영화를 사료로서 활용한 수업모델 연구

Abstract

우리 사회에서 영화라는 매체는 하나의 대중문화로서 자리잡고 있으며 사람들에게 많은 영향을 끼치고 있다. 교육적 측면에서도 영화가 학생들의 학습내용의 이해를 돕는 수업의 도구로서 효율적인 도구가 될 수 있다. 역사교육에서도 영화를 역사적 사실에 대한 이해를 돕기 위한 도구로서 수업에 활용하여 학생들의 역사에 대한 이해를 증진시킬 수 있다는 것이 국내 연구들을 통해 증명되었다. 그러나 영화를 사료로서 분석하는 수업에 대한 연구는 시도되지 못하였다. 역사 영화들이 역사적 사실을 다룬다 할지라도 필연적으로 오류가 개입된다. 이러한 영화 속의 오류들을 학생들이 무비판적으로 역사적 사실로 받아들이게 될 경우 학생들의 역사이해에 악영향을 끼칠 수 있다. 이러한 문제를 방지하기 위해서는 교사가 학생들이 비판적인 안목으로 영화를 볼 수 있도록 지도하는 것이 필요하다. 그리고 영화를 사료로서 파악하여 분석하는 수업이 그 대안이 된다. 따라서 본 연구자는 외국의 연구들을 분석한 것을 바탕으로 고등학교 세계사 교육과정의 신항로개척을 주제로 학생들의 비판적 사고력, 지식활용의 측면을 고려한 우리나라의 실정에 맞는 영화활용 수업모델을 개발하였다. 그리고 개발한 수업모델의 효율성을 검증하기 위하여 실제 수업에 적용하였다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 기존의 영화를 활용한 역사수업과는 달리 역사지식을 적용하여 성취감을 획득하고, 능동적으로 학습에 참여하는 학습태도를 배양할 수 있는 긍정적인 효과를 확인할 수 있는 수업이었다. 둘째, 역사영화도 수업의 자료로서 활용될 수 있으며 하나의 사료로서 비판의 대상이 될 수 있다는 것을 깨닫게 하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다. 셋째, 학생들이 ‘옥의 티 찾기’ 수업을 통해 학생들의 역사수업에 대한 관심이 높아졌고 역사를 재미있는 과목으로 느끼게 되었다. 넷째, '옥의 티 찾기' 수업을 한 후에는 역사적 관점에서 사실에 비추어 비판하면서 보고자 하는 태도의 변화를 확인할 수 있었다. 다섯째, 영화분석지에서 제시하고 있는 '중심인물의 파악, 갈등구조 파악, 캐릭터 비교, 유의해서 보아야 할 점' 등이 학생들이 쉽게 오류를 찾을 수 있도록 도움을 주었으며, 이러한 수업에서는 체계적인 영화분석지가 필수적이라고 할 수 있다. 본 연구를 통해 본 연구자는 영화를 사료로서 활용한 수업이 역사수업에 대한 학생들의 관심과 흥미를 높이는 데 기여를 할 수 있는 수업임을 알 수 있었다. 그리고 역사교육의 고차적 차원의 목표인 가치 및 태도의 변화, 비판적 사고력의 증대에 있어서도 유용한 교육방법이 될 수 있음을 확인하였다.;As films become one of the public cultures, many people are affected by films. Films can be an effective classroom device which helps students to understand the learning contents. In history education, it is widely understood that films are the effective device improving the students’ comprehension about history by various studies. However, these studies have not considered the aspect of using historical knowledge of student and the method to improve the ability of viewing films critically by analyzing films as historical sources. Although history films treat the historical facts, they inevitably have errors. If students uncritically take these errors to be truths, films would have a bad effect on students in understanding history. It is necessary for teachers to guide students in viewing the films with critical sense. The lessons organized by analyzing films as historical sources would be the alternatives. Therefore, the author developed a working model of history teaching using films as historical sources and applied this to the 36 high school students to verify the effectiveness. The findings are follows: Firstly, the history teaching using films as historical sources could improve students’ active learning attitude and students could obtain achievement. Secondly, the history teaching using films as historical sources verified the application of the history films as a teaching device. Thirdly, the history teaching using films as historical sources made students have strong interest in history. Fourthly, history teaching using films as historical sources changed students’ attitude to view films critically based on the historical truth. Fifthly, the film analysis sheets helped students to find the errors easily and these as essential in instruction. In this paper, the author has found that history teaching using films as historical sources may contribute to improve student’s interest in history class and in achieving the high level goals in history education.
