유치원의 흥미영역 설치에 관한 연구

Abstract

Interest centers are a basic environmental requirement in early childhood education, and function which give more effective learning to young children through play. Interest centers are also where young children have most of their educational experiences in the preschools. These are why the efficient installation of interest centers are very important. Accordingly, it would be meaningful to see if the interest centers at Korean preschools are operated from the educational point of view rather than merely for appearance's sake. The purpose of this study was not only to find the degree of understanding of the concept, value, and necessity of the interest centers on the part of the teachers, but also to understand the present state of the installation of interest centers, thus there were 4 research problems included in this study. Research method used in this study were a survey and a case study. In the survey the researcher used written questionnaire including 24 specific questions based on 4 research problems. The questionnaire was sent to each of 299 preschools in Seoul by mail, among which 155 completed forms were collected. The statistical method used here in order to analyze collected date were percentage and the mean value by marking. In the case study, 6 preschools were chosen according to the establishment forms. The researcher visited the preschools and studied the layout of the interest centers, and the materials and equipments provided in each center. The main results of the questionnaire according to the 4 research problems were as follows: 1. The degree of understanding of the interest centers on the part of the teachers was generally high. 2. The present state of the installation of interest centers was that more than 90 percent of the preschools consulted installed only 5 centers in common. Therefore, common centers were of small number. 3. It revealed an undesirable tendency in the standard of arrangement and the method of section teachers have. 4. It revealed a very desirable tendency in the teachers' role at the interest centers. Results of the case study showed that 4 of the 6 preschools studied had inadequate facilities and equipments. Particularly speaking, on view of the space, type, and arrangement, all were inapproprite and inefficient. And the types and quantities of the materials and equipments were not sufficient.;흥미영역은 유아교육의 환경요인의 하나로서, 놀이를 통해 학습이 보다 효과적으로 이루어지게 하는 기능을 한다. 또, 유아들이 가장 많은 교육경험을 하는 장(場)이 되므로, 효율적인 흥미영역의 설치는 매우 중요하다. 따라서, 우리나라에 있어서 흥미영역이 환경 미화의 수준을 벗어나 교육적인 관점에서 활용되고 있는가를 밝혀보는 것은 의의가 있다. 이러한 취지에 따라 본 연구에서는 흥미영역의 개념·가치·설치 필요성 등에 대한 교사의 인식 정도와 흥미영역이 실제로 설치되고 있는 현황을 파악하는데 그 목적을 두고, 질문지 조사와 사례 조사를 실시하였다. 질문지 조사에서는 설정된 4가지 연구 문제를 중심으로 본 연구자가 작성한 총24개 문항의 검사 도구를 사용했고, 서울시내 전유치원을 대상으로 하여 299개 유치원에 각 1부씩 질문지를 발송, 회수된 155부를 백분율과 점수화에 의한 평균치 산출 등으로 처리하였다. 사례조사에서는 설립형태별로 6개 유치원을 직접 방문, 배치상황 및 교구의 종류를 조사하였다 질문지를 설정된 연구문제별로 분석한 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 흥미영역에 관한 교사의 인식은 대체적으로 잘 되고 있는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 둘째, 흥미영역 설치의 실제 상황에서는 응답 유치원의 90%이상에 설치된 영역이 모두 5개 영역으로서, 유치원 전체적으로 공통적인 설치영역은 많지 않은 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 교사들이 가지고 있는 흥미영역의 배치기준과 영역별 구분방법은 별로 바람직하지 못한 방법인 것으로 밝혀졌다. 넷째, 흥미영역 내에서의 교사의 역할은 상당히 바람직한 경향을 나타내고 있었다. 사례조사 결과는 6개의 유치원중 두군데를 제외하고는 공간사정, 교구의 종류 및 수량, 설치된 흥미영역의 종류 및 배치상황 등이 모두, 대단히 적절하지 못한 것으로 분석되었다.
