웹 상의 영어 어휘 학습 보조 시스템 설계 및 구현

Abstract

This thesis is the result of trials that has been made to get over the limitations of existing English study sites and English-Korean translation programs by developing a web browser that can classify the frequency of use and the degree of difficulty in English words, helping English vocabulary study and promoting the degree of understanding English sentences when a learner gets them on the Web. Now that English education on the Net is developing quickly, the fact makes it possible to put various and extensive English data on the Web to practical study use and consequently, various English study sites and English-Korean translation programs have been developed for the purpose of overcoming the barrier of the English language on the Web. But, existing English study sites and English-Korean translation programs have made as a result of only considering an interpretation of papers on the Web, so there has been no or insufficient functions that classify the frequency of use and the degree of difficulty in English words on the Web. The addition of these functions could enhance effectiveness greatly by lessening the burden of improper English vocabulary study. For this thesis, therefore, a web browser has developed by which English words are classified into five levels according to the frequency of use on the basis of the specific English-English dictionary and the browser classifies the degree of difficulty into three levels also. So when a learner gets English sentences on the Web, this browser could help the learner in understanding the sentences. Also, the other function is added explaining the concrete meaning of English vocabulary classified. By this research, the function classifying the frequency of use the degree of difficulty in English words would be improved which is insufficient for existing English study sites and English-Korean translation programs, so the present writer will expect learners to make a more effective English study by enhancing the degree of understanding English data on the Web.;본 논문은 학습자가 웹 상에서 영어문장들을 접할 때 등장하는 영어 어휘의 사용빈도 및 난이도를 분류해주는 웹브라우저를 개발하여, 학습자의 영어 어휘학습을 돕고 영어문장들에 대한 이해를 증진시켜 기존 영어어휘학습 사이트와 영한번역 프로그램의 한계점들을 해결해 보고자 하는 시도의 결과이다. 최근 급속히 인터넷을 통한 영어교육이 발달하면서 웹 상에 등장하는 다양하고 방대한 영어자료들을 실제 학습용으로 활용할 수 있게 되었고, 이에 따라 웹 상의 영어 장벽을 극복하게끔 다양한 영어어휘학습 사이트와 영한번역 프로그램들이 개발되었다. 하지만, 기존 영어 어휘학습 사이트와 번역프로그램들이 단순히 웹 문서의 의미해석만을 고려해 개발되었고, 따라서 웹 상의 영어 단어 사용빈도 및 난이도를 분류하는 기능들이 없거나 미비한 경우가 많았다. 그러므로 본 논문에서는 학습자가 웹 상의 영어문장들을 읽어들인 후에 그 단어들을 일정한 사전에 의거하여 사용 빈도에 따라 다섯 단계로 분류해 주고, 고유명사도 분류해 주며 고등학생 수준의 난이도를 세 단계로 분류해주는 웹브라우저를 개발하여 영어문장에 대한 학습자의 이해를 돕고자 하였다. 또한 분류된 영어 어휘에 대한 구체적인 의미 해설 기능을 추가하였다. 본 연구로 기존 영어학습 사이트와 영한번역 프로그램에서 부족하였던 단어 사용 빈도 및 난이도의 분류 기능을 향상시킴으로써, 웹 상의 영어자료들에 대한 이해를 증진시켜 보다 효과적인 영어학습이 이루어지기를 기대해 본다.
