사회적 신뢰가 사회적 딜레마상황의 협력에 미치는 영향 및 사회과교육에의 함의

Abstract

본 연구에서는 사회적 딜레마 상황에서 인간이 호혜적인 행동 또는 협력을 할 수 있다는 전제 아래 사회적 자본(social capital)으로서의 신뢰(trust)가 협력에 미치는 영향력을 실증적으로 고찰하였다. 기존 경제학적 인간(homo economicus)의 가정에서 합리적 개인은 집단을 위해 협력적인 행동을 하기보다는 자신의 이익과 효용을 극대화하기 위한 행동을 하게 된다. 그러나 경제학의 가정과 모순되게 개인과 사회의 이익이 상충하는 사회적 딜레마 상황에서 개인이 자신의 효용을 극대화하기보다는 협력적인 행동을 하는 것이 실험적인 연구뿐만 아니라 일상생활 속에서도 발견되곤 한다. 본 연구에서는 협력적인 행동을 유발하는데 사회적 자본 요소인 신뢰(trust)가 주요한 매개체로 작용할 수 있을 것이라는 이론적인 예측을 바탕으로 연구를 시작하였다. 서울소재 여자 고등학생 약 450여 명을 대상으로 사회적 딜레마 상황에서 개인의 협력수준을 측정하기 위한 실험을 진행하였으며, 학생들의 사회적 신뢰를 설문지 기입 방식으로 측정하여 신뢰가 협력을 유발하는데 유의미한 변수인지 알아보고자 하였다. 개인의 협력 수준을 측정하기 위하여 개인적 이해관계와 집단적 이해관계 간의 갈등이 발생하는 사회적 딜레마 상황을 제시하였다. 사회적 딜레마 상황은 지역공동체의 공유자원 관리에 관한 까르데나스(Cardenas, 2004)의 ‘공유지의 비극’ 실험 모형을 바탕으로 고등학생에게 맞게끔 구성하였으며 제시된 상황에서의 협력 수준을 개인별로 측정하였다. 한편 신뢰와 호혜성은 사회적 자본의 기초이자 민주공동체를 건설하기 위한 전제조건으로 학생들의 시민성(citizenship) 함양을 도모하려는 사회과 교육의 목표와 깊은 연관성을 가진다. 이에 본 연구는 고등학생의 사회적 신뢰와 사회적 딜레마 상황에서의 협력 정도가 사회과 학업성취도 및 민주시민으로서의 바람직한 태도 변인과 유의미한 관계를 가질 것이라는 가설을 바탕으로 사회과교육과 신뢰, 협력의 문제를 종합적으로 논의하고자 하였다. 본 연구의 주된 연구문제는 다음과 같다. 1. 사회적 신뢰는 사회적 딜레마 상황에서 협력 수준에 어떠한 영향을 미치는가? 2. 사회적 딜레마 상황인 ‘공유지의 비극’에 대한 개념 인지 여부가 딜레마 상황에서의 협력 수준에 어떠한 영향을 미치는가? 3. 사회적 신뢰는 가정배경 및 사회과교육 목표 변인과 어떠한 연관성을 갖고 있으며 사회과 교육에 시사하는 바는 무엇인가? 설문과 실험결과는 통계 프로그램 SPSS 14.0에서 상관분석(correlation analysis), 요인분석(factor analysis), 다중회귀분석(multiple regression), t검정(t-test), 분산분석(one-way ANOVA)을 바탕으로 분석을 실행하였다. 분석 결과 신뢰가 협력을 낳으리라는 선행연구의 결과와 마찬가지로 불특정 다수에 대한 일반신뢰와 정치참여구조신뢰가 사회적 딜레마 상황에서의 협력에 긍정적인 영향력을 미치는 것을 확인할 수 있었으며, 사회적 딜레마 상황인 ‘공유지의 비극’에 대한 개념을 숙지하고 있는 그룹이 그렇지 않은 그룹에 비해 평균적인 협력수준이 높다는 결과가 나타났다. 신뢰가 사회적 자본의 주된 요인으로서 간주되는 점을 보았을 때 사회적 자본으로서의 신뢰가 가정배경의 영향을 받는지에 대하여 검증하였으나 신뢰는 아버지의 학력, 가정의 경제력, 종교와 같은 가정배경요인과 직접적인 연관이 없는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 사회과 목표변인인 책임감, 관용성 및 전학년도 사회교과 성적은 신뢰에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 끝으로 학습자의 사회교과 학업성취도에 따라 신뢰, 사회교과 목표변인인 책임감 및 관용성이 어떻게 변할지 분석한 결과 사회교과 성적 하위권 학생이 상위권 학생에 비해 일반신뢰, 정치참여구조신뢰, 책임감, 관용성이 떨어지는 것으로 나타났다.;This study empirically considered the influence of trust as social capital to cooperation on the basis of the possibility that human can do a reciprocal act or cooperation in the social dilemma. In the former economics‘ premise of homo econimicus, a rational person acts according to the principle of maximum utility rather than considers the cooperative act to a mass first. However, on the contrary to the premise of economics, it is easily found in reality as well as experimental study that a person acts cooperatively rather than simply maximize his own effectiveness. On the basis of the suggestion that trust as social capital is a major medium to cause cooperative action, an experiment on the cooperative level in the social dilemma was done with highschool students. The situation of a social dilemma was formed by the Cardenas' model of common property resource(2004) on managing common property resource of a local community. Besides, this study focused on the fact that, on the perspective of social education, the social trust and the cooperative level in a social dilemma of highschool students have meaningful relation to the achievement in social studies and the citizenship. According the result of analysis, like the result of previous studies in which trust gave birth to cooperation, it was confirmed that the interpersonal trust, especially the trust on the unsteady majority of general people have a certain amount of influence on the cooperation in a social dilemma. However, the objective variation, responsibility and tolerance, as well as family background, had no meaningful influence. As trust regards as the primary factor of social capital, the mutual influences between trust and family background is verified. Though, trust has no direct relation with the family backround such as scholarly attainment of father, monthly income and religion. Finally, according to the analysis on the relation between learner's achievement on social studies in school and trust variation or other social studies' objective variation, the student who get low achievement in social studies have less general trust, trust on politically participating structure, responsibility and tolerance than those who get high achievement. This study confirmed that the social trust has a certain amount of influence on cooperation in a social dilemma and that trust and cooperation have relation with responsibility and tolerance in objective of social education. Hereafter the more research should be done about how social trust and cooperation will be improved through classes on social studies.
