과정이 학생들의 문화 간 감수성 발달에 효과가 있는가? 아동문학중심 다문화교육과정 설계를 위하여 학생과 사회의 요구 분석 및 기존교육과정의 비판적 분석이 이루어졌다. 분석된 사회의 요구는 아동문학중심 다문화교육과정의 학습주제를 선정하는데 반영하였으며, 분석된 학생의 요구는 내용의 선정과 조직 및 교수-학습 모형 결정에 반영되었다. 분석된 사회의 요구에서 필요한 다문화관련 주제들은 정체성, 역사적 관점, 차별과 편견 타파, 협력, 의사소통, 감정이입, 협력, 인권 등을 포함하고 있으며, 이런 주제들은 학생들의 발달수준 및 형식과 내용을 고려한 적절한 아동문학 선정을 통한 내용선정으로 이루어질 수 있었다. 또, 학생들의 요구 분석을 통해, 책읽기, 동영상 시청, 사진보기 등의 방법을 택한 경우가 많아 교육방법 선택 시 학생들의 요구를 반영하였으며 아동문학작품의 효율적인 적용 및 문화 간 감수성 발달의 긍정적인 효과를 위해 새롭게 설계된 아동문학을 활용한 다문화수업모형을 적용하였다. 문화 간 감수성 발달의 효과성을 검증하기 위하여 Bennett(1993)의 문화 간 감수성 발달모델(Development Model of Intercultural Sensitivity: DMIS)의 질적 연구결과를 근거로 Holm(2009)이 개발한 측정도구와 Christa & Kent(2001)에 의해 개발된 측정도구를 혼합하여 평가도구로 사용하였다. 이렇게 설계된 아동문학중심 다문화교육과정을 중랑구에 위치한 S초등학교의 4학년 한 학급을 대상으로 6주간 20차시 수업을 실시하였다. 설계된 교육과정의 효과성을 입증하고자 연구 집단을 대상으로 사전·사후 검사를 실시하였다. 자료의 처리 및 분석을 위하여 SPSS win 18 프로그램을 사용하여 비모수 통계 기법인 윌콕슨 부호 순위 검정을 실시하였고 이를 보완하기 위해 학생 개개인의 반응일지의 질적 분석을 실시하여 다음과 같은 결론을 도출하였다. 첫째, 설계된 아동문학중심 다문화교육과정은 문화 간 감수성의 발달의 여섯 단계전체에 유의한 영향을 미친다는 것을 알 수 있다. 윌콕슨 부호 순위 검정을 통해 ‘부정’, ‘방어’, ‘최소화’, ‘수용’, ‘적응’, ‘통합’의 여섯 단계 전부에서 유의한 차이를 보이므로 아동문학중심 다문화교육과정은 문화 간 감수성 발달 단계의 여섯 단계 모두에 영향을 미친다는 것을 알 수 있다. 둘째, 설계된 아동문학중심 다문화교육과정은 윌콕슨 부호 순위 검정을 통해 특히 ‘부정’ 과 ‘방어’ 단계에서 더 유의한 효과가 있다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 이는 나머지 단계의 효과성을 높이기 위한 아동문학중심 다문화교육과정의 필요성이 제기되어지며, 이는 문화 간 감수성 발달 단계별로 아동문학중심 다문화교육과정이 설계되어질 수 있다는 가능성을 제기하고 있다. 셋째, 학생 개개인의 문화 간 감수성 발달 단계의 질적 분석을 통해 학생 개개인의 문화 간 감수성 발달 단계상의 인지·정의·행동적인 측면을 알 수 있었다. 이는 학생에게 부족한 단계를 보완할 수 있는 학생 개개인에게 적합한 맞춤형 아동문학중심 다문화교육과정을 설계해 적용할 수 있다. 학생들의 문화 간 감수성 발달 단계의 좀 더 큰 변화를 위해서는 정규 교육과정에 포함되어 학년의 연계성을 가진 교육을 받을 수 있는 지속적인 실천, 체계적인 아동문학 선정 및 단계별 다문화교육과정 설계 및 적용, 학생 개개인에 맞는 맞춤식 교육과정 설계 및 적용에 대한 후속 연구가 필요할 것이다.
