유아기 자녀를 둔 학부모의 조기/특기교육에 관한 실태분석 연구

Abstract

본 연구의 대상은 서울시의 강남지역과 수도권 지역인 분당 신도시에 위치한 사립유치원과 유사 유아교육기관에 재원하고 있는 3~5세 유아의 학부모 1,000명을 대상으로 하여 질문지를 배포하였으며 이 중에서 회수된 593부를 자료분석대상으로 하였다. 연구도구는 우남희 외(1993)가 제작한 질문지를 연구자가 수정·보완하여 사용하였다. 연구방법은 설문조사방법을 사용하였다. 자료의 분석은 SAS 통계프로그램을 이용하여 빈도분석, 백분율 및 표준편차, 기술 통계 및 Pearson 상관분석의 방법을 사용하였다. 본 연구의 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 조기/특기교육의 일반적 현황을 살펴본 결과, 조기/특기 교육의 필요성에서는 연구대상 어머니의 과반수(57.2%)이상이 필요하다고 대답하였으며 조기/특기교육을 시키는 이유는 주위에서 모두 시키니까 때문이 18.2%로 가장 많았다. 조기/특기교육의 시작시기는 만4세가 적절하다는 응답이 41.8%이며, 조기/특기교육의 종별 순위는 영어가 65.4%로 가장 높게 나타났으며, 미술이 58.1%, 한글이 54.7%의 순으로 나타났다. 조기/특기교육의 선호도에서는 예능분야가 43.9%로 가장 선호하는 분야로 나타났으며 유아 1명당 참여하고 잇는 평균 조기/특기교육의 수는 4.23개로 나타났으며, 조기/특기교육의 종류별 지속시간은 영재교육 1.2년과 한글 1.1년이 가장 긴 것으로 분석되었다. 둘째, 조기/특기교육비의 현황은 다음과 같다. 월별 조기/특기교육비의 범위는 10만원대(25.1%)와 20만원대(24.3%)로서 전체의 절반정도를 차지하고 있으며 평균 약 25만원의 비용이 드는 것으로 나타났으며, 조기/특기교육비에 대한 부모의 만족도 결과는 과반수가 넘는 55.6%가 상당히 또는 다소 부담스럽다고 응답하였다. 그러나 경제적 부담을 느끼지 않는 부모도 45%로 상당한 분포를 나타내고 있었다. 부모의 월 평균 수입과 조기/특기교육 소요경비, 개인별 조기/특기교육 참여수 간의 유의미한 관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 조기/특기교육에 대해 부모가 인식하는 자녀의 반응을 알아보기 위해서 우선 소요시간을 조사하였는데 조기/특기교육에 소요되는 시간은 주당 5시간이하가 56.3%로 나타났으며, 주당 5-10시간도 27.6%로 조사되었다. 또한 조기/특기교육에 소요되는 교육시간을 약간 부담스러워 하는 유아는 22.1%로 나타났고, 더 많은 시간을 배우길 희망하는 유아도 17.2%로 상당수 있는 것으로 나타났다.; The purpose of this study is to identify parents understanding on early and special ability education and provide basic information needed for upright direction of early childhood education. For this purpose, the study questions have been set up as follows: 1. What are the general conditions of early and special ability education? 1-1 Needs 1-2 Classification(or kinds) 1-3 Starting age 1-4 Parents reaction 1-5 The most preferred kinds of early and special ability education 2. How much does it cost for those education(Educational Expenses)? 2-1 Educational expenses 2-2 Parents satisfaction with their educational expenses 2-3 Educational expenses by various factors of parents 3. How do the parents understand on children s reaction to early and special ability education? 3-1 Kinds 3-2 Time devoted 3-3 Defrayment 3-4 Parent s satisfaction The subject of the study is the 1,000 persons of parents whose children are 3~5 years old and go to private kindergarten and/or other similar education institutes located in Gangnam area in Seoul and Bundang newtown in Seongnam City. The research was conducted through the survey method the questionnaire of which is applied after the correction of Namheui Ooh & others(1993) questionnaire. Frequency analysis, technical statistics, Pearson r, and Chi Square are employed as the date analysis tools. The digestive results of this study are as below: 1. General conditions of early and special ability education Over the half of the parents replied positive answers for the needs for early and special ability education and among the reasons, the item of because others have their children do took the highest portion(16.7% of the parents replied). Concerning the starting age for education, 41.8% of the parents replied that age 4 would be proper for the early and special ability education. The 3 high ranked lessons in order are English(65.4%), Art(58.1%), and Home-visit Study(56.3%). In terms of preference, 43.9% of the parents showed the most preference on art and music courses. The number of lessons they took are 4~5 in average and special education and Hanguel study have the longest duration time by lesson as 1.2 years and 1.1 years respectively. 2. Educational Expenses Educational expenses of the half of the parents ranged 100,000~199,999 won(25.1%) or 200,000~299,999 won(24.3%); an average expenditure was approximately 250,000 won. The educational expenses was fairly and/or more and less a burden to over the half of the parents(55.6%). The educational expenses and the number of lessons they took showed static correlation. 3. Parents understanding on children s reaction to early and special ability education 56.3% of the parents answered the time devoted to early and special ability education was less than 5 hours per week and 27.6% showed 5~10 hours per week. Also 22.1% of the children felt uncomfortable for the time devoted to early and special ability education; on the other hand, the children who want to prolong the education time reached 17.2%.
