학습만화를 활용한 환경수업이 초등학생의 환경건강 지식 및 실천 의지에 미치는 영향

Abstract

In recent times, as quality of life improved, health risks caused by environmental problems have raised many concerns. For this reason, focus on environmental health has been increasing. However, despite the awareness, people lack valid perception and knowledge about environmental health. Education is the most important medium to enhance awareness and knowledge about environmental health. Thus, in this study, we develop and apply educational programs using cartoons to cultivate knowledge and willingness to apply environmental health practices. After adopting learning topics and contents from elementary school curriculum and environmental health related references, we developed educational cartoon program on environmental health. The experiment and the control group subjects of this program were 63 students from 4th grade division of the Gyeonggido E elementary school. The experiment group undertook the environmental class that uses educational cartoons and the control group had general environmental class. After performing pre and post tests, the results are analyzed by ANCOVA using SPSS 15.0. The result is as follows: First, it showed that environmental health knowledge of the experiment group was significantly higher than the control group (p<.01). Especially, educational cartoons are effective in VDT syndrome and sick house syndrome that are unfamiliar to students (p<.01). Thus educational cartoons are useful to teach new or difficult perception. Second, it showed that environmental health practice will of the experiment group was significantly higher than the control group (p<.01). Specially, it showed significant differences in VDT syndrome and sick house syndrome (p<.05; p<.01). Thus educational cartoons are useful to develop the practice will because they help students to have interest and feel sympathy. And it showed that girls' environmental health practice will about obesity and eco-friendly products which are familiar to girls were higher than boys' in the experiment group(p<.05). Thus educational cartoons are effective to cultivate girls' practice will because cartoons can stimulate girls' sympathy. Lastly, students in the experiment group showed high satisfaction and they preferred cartoon drawing activity.;최근 환경에 의해 발생하는 건강 문제가 사회적 관심을 받으며, 환경건강(environmental health)에 대한 교육의 필요성이 높아지고 있다. 환경건강에 대한 개념은 초등학생에게 어렵기 때문에 내용을 효과적으로 전달할 수 있는 학습 방법이 필요하다. 학습만화는 학습에 대한 흥미를 유발하며, 어려운 개념을 쉽게 전달하는 효과를 가지고 있기 때문에 환경건강에 대한 지식과 실천 의지를 함양하기에 적합하다. 따라서 본 연구는 학습만화를 활용한 교육 프로그램을 개발하고 초등학생들에게 적용하여 그 효과를 알아보고자 한다. 학습만화 프로그램은 초등학생의 흥미를 고려하여 또래의 주인공과 미지의 세계를 소재로 사용하였으며, 초등 교육과정과 사회적으로 이슈가 되고 있는 환경건강 내용을 바탕으로 비만, 아토피, VDT증후군, 새집증후군, 친환경 생활용품을 학습 주제로 선정하여 개발하였다. 경기도 소재 초등학교 4학년 2학급 63명을 대상으로 실험집단에는 학습만화를 활용한 환경수업을, 통제집단은 전통적 수업을 재량활동시간에 5차시 동안 실시하였다. 수업의 효과를 검증하기 위해 지식 검사지와 실천 의지 검사지를 개발하였으며, 사전, 사후 검사를 실시하였다. 연구 결과는 SPSS 15.0을 이용하여 공변량분석(ANCOVA)을 통해 분석하였다. 본 연구의 결과 및 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 환경건강 학습만화 프로그램을 적용한 결과, 전통적 수업과 비교하여 환경건강 지식이 유의미하게 향상되었으며(p<.01), 특히 학습주제 중 학생들에게 생소한 VDT증후군과 새집증후군에 유의미한 효과를 보였다(p<.01). 따라서 학습만화는 초등학생에게 새롭고 어려운 개념을 전달하는데 효과적으로 활용될 수 있다. 둘째, 학습만화를 활용한 수업이 전통적 수업과 비교하여 환경건강 실천 의지에 유의미한 효과를 보였다(p<.01). 특히 VDT증후군과 새집증후군의 실천 의지가 유의미하게 향상되었다(p<.05, p<.01). 따라서 학습만화는 쉽게 접하지 못한 환경건강 주제에 대하여 학생들이 관심을 갖고 공감하도록 돕기 때문에 실천 의지를 함양하는데 효과적으로 활용될 수 있다. 또한 성별에 따른 학습만화의 효과를 분석한 결과, 여학생의 환경건강 실천 의지가 남학생 보다 유의미하게 향상되었다(p<.05). 특히 여학생에게 친근한 학습주제인 비만과 친환경 생활용품에 유의미한 효과를 보였다(p<.05). 따라서 학습만화는 여학생이 관심을 가지고 있는 학습주제에 대한 실천 의지를 함양하는데 효과적으로 활용될 수 있다. 셋째, 환경건강 학습만화 프로그램을 활용한 수업은 평균 4.25점으로 학생들의 높은 만족도를 보였으며, 특히 만화그리기 활동에 대한 학생들의 선호도가 높았다. 위 결과로 볼 때, 학습만화를 활용한 환경건강 프로그램은 초등학생에게 어려운 개념을 전달하는데 효과적이며, 환경건강에 관심을 갖고 공감대를 형성하여 실천 의지를 함양하는데 적합한 프로그램으로 판단된다.
