역사와 지리 통합 단원 구성 방안 연구

Abstract

사회과는 학문의 목적 및 특성상 통합하여 가르치는 것이 바람직하나, 그간의 통합 시도는 영역의 한계를 극복하지 못하고 병렬적인 나열 수준에 머무른 것이 사실이다. 이로 인해 사회과 내에서의 통합에 대해 비판과 우려의 목소리가 높아지자 점차 사회과에서는 통합에 대해 소극적이고 조심스러운 태도를 보이게 되었다. 그러나 사회과에 있어서의 통합은 보다 폭넓은 시각의 형성과 각 영역에 대한 깊이 있는 이해를 이끌어내는 데 있어 매우 효과적이다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 점에 착안하여 사회과 내에서도 가장 통합이 필요한 역사와 지리를 연계하여 통합 단원을 구성해보고자 하였다. 역사와 지리의 주요 관심사인 시간과 공간적 맥락을 연구하는 것은 인간의 삶에 대한 이해를 넓힐 수 있고, 지리적 장소나 환경에 대한 인식은 역사 해석에 있어 중요한 단서를 제공하여 역사적 사실에 대한 이해와 공감을 이끌어낼 수 있기 때문이다. 이러한 역사와 지리의 통합 필요성을 인식하여 본 연구에서는 역사와 지리를 통합한 단원을 마련해보고자 하였으며, 이는 다음과 같은 과정으로 구성하였다. 첫째, 사회과 내에서 영역 간의 통합을 꾀한 구체적인 실천안이 제시된 선행 연구들을 검토하고, 2009 개정 한국사 교과서에서 일제 강점기와 관련한 단원에 대해 분석하였다. 둘째, 교과서 분석 결과 일제 강점기의 근대화 과정과 그에 따른 생활상에 대한 설명이 미흡하고, 식민 지배 정책 중 도시 개조와 관련한 내용이 언급되어 있지 않음을 확인하고 ‘식민 지배와 경성부’라는 주제로 이러한 부분을 보완하는 내용을 선정, 단원을 구성하였다. 또한, 경성부의 경관과 현재 서울의 경관을 연관 지어 과거의 역사가 현재에도 영향을 미칠 수 있음을 알 수 있도록 단원의 내용을 구성하였다. 셋째, 텍스트 서술 뿐 아니라 읽기 자료, 탐구 활동도 단원 구성에서 제시해 보았으며, 내용 뿐 아니라 방법적 측면에 있어서도 역사와 지리를 유기적으로 통합하는 데 주안점을 두었다. 본 연구에서는 이와 같은 역사와 지리의 통합적 인식을 통해 역사적 사실들에 대한 보다 깊이 있는 이해를 돕고, 역사적 사고력과 판단력의 신장을 도모하고자 하였다. 또한, 역사와 지리 통합 단원을 구성해 봄으로써, 통합된 지식을 어떠한 방식으로 학습에 적용시킬 수 있는지에 대한 단서를 제공해 보고자 하였다.;The integration movement in social studies has been a challenging process with difficulties in overcoming distinctive characteristics of each discipline. Still, the purpose of social studies subject is more effectively served when the issues and discussions are integrated with broader perspectives of many dimensions of social studies. This study intends to develop an integrated unit of History and Geography on the topic of transition of cityscape and social life in Seoul under Japanese Colonization and aims to effectively amplify students' understandings on the topic. This study is conducted in three phases. First, this study examined the precedent studies on constructing integrative units in social studies and analyzed chapters on Japanese Colonial Period in 2009 revised Korean History textbook. Secondly, as the analysis of the textbook reveals that the descriptions of change in social life and transition in urban landscape as a result of modernization and Japan's city reform policies are insufficient, this study constructed a chapter under the topic of "the Colonial Period and Kyungsungbu(京城府)." Connections were made between the cityscape of Kyungsungbu in the past and that of today's Seoul so that students can convey the idea of history as a continuously influencing factor of our present life. Thirdly, reading materials and students' activities are inserted as supplementary materials. Much effort was put into developing strategies so that the contents of History and Geography are organically integrated in the activities as well as in the texts.
