중학교 수학의 외적 연결성 : 연결 자료를 중심으로

Abstract

최근에 학교에서 배우는 수많은 지식과 기능이 연결되지 못하고, 실제 생활과의 연결성에 대한 지도가 이루어지지 않고 있음에 대한 반성이 일어나고 있다. 학교 수학의 가치를 알기 위해서는 학습자의 경험과 관련된 문제 속에서 수학내용을 파악할 수 있어야 한다는 것이 보편적인 생각이다. 특히 NCTM(1989)에서는 수학교육에 있어 학생들이 길러야 할 수학적 소양을 말하고 있으며, 그 규준 중의 하나로 수학적 연결성을 강조하고 있다. 수학적 연결성이란 초, 중등교육과정에서 다른 주제영역에서의 수학적 개념의 통합을 의미하며, 수학내 다른 내용들 사이의 관계를 인식하는 내적인 연결과 수학과 다른 교육과정, 또는 다른 학문과의 관계를 인식하는 외적인 연결을 포함한다. 많은 학생들은 지금 학교에서 배우는 수학에 부정적인 시각을 갖고 있으며 언제 어떻게 수학이 사용될 수 있는지 알지 못하고 심지어 교사들조차 여기에 적절한 답을 주지 못하는 실정이다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 학생들로 하여금 수학학습의 가치를 인식하고 그 흥미를 유지하기 위해서는 다양한 상황에서 수학이 사용되는 예를 제시할 필요가 있음을 인식하고, 특히 수학교사들의 실제 학습지도에 도움이 되는 자료를 구성하는데 목표를 두었다. 학년별, 단원별로 중학교 교과서에서 전개되는 1. 수와 식 2. 방정식과 부등식 3. 함수 4. 통계, 확률 5. 도형의 순서로 내용을 제시하였다. 또한 학교에서 배우는 수학적 개념과 절차가 실제 생활 속에서 어떻게 연결되는 지 보이고자 하였다. 수학의 외적 연결지도의 목표는 수학과 실생활과의 상호관계에 대한 이해를 통해 활동과 과정으로서의 수학에 흥미를 지속적으로 갖고 학습하게 하는데 있다. 이때 교사의 적극적이며 끊임없는 탐구적 자세는 매우 중요하며 이러한 방향으로 교수보조자료의 개발과 교사 재교육이 이루어져야 하겠다. ; In these days, it s important to motivate students by showing connections between subjects in mathematics and real life in schlool education. After identified as one of the curiculum standards of the NCTM in 1989, "mathematical connections" has been emphasized as an important topic in mathematics education. In spite of utility of mathematics, there has been no thorough study on external connections in all topics of mathematics in middle school. So this article shows how subjects of mathematics are related to the real world. This study covers all areas of middle school mathematics in the following order. 1. Numbers and Calculations 2. Equations 3. Functions 4. Statistics and Probability 5. Geometry By presenting examples that show external connections of mathematics to the real world, this study will give ideas for teachers to motivate their students to have interest in mathematics and to apply mathematical knowledge in real life. We expect further study on effectiveness of teaching subjects on the external connections in actual instruction. And we need to continuously develop contents and teaching method about mathematical connections.
