바이올린 중급 과정 지도에서의 에튀드와 스즈키의 적용 방안

Abstract

바이올린 교육에 있어서 중급의 단계는 초급에서 다져진 탄탄한 기초를 바탕으로 더 좋은 음악을 만들기 위해 도약하는 시기이며 음악적인 환경에서 다양한 연주 테크닉을 터득해야 하는 중요한 시기이다. 그러나 이러한 테크닉을 배울 수 있는 에튀드에 관한 정보와 자료의 미비로 바이올린 교사들은 교재를 선별하는데 어려움을 겪고 있다. 따라서 이 연구는 중급 이상의 바이올린 연주곡의 교육에 앞서 그 곡들을 연주하기 위해 선행되어져야 할 기본적인 테크닉 교육에 실제적인 도움을 주고, 바이올린 교사들로 하여금 학습 상황에 맞는 연습곡을 적절히 선택할 수 있도록 도움을 주는데 목적이 있다. 연구를 위해서 에튀드의 개념과 역사 그리고 각 교재들의 특징과 음악적인 위치를 서술하였다. 본문에서는 현재 우리나라 중급 바이올린 교육에 가장 많이 쓰이고 있는 에튀드 교재인 호만(Hohmann)과 카이저(Kayser) 교재를 선택하여 이 에튀드들의 음악적 가치와 각 곡들이 쓰여진 목적을 밝히기 위해 왼손 테크닉, 양손 테크닉, 그리고 오른손 테크닉, 이렇게 크게 세 부분으로 분류하여 분석 목록을 작성하고 이에 따라 분석하였다. 또 에튀드가 실제 연주곡에 도움이 되는 방법을 모색하고자 이 분석된 목록을 토대로 스즈키(Suzuki)교재와 연계 시켜 연주곡에 활용할 수 있는 예를 보여주었다. 에튀드 교재의 분석 결과 호만은 학생들이 어렵게만 느낄 수 있는 에튀드들을 스케일을 먼저 연습하고 교사와 함께 이중주 에튀드를 연습하는 단계적인 방법으로 구성되어 있다. 카이저는 에튀드 작곡 시기인 19세기뿐만 아니라 18세기의 바이올린 작품에서 필요로 하는 대부분의 테크닉도 포함하고 있어 연주곡을 위한 필수 선행 과정임을 알 수 있다. 또한 하나의 에튀드가 집중적으로 한 가지 테크닉을 연습할 수 있으며 음악적인 면도 함께 연습할 수 있도록 작곡되어 있다. 에튀드와 연주곡 연계 결과 스즈키 작품을 연주하기 전에 그 작품에 맞는 에튀드를 통한 선행 학습이 필요하며 그렇기에 적절한 에튀드의 선택이 매우 중요하다는 결론에 도달했다. 에튀드를 학습하면서 연주 작품 안에 있는 테크닉들을 미리 배우고 나서 스즈키 연주곡을 접하게 되면 그렇지 않았을 경우와 비교하여 훨씬 효율적으로 연주곡에 접근하게 될 것으로 예상된다. 바이올린 교사는 학생들이 스즈키 연주곡에서 테크닉적으로 어려운 문제에 부딪혔을 때 어떤 에튀드를 연습해야 할지를 분석 목록을 통하여 찾아보고 학생들을 가르치는데 적용할 수 있을 것이다. 끝으로 중급 바이올린 교육에 활용할 수 있는 더욱 다양한 에튀드들에 대한 연구가 많이 이루어져 바이올린 교사가 교재를 잘 이해하여 실제 바이올린 수업의 현장에서 사용할 수 있게 되기를 기대한다.;In the study of violin, the intermediate level is a phase in which students should strive to improve their musical skills based on the solid foundation formed at the beginner's level, and also a variety of techniques must be mastered in a musical setting. However, due to the lack of information and materials on etudes enabling an effective learning of such techniques, violin teachers are experiencing difficulties in selecting teaching materials. As such, the purpose of this study is to provide practical assistance and guidance for violin teachers in teaching basic techniques which should precede the teaching of violin music pieces and selecting appropriate exercises suitable for the teaching environment. For the purposes of this study, the concept, history, characteristics and the significance of various etudes have been reviewed. Then, Hohmann and Kayser etudes, which are most widely used in the teaching of intermediate-level violin students in Korea, have been selected and analyzed by cataloging such etudes under the three main categories - left-hand, both-hands and right-hand techniques - in order to ascertain the musical value of these etudes and the purpose for which they were written. Moreover, in an effort to explore how etudes can provide practical assistance in the performance of music pieces, Suzuki method books have been matched with selected etudes based on such etude catalogues. As a result of the analysis of etudes, it was noted that Hohmann etudes are designed in such a way that students first practice scale exercises and then practice ensemble etudes with their teachers, thereby creating an ongoing interest in the study of violin. Meanwhile, Kayser etudes contained most of the techniques required for violin compositions written not only in the 19th century in which Kayser etudes were written, but also in the 18th century. It indicates that such etudes are an essential prerequisite to music pieces. Furthermore, Kayser etudes are designed in such a way that the practice of violin can be focused on one specific technique while also practicing the musical aspect. As a result of an conjunctive analysis of etudes and Suzuki method books, a conclusion has been reached that prior to learning Suzuki method books, a student is required to perform a preliminary study of etudes suited to such method books, and that it is highly important to select the right etudes for such purposes. It is anticipated that a student would find Suzuki method books easier to learn after first mastering the techniques contained therein. When a student encounters technical difficulties in learning Suzuki method books, it is now possible for a teacher to look up the etude catalogues to select and apply an appropriate etude to be used in the teaching of that student. I hope that many more studies will be conducted with respect to a greater range of etudes that can be used in the teaching of intermediate-level violin students so that violin teachers can gain a better understanding of the teaching materials and therefore, make a more effective use of them in their field of teaching.
