국어과 매체 언어 교육 방안 연구

Abstract

현대 사회에서 매체의 영향력은 갈수록 증가하고 있다. 이러한 매체는 성인세계뿐만 아니라 학생들의 가치관이나 언어 생활 전반에 매우 다각적인 영향력을 미치고 있기 때문에 학교 교육 차원에서 적극적인 대응을 할 필요가 있다는 인식이 광범위하게 확산되고 있으며, 특히 국어 교육 차원에서 다양한 접근이 모색되고 있다. 이러한 모색의 일환으로 2002년부터 고등학교에서 시행되고 있는 제7차 교육과정에서는 '국어 생활'이라는 교양 선택 과목을 신설하여 처음으로 매체 언어에 대한 교육을 실시하고 있다. 그러나 매체 언어 교육은 필요성에 의해 도입은 되었지만, 그동안의 교육적 논의가 매우 부족하여 구체화된 커리큘럼이나 교육 방법이 부족하다고 할 수 있다. 이에 본 연구자는 학습자들에게 매체 언어에 대한 비판적 이해, 창의적 표현 능력을 신장시킬 수 있는 구체적인 방안을 모색하였다. 먼저 Ⅱ장에서는 매체 언어 교육의 개념과 목표를 살펴본 다음, 국어 교육과 매체 언어 교육의 연관성을 살피기 위해 국어 교육관의 패러다임 변화 과정을 검토해 보았다. 다음으로 매체 언어 교육이 이미 실시되고 있는 캐나다의 매체언어 교육과정 자료를 검토하여 우리나라 매체 언어 교육에 대한 시사점을 찾아보았다. 이와 함께 현재 제7차 교육과정에 제시되어 있는 매체 언어와 관련된 교육 내용을 검토하고 이후의 지향점을 모색해 보았다. Ⅲ장에서는 현재 가장 큰 영향력을 미치고 있는 매체 중 텔레비전을 선정하여 텔레비전 언어의 개념을 살펴본 후, 국어 교육에서 텔레비전 언어 교육의 방향을 모색하였다. 구체적인 방향성을 검토한 후, Ⅳ장에서는 실제 다큐멘터리와 뉴스 언어를 선정하여 국어 교육에서의 가능성을 검토하였다. 다큐멘터리언어와 뉴스 언어는 학습자들의 언어 사용 기능 신장에 도움이 되며, 비판적 사고력, 영상 문식성을 획득할 수 있게 해 준다. 또한 각각의 매체 언어가 지니고 있는 속성 즉 매체 언어의 문법을 교수-학습함으로써 뉴스와 다큐멘터리에 대한 이해 능력과 표현 능력을 함양시킬 수 있다. 이러한 국어 교육적 가능성을 토대로 다큐멘터리 언어와 뉴스 언어를 TV 프로그램에서 선정하여 실제 교수-학습 현장에서 구체적으로 사용할 수 있는 교재화의 틀을 제시해 보았다. 이러한 교수-학습 방안은 교육 현장에서 매체 언어를 교육할 때, 실제적인 도움을 줄 수 있을 것이다. 무엇보다도 매체 언어 교육이 활발히 실시되기 위해서는 가장 먼저 국어 교육의 영역이 확장되어야 한다. 듣기, 말하기, 읽기, 쓰기, 국어 지식, 문학으로 분류되어 있는 현재의 영역에 매체 언어 교육이 어떻게 자리매김할 수 있을 것인가의 문제가 선결되어야 하며, 기존의 다양한 이론적 연구들을 기반으로 실질적이고 체계적인 매체 언어 교육의 커리큘럼이 개발되어야 할 것이다.;The influence of media text keeps growing in the modern society. Since such media affects not only the adult society but also the mentality and linguistic life of the youth in many aspects, it is widely accepted that regular education system needs to take various measures towards usage of media, especially for Korean Language educational purposes. One of such attempts is the adoption of "Practical Korean Language" course in high schools for 7th curriculum which began in 2002. Although the Media Literacy courses were introduced as needed, lack of discussions on the Media Language has resulted in insufficient concrete curriculums and limited educational methodologies. This study is intended to develop actual methodologies to enhance critical understanding and creative expression of the students. Chapter Ⅱ briefly goes through the concept and target of Media Literacy Education of the present and reviews the past changes in the paradigm on Korean Language Education to clarify the relationship between Media Literacy and Korean Language Education. Following this, the Media Literacy Education program in Canada, where it is quite well-established, is studied to seek any implication on the Korean situation. At the same time, the Media related programs in the 7th curriculum is reviewed and possible suggestions for future improvement is proposed. Chapter Ⅲ chooses one most influential form of Media, the Television, studies the concept of its Media Literacy, and tries to find the usage of it in the context of Korean Language Education. Once direction is set, actual documentary programs and news media is studied for its practical usage. These programs proved to be useful in developing students' language usage abilities, critical understanding and visual literacy. On the basis of Television's usage in Korean Language Education found in previous chapters, chapter Ⅳ proposes actual course formats that can be used at educational sites using documentary and news media. It is intended to provide practical support for Media Education in the classroom. The most important factor for actively practicing Media Education is the expansion of Korean Language Education's scope. The placement of Media in the current classification of Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing, Literary Knowledge, and Literature must be clarified, and at the same time, various curriculum for practices in the classroom need to be developed.
