한국 전래동화에 나타난 등장인물의 폭력성과 여성관 분석

Abstract

The purpose of this thesis was twofold. The one was to study the violent acts perpetrated by bad characters and good characters in Korean traditional fairy tales for children. The other was to analyze feminine traits in them. In doing so, thirty Korean traditional fairy tales most preferred by children were selected and analyzed. In order to study violence perpetrated by characters and feminine traits depicted in Korean traditional folk tales, following specific research questions were formulated: Ⅰ. In what way are the violent acts shown in Korean traditional fairy tales? Ⅰ-1. Who perpetrate violence? The bad character or the good character? Ⅰ-2. What kinds of violence are used by the characters? Ⅰ-3. What are the reasons of violent acts? Ⅰ-4. What are the results of violent acts? Ⅱ. In what way are woman portrayed in Korean traditional fairy tales? Ⅱ-1. What are the prevalent status of female characters? Ⅱ-2. What are the prevalent female behaviors? Ⅱ-3. Who help female characters to be saved? Ⅱ-4. What are the rewards given to female characters by being saved? In order to explore the research questions, content analysis was made. The prevalent violent acts portrayed in Korean traditional fairy tales were categorized into 4 major units. The feminine traits were also categorized into 4 major units. The results were in the following. In Korean traditional fairy tales, the prevalence of violence was proven. In 93% of the tales, violent acts were used. Among them, cruel violence and direct physical attack were most frequent. Violence perpetrated by the good characters were present in 30% of the tales. This results imply that children can see the violence with good reasons, without feeling or expressing indignation over it, 65% of the violent acts used in the tales were shown as being rewarded. It is likely to be seen that violent acts may be an effective means to be used to get what someone wants. In Korean traditional fairy tales, the status of female characters were daughter, mother, wife, grandmother, etc. They were not given any proper names and were in poverty. Prevalent female behaviors were portrayed as weakness, dependence, docility, resignation, etc. Women were described powerless. In most cases women were saved by male figures. This results imply that children can relegate the female traits as inferior to masculine traits. ; 본 연구는 초등학교 아동들이 선호하는 한국 전래동화에 나타난 등장인물의 폭력성과 여성관을 분석하는 연구이다. 전래동화에 등장하는 인물의 행동 유형에 따라 선인과 악인으로 나누고, 선인과 악인을 비교하여 폭력성과 여성관을 분석하였다. 폭력성은 폭력의 종류, 내용, 사용하는 이유, 사용한 결과를 분석하였고, 여성관은 여성의 지위, 행동, 구원의 인물, 구원의 결과를 분석함으로써 한국 전래동화에 나타난 등장인물의 폭력성과 여성관을 밝히고자 하였다. 이는 교사의 전래동화 수업시 역기능적인 면을 순기능으로 전환시킬 수 있는 시각과 전래동화의 개작시 기초 자료로서 활용코자 하는데 그 목적이 있다. 연구 문제는 다음과 같다. Ⅰ. 한국 전래동화에 폭력성은 어떠한 방식으로 나타나는가? Ⅰ - 1. 폭력을 사용하는 인물은 누구인가? Ⅰ - 2. 폭력의 종류는 무엇인가? Ⅰ - 3. 폭력을 사용하는 이유는 무엇인가? Ⅰ - 4. 폭력을 사용한 결과는 어떠한가? Ⅱ. 한국 전래동화에 여성은 어떠한 방식으로 표현되는가? Ⅱ - 1. 여성의 지위는 무엇인가? Ⅱ - 2. 여성의 행동은 어떠한가? Ⅱ - 3. 여성에 대한 구원의 인물은 누구인가? Ⅱ - 4. 여성에 대한 구원의 결과는 어떠한가? 본 연구는 한국 전래동화 30화를 연구 대상으로 하였고, 연구 방법은 내용분석법을 사용하였다. 한국 전래동화에 나타난 등장인물의 폭력성과 여성관을 4개의 주항목으로 분석 범주를 정하여 분석하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 한국 전래동화에서 폭력적인 장면이 93%의 전래동화에서 나타나고 있으며 강도 높은 폭력과 직접적인 폭력의 사용 빈도가 매우 높게 나타났다. 특히 선인이 사용하는 폭력은 30%로 나타나는데 이것은 아동들에게 도덕적인 갈등없이 명분있는 폭력으로 받아들여질 수 있다고 본다. 등장인물이 폭력을 사용한 후 성공적인 결과를 얻게되는 경우가 65%로 나타났다. 이것은 폭력의 사용이 문제해결에 있어서 효과적인 수단으로 보일 수도 있다. 둘째, 한국 전래동화에 등장하는 여성의 지위는 딸, 어머니, 아내, 할머니 등으로 나타나고, 자신의 이름이 없으며 가난한 생활을 하고 있는 것으로 묘사된다. 여성의 행동은 남성에게 순종하고 의존하면서 희생적으로 살아가는 나약한 인물로 나타났다. 때문에 항상 구원의 인물에 의해서만 긍정적인 결과를 얻게되어 여성은 무력한 존재로 묘사되었다. 구원의 인물도 대부분이 남성으로 설정되어 남성의 우월함을 잠재적으로 나타내고 있다.
