Abstract
The modern thechnology society is well distinguished with technology developments, accelerating social and cultural changes, continuous of value system, and explosion of knowledges and information. Formal education alone is being weakened in playing the roles and functions to cope with these rapid changes in modern society. Nowadays, enterprises have been undergoing transition from restricted local competition to unlimited international competition. In modern industrial societies, where radical changes repeat, developing abilities of enterprise have been perceived as necessary in order to adapt to the change of surroundings and to flourish. In the information world globalizing envirenment, when the competitiveness of enterprises depends on the quality of human resources, the individual capability of employees has increasing influence on enterprises. Therefore, employees' training to develop their own ability is getting more and more important. The purpose of this study is to find out (ⅰ) how much needs the employees have of the job-related self-development, and (ⅱ) how they feel regarding the employees' training, through the quantitative research. This study will provide the basic data on the effective implementation of training in the enterprises to satisfy employees' need of self-development. The subjects of this study are the 316 employees in the 12 enterprises whose headquarters are in Seoul. The instrument is a questionnaires based on literatures of employees' education/training. To analysis the corrected data SPSS(Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) was used. More specifically, T-Test, ANOVA, X^(2) were performfed. The major findings of this study are summarized as follows. 1. Employees' needs of the job-related self-development First, it turns out that the higher needs of the job-related self-development are shown in the fields of foreign language knowledge on international affairs, and information on regions. It is consistent with the recent tendencies of information world·globalization. It follows that the employees' needs of the job-related self-development accommodate to the surroundings of changes and progress. Second, the study shows that with respect to sex and academic background, women and junior school graduates, respectively, have the higher needs of the job-related self-development. It is because, men and university graduates have mere abilities of their own. Third, the older the employees are, the more capability they have. It follows that the younger they are, the higher needs they have of self-development. 2. Perception on employees' training First, the 94.9 percentage of the subjects positively respond to the question over the necessity of training. Second, regarding the variety of training type, the 43 percentage of the study say that it lacks a variety. Third, the 45.3 percentage of the subjects answer negatively as to the equality of training opportunity. Fourth, on the question over on the effect of training, the 73.5 percentage of subjects positively say that it is helpful. Fifth, the 73.5 percentage of the subjects show positive attitudes toward the training, mentioning that they are doing their best.
