Abstract

This study is concentrated on the twelve-tone technique of Schonberg, based on atonality. It is the method of composition with twelve-tones which are related only with one another, which has revolutionized the conventional functional harmony composition and opend the way to the 20th century music In this thesis the piano work, The suite fur Klavier OP . 25 (1924) of Schonberg, the first composition to be constructed entirely from a twelve-tone row, has been analized, examining the historical back-ground of Schonberg's music; the musical trends and musicians from Wagner, the neo-romantist, to the Schonberg. Secondly, the writer considered the course of development of twelve-tone music through tonal and atonal musics and described the original form and three variety forms with example. The life and musical characteristics of Schonberg is devided into four stage as follows; First stage : 1899-1908...neo-romantic, Second stage : 1908-1915...Tonality Cease, Third stage : 1916-1932...Completion of twelve-tone technique, Forth stage : 1933-1951 ...Decline of Schonberg with rising Nazism. The analysis of OP .25 The Suite fur Klavier could be concluded as follows; The work is based on the twelve-tone technique and succeeded as not only a technical innovation but also an art. The Suite of six movements established atonality with organic relation and balance among each movement. Original form of the suite varied into retrograde, inversion, and retrograde inversion forms and especially the proceeding of B.A.C.H is unique in this work and some characteristics are as follows: ○ The harmony of polyphony and contrapuntal technique, ○ Irregular and free thematic material, ○ Rhythmic variation and the variety of rhythms, ○ Free recapitulation which avoid the repetition of the exposition. Twelve-tone technique come to be widely used in larger scale composition of absolute music. From these facts, it proved that twelve-tone technique is a possible method to compose the modern music, the basic technique of the Musique Serielle and technical innovation for present-day music.;본 연구는 종래의 조성적인 기능화음에 혁신을 가져다 주었고 20세기 현대음악에 확고한 방향을 열어놓은 Schonberg의 무조성에 입각한 「12개의 서로 다른 음으로 이루어진 음열」을 기초로 한는 12음 기법을 연구하고 그 기법으로 엄격히 쓴 최초의 Piano 작품 Suite Fur Klavier op.25(1924)를 분석 고찰하였다. 여기서 필자는 12음 기법의 구성요인이 되는 음열적 분서을 하기로 하였는데 본 논문의 이해를 돕기 위하여 먼저 Schonberg 음악의 역사적 배경을 고찰하였다. 즉 Wagner가 죽은 이후 후기 낭만파에서 Schonberg에 이르기까지 음악사적 견지에서 중요한 역할을 한 사조와 음악가들을 살펴보고 Schonberg의 음악사적 위치를 알아 보았다. 다음으로 Schonberg가 조성음악과 무조음악을 거쳐 12음 음악을 창안해 내기까지의 발생과 발전과정을 살펴보고 또한 12음 음악의 기본이 되는 음열의 원형과 그것에서 변형되어질 수 있는 3가지 형태를 일일이 예를 들어 서술하였다. 다음은 Schonberg의 생애와 음악사적 특징을 4부분으로 나누어 고찰해 보았다. 간략히 말하면, 1기 (1899~1902)는 후기낭만적 경향 2기(1908~1915)는 조성의 발기 3기(1916~1932)는 12음 기법이 창안된 시기로 12음 기법 완숙의 시기 4기(1933~1951)는 히틀러 나치즘과 더불어 시작된 Schonberg의 쇠퇴기 등으로 고찰된다. 마지막으로 op.25 suite fur Klavier를 분석함으로 본인은 다음과 같은 결론을 얻게 되었다. 이 작품은 완전한 12음기법을 기본으로 한 작품이며 12음기법 자체에 있어서 혁신적인 음미는 물론 성공적인 예술작품으로서 전체적인 구성력, 6개의 악장으로 된 조곡으로서 각 악장간의 유기적인 관계와 균형으로 무조성을 확립하고 있다. 또한 악곡의 기본이 되는 음열이 역행, 반행, 반역행의 여러 가지 형태로 변주되어 있으며 특히 B?A?C?H의 음진행이 뚜렷이 보인다. 또한, o 화성법의 Polyphony화와 대위법적 작곡기법 o 불규칙적이며 자유로운 주제 구성 o Rhythm 변주와 Rhythm의 다양성 o 제시의 정확한 반복을 피한 자유로운 재현 등의 12음기법적 악곡구성의 특징이 뚜렷이 나타나 있다.
