1930년대의 소설문학의 특성

Abstract

우리나라가 1910년대부터 이루어진 서구화에 의한 근대문학의 형성은 1930년대에 이르러 성숙되었다. 갑자기 밀어닥친 서구화의 영향으로 갈팡질팡 제 갈피를 잡지 못하던 우리 문학계는 1930년대에 들어서야 비로서 문학다운 체계가 세워지는데 이 당시 극심한 일제의 탄압정책에 의해 ‘카프’ 가 해체되고 순수 문예 동인회인 ‘구인회’ 와 그 뒤를 이어 채만식을 비롯한 여러 작가들에 의한 풍자문학이 대두되어, 이 시기는 향토적, 토속적 작가군과 풍자적 작가의 두 군으로 나뉘게 된다. 이와같은 시대적 특성을 지닌 1930년대는 또한 문학적으로도 위로는 우리 고대문학의 영향권에서 아직 완전히 벗어나지 못했고 아래로는 거센 서구의 문물 때문에 과도기적인 성격을 띄게 되는데 첫째는, 그 작품세계에서, 둘째는 등장인물들의 성격에서, 셋째는 그 작품의 묘사성에서 우리는 고대소설과의 전통적 공통성을 지적할 수가 있는 것이다. 첫째, 작품세계에서는 우리 고유의 향토성과 또한 고대소설, 특히 박지원의 ‘양반전’ , ‘호질’ 등에서 볼 수 있는 사회구조적 모순성을 거의 노골적으로 풍자했다는 점. 둘째, 이 시기의 어느 소설들을 막론하고 등장인물들의 성격을 분석하면, 그 이면에 한국적 민족성이 짙게 깔려있다는 점이고, 셋째, 원래 감수성과 예술성이 강한 우리 민족들이 일상언어속에서나 고대소설 등에서, 다른 민족의 문학에 비해 유달리 눈에 띄는 형용사 등 수식어의 다양한 구사 등을 들 수 있다. 또하나, 이 당시 작가들의 구성적인 면에서나 어휘 구사력에 있어, 우리의 전통문학의 기반 위에 서구의 문물을 적절히 소화 한 시대적 특성으로서 이룩해 놓은 문학적 업적을 발견할 때 비록 연구업적으로서는 매우 빈약하나 연구자로서 매우 보람을 느낀다. ;In the thesis, the characteristics of the novel literature in the 1930's are discussed especially for the works by the three representative writers; Kim Yoo Jeong, Lee Hyo Seok, and Chae Man Sik. The works in these days have transitions properties, in the world of the works characteristics of the casts and the description of the works. We can point out the common features embedded in their works as follows; 1. In the world of the works there appear our peculiar local color and the inconsistency in the social structure which can be found in our ancient novels where the inconsistencies were satirized nakedly. In most of the works by Lee and Kim, the themes consist of rural life and local customs. And they describe vividly the stories about the poor, miserable and plain farmers. The actions and words of the honest and dull-witted people are the elements of the humor and closely related to the satire which can be seen openly in the works by Chae. 2. From the analysis of the characteristics of the costs, we can see the national characteristics of Koreans spread out deeply inside any works in these days. 3. We can easily find the diverse command of the modifiers such as adjective and adverbs which are common in everyday life of our Koreans or in the ancient Korean novels. They used many slangs and local words in their sentences to animated and fresh the atmospheres of the stories. The writers in these days assimilated the western civilization properly on the basis of our traditional literature in the aspects of organization of the capabilities to use the vocabularies freely.
