Abstract
1. This study is to grasp the extent of the effect that girl scout activities have on children's social development focusing on the development of their service mindedness in elementary school, and also to find out factors affecting the development of service mindedness. Especially its main purpose is to give some degree of influence to Korean Girl scout activities by analysing their programs designed to promote the spirit of service which is based on Brownie Scout's Slogan-"Be Helpful". 2. The problems of research are : 1) The analysis of variables that affect the development of sociality and service mindedness of children. 2) The extent of changes of sociality and service-mindedness of children that parent and teachers have watched. 3) The correlation between the developing level of sociality or service-mindedness and the variables such as motivation of joining the Brownie Scout, the service attitude, and the degree of satisfaction with the scout activities. 3. The methods used in this research were to study the related literrratures, and to examine, analyse and to compare the answers of the written questionnaires that had been sent out to 171 Brownie girls in the 4th, 5th, 6th grades with those of 296 regular children to test their sociality and service-mindedness. This also presents the materials drawn from the reaction of 53 parents, 30 Scout leaders, and 39 teachers about the Scout activities. 4. This research was carried out from July to November, 1967. 5. Five limitations are presented. 6. Theoretical background. In Chapter 2 the concept of general sociality, the social development in childhood, the characteristics of the childhood sociality, the concept of service-mindedness and the educational programs for the service-mindedness of Brownie Scout have been scrutinized. 7. The results can be summarized as follows : We can regard the achievement scores of Elementary School subjects matters as a variable that affects the development of sociality. The factors that affect the developing level of servicemindness were the difference in their achievement scores of school subjects matters, their grades and cultural facilities in their homes. And the motivation of their joining the Scout and the attitude of their willingness for service proved significant. On the other hand the changes in the attitude of the sociality and service-mindedness in their homes proved a desirable factor. 8. Proposition 1) A better way of parent and teacher cooperation with Scout leaders has to be studied for scout activities to be more effective in helping the development of children's service-mindedness. 2) Careful studies have to be carried out to test the influence of the Scout leaders' role, that promotes the children's service-mindedness. 3) It is necessary to analyse the scout programs to see whether brownie Scout's service activity programs are made properly to fit into the intellectual and social maturity stages of the children in this country. 4) Ways should be sought for children with economic limitations to be able to join Drowrie Scout groups if they desire to do so. 5) There is a great demand to develop a tool for measuring the Sociality and service-mindedness of children more reliably and validly.;1. 國民學校에 있어서 걸 스카우트 活動이 兒童의 社會性 및 奉仕性 發達에 어떠한 影響을 주고 있는가를 알아보고, 그 변인들을 찾아보고자 하였다. 특히 브라우니 표어인 -돕자=의 奉仕精神을 위한 實踐行動을 分析해 봄으로써 우리나라 걸 스카우트 活動에 조그마한 方向이라도 제시함이 주된 目的이었다. 2. 硏究의 問題로는 1) 兒動들의 社會性과 奉仕性 發達에 影響을 주는 변인 分析 2) 父母·敎師가 관찰한 兒動의 社會性 및 奉仕性의 變化程度 2) 브라우니 스카우트에 입단한 동기, 奉仕하는 態度, 스카우트에 대한 만족도 등의 제 변인과 社會性 및 奉仕性 發達 水準의 關係로 要約할 수 있다. 3. 硏究의 方法은 關係 文獻 硏究와 社會性 및 奉仕性 검사를 위한 質問紙를 4, 5, 6學年 브라우니 兒童 171名과, 一般 兒童 296名에게 배부하여 거기에 대한 資料를 分析 比較 檢證하였고, 父母 53名, 대장 30名, 敎師 39名에 대한 反應 資料를 提示하였다. 4. 本 硏究는 1977年 7月부터 11月까지에 걸쳐 進行되었다. 5. 制限點으로는 5가지를 提示하였다. 6. 理論적 背景 第2章에서 一般 社會性 槪念과 兒童期의 社會性 發達, 兒童期의 社會性의 特徵, 奉仕性의 槪念과, 브라우니 스카우트 奉仕性을 위한 敎育內容을 살폈다. 7. 結果의 解析을 要約하면 다음과 같다. 社會性의 發達에 影響을 미치는 변인으로서는 성적을 들 수 있으며, 봉사성 발달 水準에 影響을 미치는 변인들은 學年의 차, 成績, 文化施設의 差異에서 나타났으며, 스카우트에 立團하게 된 동기, 奉仕하고자 하는 態度 등이었다. 또한 브라우니 스카우트 活動을 한 후 가정에서의 兒童들의 社會性 및 봉사성에 대한 態度의 變化는 매우 바람직한 양상으로 나타났다. 8. 提言 1) 스카우트 活動이 兒童의 社會性 및 奉仕性 發達을 돕기 위해서는 父母나 담임 敎師들이 스카우트 指導者들과 함께 協力할 수 있는 方法이 硏究되어야 할 것이다. 2) 대장들의 역할이 브라우니 스카우트 兒童의 社會性 및 奉仕性에 미치는 影響을 검증하기 위한 作業이 이루어져야 할 것이다. 3) 브라우니 스카우트의 奉仕活動에 대한 프로그램이 우리나라 兒童들의 知的, 社會的 成熟의 段階에 맞게 制定되었는지의 如否를 알아보기 위한 프로그램 分析이 必要하다. 4) 브라우니 活動이 經濟的인 制約을 받지 않고 원하는 兒童이면 누구나 參與할 수 있는 方法의 모색이 必要하다. 5) 兒童들의 社會性 및 奉仕性을 신뢰하고 타당하게 測定할 수 있는 도구 개발이 要望된다.
