- Abstract
In this thesis, a low-noise amplifier (LNA) and a high-Q bandpass filter(BPF) in cascade have been realized in cascade by using a 0.18-um CMOS technology. The chip targets to the applications of a subsampling wideband direct-conversion receiver. The wideband LNA exploits the inverter-type transimpedance configuration with a 3rd order Chebyshev filter at the input. Its measured results demonstrate the -3dB bandwidth of 5.35GHz, the power gain (S21) of 12dB, the noise figure (NF) of 6.9~10.8dB, and the broadband input matching of less than -10 dB within the bandwidth. Meanwhile, the high-Q BPF is designed to select a 2.33-GHz RF signal, which is particularly intended for Bluetooth receivers. As the RF signal from the antenna passes through the LNA and BPF circuit, the output signal provides 18.8 -dB gain with 31-MHz bandwidth, corresponding the quality factor of 75. The whole circuit dissipates 64.8mW from a single 1.8-V supply. The LNA and BPF chip occupies the area of 1X 1mm2.
Also, a narrowband LNA centered at 5.8GHz has been designed for the applications of wireless LAN. The narrowband LNA incorporates the cascode common-source configuration so as to avoid the Miller effect. The simulation results of the LNA exhibit 13.4-dB gain, 3.3-dB noise figure with good input matching (S11=-11dB) and output matching (S22=-16dB). The designed LNA consumes only 4.8mW from a 1.8-V supply voltage.
