환경 관련 TV 프로그램 분석과 학교 환경교육의 영역 및 내용과의 연계성

Abstract

학교 환경교육이 실시된 지 올해로 5년째로 접어들었다. 학교에서 환경교과가 정착하기 위해서는 교수 방법과 자료 개발에 대한 연구가 중요하여 현재 교육자들에 의해서 많은 연구가 진행되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 학교 환경교육에 효과적인 자료로 활용될 수 있는 환경 관련 TV 프로그램들을 분석하였다. 현황 분석을 위하여 EBS, KBS, MBC, SBS 방송사의 최근 5년간(1994년부터 1998년까지) 방영된 환경 관련 프로그램들을 수집하여, 연도별, 방송시간 분량별, 방송 형태별로 분석하였다. 또한 학교 환경교육의 영역 및 내용에 따라 조사된 프로그램들을 분류하여 내용분석을 하였다. 환경 관련 TV 프로그램들을 연도별로 분석한 결과, 최근 5년간 4개의 방송사중에서 EBS TV(305편)가 가장 많은 환경 관련 프로그램을 방영하였으며, 그 다음으로는 SBS(141편), KBS(36편)의 순서였다. 1994년부터 1998년에 이르기까지 환경 관련 프로그램 제작 편수들은 점차 감소하는 추세를 보였다. 방송시간 분량별 분석 결과는 30분에서 60분 미만의 프로그램이 가장 많았으며, 120분 이상의 프로그램이 차지하는 비율은 가장 적은 편수를 나타내었다. 방송형태별 프로그램 분석은 환경 관련 정규방송형태, 황경 비관련 정규방송형태, 기타 특별방송형태의 세 가지로 크게 나누어 각 프로그램들을 분류하였다. 대부분 교양 다큐멘터리 프로그램과 보도 특집 프로그램의 형태를 취하고 있었다. 학교 환경교육의 영역 및 내용과 환경 관련 TV 프로그램의 연계성 분석 결과에서는 환경보전(28.3%)과 환경오염(21.04%), 자연황경(19.83%)에 관한 내용을 가장 많이 소재로 채택하고 있었으며, 인구(0.35%), 환경위생(1.74%), 자원(1.91%)에 관한 내용은 극히 적었다. 이와 같은 연구 분석 결과를 통하여 환경에 관련된 프로그램은 주 시청 대상을 성인으로 삼고 있으며, 프로그램의 형태도 제한적이고, 내용도 다양하지 않음을 알 수 있었다. 그러므로 환경프로그램이 교육현장에 활용되기 위해서는 시간이나 내용, 학생들의 인지수준 등의 사전 검토와 편집이 필요하다. 앞으로 시청 대상의 특성을 고려하여 새롭고 참신한 형태로, 다양한 내용을 다룰 수 있는 환경 교육 프로그램을 제작 및 방영한다면 학교 현장에서 뿐 아니라 일반인들의 환경교육에도 크게 이바지 할 것으로 예상된다. ; It has been five since the subject of environment became part of the educational system. Research for teaching methods and materials development os very important to adopt the subject into the system. Several on going studies are being undertaken by educators. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the feasibility of the use of environmental television programs for the purpose of education. The following steps were taken: First, all environmentally related TV environmental TV program were categorized by content, year, and duration of the programs. Following the classification of the programs, the contents of each program were closely scrutinized. As a result, EBS produced the most outstanding job by broadcasting several programs. SBS, KBS, and MBC followed. However, the number of these programs has decreased from 1994 to 1998. With respect to the duration of the programs, 30 to 60 minute length programs were dominant, while 120 minute or longer programs were rare. The format of environmental TV programs consisted of the following three types: broadcasting on a regular daily or weekly basis, irregular basis, and sporadic special reporting formats were the most common. The result of the comparisons between environmental TV programs and school environmental education showed that the TV programs focused on very few topics such as environmental conservation(28.3%), environmental pollution(21.04%) and natural environment (19.38%) while passing (1.74%) and resources(1.9%). Recommendations were made based on the study as follows. First, environmental teachers should be aware that most environmental TV programs are developed targeting adults and subsequently, should utilize them after a careful review of the materials in advance. Second, the content and format of the evaluated TV programs was very limited. Environmental TV programs should be developed by integrating diverse formats, implementing a variety of content for special targeted audiences, hence, these materials can then be used for educational programs in schools.
