이화여자대학교 기독교교육의 역사적 고찰과 현황

Abstract

기독교학교의 역사는 개화와 함께 개신교 선교사의 내주로부터 시작된다. 개신교 선교사들이 한국선교를 위해 취한 중요한 방법의 하나는 바로 교육사업이었다. 이는 개화기 서양문물에 대한 관심이 증대됨에 따라 근대교육의 필요성이 부각되자 개신교 선교사들이 교육 사업을 통하여 선교를 실천하고자 한국에 내주하여 많은 기독교학교를 설립한 것이다. 그러나 선교를 목적으로 설립된 기독교학교는 오늘날 학문의 수월성(academic excellence)을 추구하면서 그 근본기능인 선교의 목적을 상실해가고 있다. 이에 본 연구자는 한국의 기독교학교 중에서도 여성교육을 주도한 이화여자대학교의 기독교교육의 변천사를 살펴보고, 현재 이화여대 기독교교육의 현실을 파악해봄으로써 앞으로 이화여자대학교 기독교 교육의 나아갈 방향을 제시하고자 한다. 본 논문의 서론인 제1장에서는 기독교학교인 이화여자대학교의 설립이념을 밝히고 현재 기독교교육의 현황과 문제점을 지적하여 연구의 필요성을 밝힐 것이다. 또한 연구의 방법과 제한점도 함께 기술할 것이다. 제2장에서는 한국의 기독교학교가 설립된 배경과 과정을 살펴보고 대표적으로 배재학당, 이화학당, 경신학교, 정신여학교의 설립과 교육 이념을 간단히 기술할 것이다. 제3장에서는 대표적 기독교학교인 이화여자대학교 기독교교육의 변천과정을 채플과 기독교 절기행사, 기독교 교양과목의 세 측면에서 고찰해 볼 것이다. 제4장에서는 현재 이화여자대학교에서 실시되는 기독교교육에 대해 재학생 208명을 대상으로 실시한 설문조사의 결과를 제시하고 분석할 것이다. 제5장에서는 기독교대학인 이화여자대학교의 교육이념을 다시금 밝히고 선교의 목적을 이루기 위해 기독교교육의 나아갈 방향을 채플과 기독교 교양과목을 중심으로 제시할 것이다. 그리고 본 논문의 내용을 요약하고 이화여자대학교의 보다 나은 기독교교육을 위한 몇가지 제언을 할 것이다; The history of mission school begins with the missionaries moving into the Korea in the age of civilization. As peoples interest about the Occident civilization was increased, the modern education was required in Korea. So the Protestant missionaries practiced the education business as one of the important method for missionary work and established many mission schools. However, orientating academic excellence, the mission school is now losing the basic purpose as missionary work. For this reason, I researched the historical changes in religious education at Ewha which could be appreciated as the leader of the education of women and presented the direction of religious education of Ewha University, as pointing out the problems through the present diagnosis. The study is consist of the following chapters. Chapter One reviews the ideology of Ewha s establishment and the necessity of present condition of religious education, as pointing out the problems. The way of study and the limitations of this study for further studies are also suggested. Chapter Two explores the background and the process of the establishment of mission school. I choose nest four mission schools and shortly described the ideology of educational establishment ; Paichai Haktang, Ewha Haktang, Jungshin girl s school. Chapter Three exams the historical changes of religious education in Ewha. I classified this as the three aspects; chapel, christian subdivisions of the seasons the ideology of education and christian. Chapter Four examines the present religious education practised in Ewha analyzing the result of making up questions. Chapter Five explained the ideology of education of Ewha again, and suggest the direction of religious education to reach the goal of missionary. And content of this treatise is summarized and a number of suggestions are presented for more religious education at Ewha Womans University.
