강화도 지역의 현장학습을 통한 향토사 교수학습 방안

Abstract

우리는 역사를 배움으로써 과거의 사실을 토대로 현재를 바르게 이해할 수 있다. 지나온 과거를 제대로 알지 못하면 지금 서 있는 자신의 참모습을 찾지 못하게 된다. 즉, 역사는 개인과 민족의 정체성을 확립하는 데 매우 유용하다. 이러한 역사학습의 목적에 입각해 봤을 때 먼저 자신을 둘러싼 세계를 이해하기 위한 향토사 학습의 필요성이 제기된다. 향토사 학습은 자기 고장의 역사를 이해하게 하는 과정으로 자신의 정체성을 확인하고, 나아가서는 다양한 문화와 가치를 수용할 수 있는 태도를 기르는 과정이라 볼 수 있다. 전통 문화의 심층적 이해를 통해 문화적 정체성 확립과 더불어 각각의 다양한 문화를 소중하게 바라볼 수 있는 공동체 의식의 확보가 가능해 지기 때문이다. 이때 향토사 학습은 주변에 있는 친숙한 향토자료를 토대로 하기에 학습자들의 직접적이고 실천적인 경험을 통해 지식을 확인하고 이해하는 현장학습을 활용할 때 효과적이라 할 수 있다. 이는 특색 있는 교육, 다양한 경험을 강조하는 2009 개정 교육과정의 창의적 체험활동 시간에 적용하는데 적합한 학습 방법으로, 따라서 본 연구에서는 창의적 체험활동 시간을 활용한 향토사 학습을 학교 ·교사·학생의 요구와 필요를 반영하여 적용해 보고자 한다. 고대의 자취부터 근대의 역사까지 모두를 어우르고 있는 강화도 지역을 중심으로 하여 향토사 수업 방안을 마련하고자 하였다. 즉 본 연구의 주안점은 강화도 지역의 현장학습을 활용한 향토사 학습의 교수학습 방안의 모색이라 할 수 있다. 본 연구를 위해 먼저 향토사 및 역사교육과 관련한 이론적 분야를 고찰하였다. 향토사의 의미와 교육적 기능을 살피고, 실제 2009 개정 교육과정에서의 적용 방안을 모색해 보았다. 또한 방법적 측면에서의 현장학습의 의미와 교육적 기능을 살핀 후, 현장학습을 활용한 향토사 학습 방안을 마련하기 위하여 모형을 구축하였다. 다음으로 강화도 지역의 교사와 학생들을 대상으로 향토사에 대한 관심도, 향토사 수업에 대한 인지도, 지역문화재 인지도, 효과적인 향토사 학습 방안 등에 관한 설문조사를 실시하여 향토사에 대한 실태를 파악(201.4)하였다. 강화도 향토사 연간계획표에 입각하여 교수 학습 과정 안을 제시하고 실제 현장학습 실시 결과 사후검사(2010. 5)를 실시하여 그 결과를 사전검사와 비교하였다. 이상의 조사내용과 방법으로 연구한 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻을 수 있었다. 첫째, 강화 역사관과 강화도 역사 유적지 방문 전 조별학습 과제를 제시함으로써 사전학습의 과정을 통해 지역의 역사와 문화재에 대해 많은 관심을 갖는 긍정적인 변화를 가져올 수 있었다. 둘째, 교실수업보다는 지역 박물관과 역사 유적지 현장학습이 역사의 흔적을 직접 답사하여 조사하고, 눈으로 확인함으로 향토사 학습에 대한 흥미를 유발할 수 있었으며, 향토애를 고양시킬 수 있었다. 셋째, 토론학습의 사후 학습 과정을 거쳐 현장학습을 통해 배운 내용을 정리·확인할 수 있었으며, 지식을 구조화시켜 1회성이 그치는 경험이 되지 않을 수 있었다. 본 연구를 통하여 얻어진 결과를 토대로 하여 다음 몇 가지를 시사점으로 제언을 하고자 한다. 첫째, 향토사 수업을 위해 기본적으로 수업시수가 확보되어야 한다. 향토사 현장학습의 날이 연간계획 안에 입안되어 있어야 체계적인 향토사 학습의 적용이 가능할 것이다. 창의적 체험활동 시간을 확보하여 현장학습 시간으로 활용할 수 있도록 해야 한다. 둘째, 현장학습을 통한 학습효과를 얻기 위해서는 사전에 철저한 준비과정을 거치도록 하며 사후에 정리·평가·반성의 시간을 통해 학생의 관심, 흥미, 참여도를 제고시켜야 한다. 셋째, 각 지역의 향토사 교과서나 보조 교재가 개발되어야 할 것이다. 교사의 향토사 학습에 대한 필요성과 의욕을 가지고 있더라도 실질적 적용이 어렵게 만드는 요인 중 하나로 중등교육과정에서도 공식화된 교과서나 보조교재가 개발 ·보급되어져야 할 것이다.;History is a useful study to establish individual and national identities. Considering the objectives of learning history, it is necessary to learn local history in order to understand the world around students. Learning local history is a process to understand the history of a local district, to ascertain one's identity and to raise an attitude to accept diverse cultural aspects and values. Learning local history is based on familiar local resources, so it is effective for field trips where learners' direct and practical experiences are used to confirm their knowledge and understanding. This is an appropriate learning method applicable to creative experience and activity class and characteristic education stressed in 2009 revised curriculum. Accordingly, the present study is to apply local history learning using creative experience and activity class by reflecting needs and demands of schools, teachers and students. The present study developed a plan to teach local history around Ganghwado region, which assumes ancient traces down to modern history. That is, the focus of this study is to use a field trip to Ganghwado region to seek for a teaching-learning plan for local history. For the purpose of this study, theoretical aspects relative to local history and history education were considered first. Then, the meaning and educational functions of local history were reviewed, and its applicability to 2009 revised curriculum was sought. Also, the meaning and educational functions of field trips from the perspective of methods were examined to build a model helping develop a plan to learn local history using field trips. Next, to find out actual conditions of local history learning, a questionnaire survey was conducted with teachers and students in Ganghwado region wth regard to their interest in local history, awareness of local history class and local cultural heritage and effective methods to learn local history. Based on the annual plan of Ganghwado local history, a teaching and learning plan was presented, and an actual field trip was performed followed by a post-test (May 2010), the result of which was compared with that of the pre-test. The findings of this study boil down to the following conclusions. First, through a pre-learning process by presenting assignments to each group before visiting Ganghwa History Hall and historic sites in Ganghwado, a positive change was found that students became much interested in local history and cultural heritage. Second, instead of classroom teaching and learning, the field trip to local museum and historic sites helped explore and experience historic traces in person, inciting interest in learning local history and promoting local patriotism. Third, through post-learning process including discussion, reports, history paper presentation and role playing, students could summarize and confirm what they learned in the field trip, which structuralized knowledge preventing the learning from ending up a one-time experience.
