「변강쇠 歌」 硏究

Abstract

본 논문은 판소리 사설 「변강쇠가」의 작품구조와 인물 분석을 통하여 작품의 의미를 해석하고 그 고유 문학적 특성을 밝힘과 동시에 文學史 내지는 판소리史에서의 정확한 위치를 규명하고자 하는 목적에서 시도되었다. 이 작품은 인물과 사건을 통한 내용 상의 희극성 뿐 아니라 문체와 수사법에 의한 표현 상의 희극성을 특징으로 하는 희극적 표층구조를 가지고 있다. 그러나 기본 서사구조는 죽음을 둘러싸고 벌어지는 원한 맺힘과 풀림의 구조이고 그에 의해 투영되는 비극성을 특징으로 한다. 결국, 성적인 노출과 과장, 떠들썩한 연회장면 등으로 표출되는 희극성은 개인과 사회 간의 不協, 인간 본능의 억압, 가난과 유리된 생활 등에서 기인한 여러 비극성을 위장하고 있는 '뼈있는 웃음'이다. 또 원한의 맺힘-풀림이라는 비극적 심층구조로 볼 때 장승이나 기타 사람들과는 달리 강쇠의 원한은 맺히기만 하고 풀리지 않았다는 데에서 강쇠의 비극성은 중시되지 않았다는 사실을 알 수 있다. 위의 구조 분석아래 각 인물의 성격과 역할을 살펴보면 장승과 옹녀, 텝득이를 비롯한 여러 인물들은 당대의 억압받던 민중들로, 그리고 강쇠는 그와 대립되는 의롭지 못한 의식을 지닌 특권층으로 파악되었다. 결국, 이 작품의 참된 의미는 비극적 심층구조에서 찾아야 한다. 따라서 사회적으로나 가정 안에서 부정적인 한 개인에 대한 공동체의 이념 (장승) 및 실체 (옹녀와 그외 다수)의 대결과 공동체의 승리를 그리고 있다. 그에 더하여 性을 긍정하고 하층민의 삶의 모습을 그대로 투영하여 평민적 세계관을 대변하고 있다. 그것은 다시 이 작품이 양반에 의해 윤색이 덜 된, 즉 판소리史에서 초기의 것임을 증명한다.;This paper aims to examine the literary characteristics and standing of pansori Byung-gang-soe-ga in terms of its structure and characters as well as its thematic implication. Byun-gang-soe-ga has a comic surface structure in which characters and evnts are described with its peculiar stylistic and rhetorical comicality. However, its basic inner structure shows a particular cycle of intensifying and relaxing the sense off 'Han'(a feeling of resentment or grudge), thus smacking of the tragic tension consummated by death. It is thus that the comicality expressed by sexual exposure and exaggeration in the midst of revels and binges ultimately represents the 'laughing with some hidden but bitter meaning" camouflaging the discord between individual and society, repression of human instinct, povery and alienation in real life. In terms of its tragic process of the intensification and relaxation of the 'Han', the pathetic situation of Kangsoe, the protagonist is generally neglected because his bitter feeling is not relieved, like in other characters including Jang-seung. The structural analysis also shows that such major characters as Jang-seung, Ong-nyo and Dep-deug-i are described as the oppressed underprivileged while Gang-soe himself is regarded as belonging to the sinister privileged, In sum, the real meaning of Byun-gang-soe-ga lies in the ultimate triumph of the community (its ideal, Jang-seung and its reality, Ong-nyo) during its struggle against one wicked individual. The triumph of the community implies the world view of the commons, advocating sound sexual life. Its outright description of the trials and tribulations on the part of the commonsdemonstrates that the work was made at the early stage of the pansori history, without any distortion or adaptation by the upper class, Yangban.
