중학교 사회과 수업에서 신문자료를 이용한 국제이해교육의 실태 조사

Abstract

현대의 사회는 한 개인이나 한 국가 단독으로 생존해 나가기 어려운 사회이다. 더욱이 21세기를 앞둔 오늘날 국제사회는 상호의존성이 더욱 높아지고 긴밀해지고 있는 실정이다. 이는 교통과 통신의 발달로 더욱더 가속화되고 있으며 세계는 이제 하나의 공동 생활권에 놓여 있다. 그러나 이와 같이 국제화·세계화 추세가 하나의 지구를 이루는데 긍정적인 면만 있는 것은 아니다. 세계는 공동의 생활을 이루기 위해 노력하는 한편 반대로 치열한 국제경쟁과 세계 속의 자국 문화의 위상 정립 문제와 인류가 해결해야 할 여러가지 문제를 안고 있다. 이러한 세계적 상황에서 국제 사회의 공동 이익 추구에 기여하고 동시에 우리 나라의 국제 경쟁력을 갖출 수 있는 인력의 양성이 시급히 이루어져야 할 것이다. 이에 본 연구는 사회과 수업에 있어 위와 같은 인력을 양성하는데 중요한 역할을 담당하는 국제이해교육의 의미와 신문자료를 이용한 국제이해교육의 실태를 조사하여 국제이해교육을 위한 기초 자료로 활용하고자 한다. 그리하여 본 연구는 우선 사회과 교육과 국제이해교육과의 관계를 중심으로 국제이해교육의 개념과 우리나라에서 이루어지는 국제이해교육을 살펴보았다. 이와 함께 학습자료로서의 신문의 의의와 사회과 수업에서의 신문자료 활용에 관해 문헌 연구를 통해 살펴보았다. 그리고 실제 학교 현장에서 신문자료를 이용한 국제이해교육의 실태를 알아보기 위해 설문 조사를 실시하였다. 서울시 중학교 사회과 교사 88명과 학생 617명을 대상으로 교사와 학생들의 신문자료의 이용 정도와 빈도, 내용, 수업의 방법, 효과 인식 부분으로 나누어 설문지를 작성하고 이를 SPSS/WIN을 이용해 분석하였다. 교사와 학생 모두 국제이해교육 수업에서 신문을 자료로서 가장 많이 이용한다고 하였고, 현재 수업 시간 시 한 달에 1회 미만 활용하는 신문자료를 앞으로는 그 이용의 횟수를 늘릴 것이라고 하였다. 그리고 신문자료 중 세계 문제 인식의 부분이 수업에서 가장 많이 다루어지는 부분으로 이는 발표 수업이나 토론식 수업에 많이 응용할 수 있기 때문인 것으로 나타났다. 신문을 이용한 국제이해교육의 수업은 그렇지 않은 수업에 비해 매우 효과적이라고 나타났는데 그 효과의 정도는 교사나 학생 개인의 사회·경제적 배경보다는 수업에의 열의나 흥미, 이해도에 따라 달라지며 학생이 느끼는 효과보다는 교사가 인식하는 효과가 더 크다고 나타났다. 이와 같은 분석 결과 신문은 이제 국제이해교육에 있어 매우 중요한 자료로 인정받고 있으며 앞으로 그 기대 효과는 더욱 커질 것이다. 이에 대하여 교사와 학생 모두는 신문자료에 대한 바르고 정확한 이해와 함께 효과적인 활용방안을 항상 검토하여 사회과 수업에 있어 효과적인 학습이 이루어질 수 있도록 하여야 하겠다. ; Modern society is a society in which an individual or nation finds it difficult to subsist independently. Moreover, the actual circumstance of today s international society is that the interdependency between nations is growing higher and closer. This is being accelerated by the development of traffic and communication, and the world is forming a grat community zone. However, there is not only positive aspects of this internationalization and globalization for making the earth one united community. The world is making efforts to form a great community, but it also has many problems to solve such as fierce competitions between nations to hold superiority in the market and in the cultural establishment. In this international society, Korean people should contribute to the benefits of the international society and also cultivate manpower with international competitive power without delay. Hereupon, this study is to investigate the meaning of global education playing an important role in cultivating manpower in the social studies class and to research the actual condition of global education through newspaper data to make use of the results as basic data for the global education. Therefore, in this study concept of global education and its actual execution in our country are investigated at first mainly around the relation between the social studies education and global education. Together with this, the significance of newspaper as a datum and the practical use of it in the social studies class are examined through literature reference. For this purpose, the author of this study carried out a questionnaire research to see the actual condition of global education through newspaper data in the actual scene of education. Upon 88 middle school social studies teachers and 617 students in Seoul as a subject of this study, a questionnaire was composed of such items as the level of using newspaper as a datum, frequency, details teaching methods, and recognition of the effects etc., and the results were analyzed by SPSS/WIN. Both teachers and students responded that newspaper was the most frequently used datum in the global education class and the frequency of use would be increased from under once a month. Recognition of world problems was the most important subject of the class because it can be applied a lot to the presentation and discussion. Global education class using newspaper was shown to be much more effective than the class without using, and the degree of effect differed by personal earnestness, interest and understanding in the class rather than the social, economic background of the teacher or student. And it was revealed that teachers recognized the effect much bigger than student thought it to be. As a result of this analysis, the author thinks that now newspaper is considered as an important datum for the global education and its expected effect will be increasing in the future. In response to this, both teachers and students should always review effective plans for using newspaper data practically as well as correct, precise understanding of them to make the social studies class more effective.
