뎨국신문(帝國新聞)의 교육 사상 연구

Abstract

19 세기말 갑신정변, 갑오경장, 광무개혁등이 추진되어 자주적 개혁의식을 가지고 대한 제국은 교육 개혁을 체계화, 현실화하려고 하였다. 또 가중되는 외세 열강의 개입으로 국권이 침탈되는 가운데 자율적인 성장을 모색하기 위하여 시대적 요구에 부응한 언론과 학회의 활동이 활발하였다. 本 稿는 그 중 19 세기말∼20 세기 초에 순 한글 신문으로 민족 계몽을 일임하고자 하였던 뎨국신문의 논설과 그 논설란에 실린 의미 있는 긔셔 및 잡보를 통하여 교육 사상의 가치를 조명해보고자 한 것이다. 또한 1898년에서 1907년까지의 분석된 논설을 도표화하여 비교하였으며, 1900년 전후와 을사조약 이후 1906년대에 시대적 상황을 배경으로 하는 교육 계몽 운동을 살필 수 있었다. 따라서 뎨국신문의 시대 극복을 위한 교육 사상의 전개를 규명하고자 하였다. 뎨국신문은 국가의 자주 독립과 자강을 목적으로 삼아 국민과 국가의 권리를 확립시키고 애국심을 고취시켜 국가의 중흥을 꾀하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 뎨국신문은 민족의식의 각성을 일깨우고자 한 민족의식 교육, 우리글에 대한 사랑과 더불어 교육 확장 수단으로써 국문 사용 고취를 위한 국문 교육, 여성의 계발로 부강 근원의 확장을 꾀한 여성 교육, 미래 동량으로써의 중요성을 부여한 아동 교육, 국력의 기초로써 국민 건강 증진을 위한 보건 교육 등에서 교육 사상을 전개하여 궁극적으로 자주, 자립할 수 있는 국민으로 나아가 자주, 자립할 수 있는 국가로의 방향을 모색코자 하였다. 뎨국신문은 교육을 국가 재건의 근본으로 여겨 교육 활성화 방법론으로 신학문의 적극적 수용, 학교 설립을 통한 인재 양성, 교사 양성, 신학문 교과서 보급과 유학생 파견 등을 제시하고 또한, 일제의 한민족에 대한 외교권 박탈 이후 우민화(愚民化) 교육 정책이 표면화되자 보통 교육의 보급과 균등화를 위하여 의무 교육을 강조함으로써 국민 교육력 상실을 방지하고 우리 교육 계몽이 나아갈 방향을 제시하고자 하였던 것이다. 이와 같이 뎨국신문은 개화기에 국민 계몽 교육을 선도하여 교육을 통한 국가 부흥을 성취하고자 한 교육적 의지는 실로 의의가 크다 하겠다.;At the period from 1876 to 1910 including the era of the Korean Empire, through the journal-publishing and society-movement and the evolution such as Kabo Evolution, Kwangmu Evolution so on, the various patriotic activities with the national self-strengthening, educational reformation and movement for keeping the national sovereignity against to the exploitation of imperialism were trying. The purpose of this study is to discuss the educational movement toward the common people enlightenment for the self-strengthening through the Daekuk Shinmun, which was published with exclusively employed Korean letters and contributed to make the newspaper-reading popular especially to the women during the period of 1898∼1910. The materials surveyed in this study are the editorials, which had reflected the social thoughts and movements for self-strengthening Also city news, called 'Jabbo' and contributions, called 'Guesheo' which had the contents related to the educational interests, were included. The editorials of Daekuk Shinmun were classified majority into the education, politics, economics, social affairs and culture for the appreciation of the role in common people enlightenment. So thus the detailed fields in educational contents are classified into enlightenment, the modern knowledge-learning, national literature education, education of women, juvenile education and health education including encouragement of the nationalism. Through its editorials the Daekuk Shinmun emphasized the educational reformation for the modern knowledge such as the establishment of the new school, the upbringing a man of ability and a teacher, the development of the textbooks, the going abroad for study the modern knowledge. Most of all, Daekuk Shinmun emphasized the elementary education and its equal educational opportunity for the modern knowledge-learning. Therefore the Daekuk Shinmun with the exclusive employed Korean letters could be appreciated for its leading role in the enlightenment of the people and the educational reformation for the national self-strengthening.
