古書表紙에 나타난 菱花紋樣에 관한 硏究

Abstract

本 論文은 종래 究明되어 있지않은 古書表紙에 나타난 菱花紋樣에 관한 硏究로서 菱花紋樣에 담겨진 우리 民族의 美的 感覺과 時代에 따른 形態의 變遷過程을 밝혀 古書의 刊行時期를 추정하는데 그 - 部를 돕고자 하는 것이 目的이다. 이러한 目的을 達成하기 위해서 菱花紋樣의 形態를 채취하여 時代 區分하였고, 紋樣의 種類別과 單複別로 大別하여 Category作成하 였으며 이것을 根據로 分析 評價의 단계로 들어 갔다. 한편 菱花 紋樣의 올바른 이해를 위해 菱花版의 定義 및 製作節次를 살펴보고, 高麗 寫經의 表紙에 나타난 裝飾을 調査하여 菱花紋樣을 낳게한 起 源을 추적하여 보았다. 菱花版이란 古書表紙에 아름다운 무늬를 도둘하게 나타내기 위하여 여러가지 紋樣을 새긴 木版이다. 이러한 도둘紋樣은 마름의 形象뿐 만 아니라 그 種類가 실로 多樣함을 알 수 있다. 菱花紋樣의 起源을 추적하기 위해서는 먼저 菱花紋樣을 싹트게한 裝訂을 알아 보았다. 古書表紙의 紋樣裝飾은 高麗 寫經에서 비롯하 였고 그것이 起源이 되어 그 뒤 刊本의 表紙에 도둘紋樣이 나타나 기 시작하였음을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 紋樣은 麗末에 보급되어 朝鮮으로 계승되었으며, 壬辰亂무렵부터 本格的으로 발달하여 그 後로 부터는 各樣各種의 形態와 圖案이 나타났다. 그러나 舊韓末에 이르 러서는 日本을 위시한 外國文明의 影響이 당시의 冊製作 分野에도 미쳐 現代의 冊表紙와 같은 形態로 차츰 바뀌어져 우리 고유의 菱 花紋樣은 서서히 자취를 감추기 시작하였다고 생각된다. 菱花紋樣 形態의 種類別은 植物紋이 가장 많은 分布를 보이며 幾何紋, 寶物紋, 動物紋, 百物紋, 吉祥語紋, 自然紋 順으로 나타난다. 또한 紋樣 形態의 單複別을 바람무늬 위에 본무늬를 곁들인 圖案이 가장 많이 나타나며, 그냥 본무늬만으로 複合 構成된 것이 그 다음이며, 一定한 무늬로만 反復 構成된 單一形이 가장 적은 數를 보인다. 菱 花紋樣은 壬辰亂무렵부터 正祖時期까지 가장 많이 量産하였으며 그 紋 樣의 形態도 多樣하다. 그 以後부터 舊韓末까지는 새로운 作品을 찾 아 보기 힘든 것으로 미루어 이미 初·中期에 生産되었던 菱花版을 製冊과정에 그대로 利用만 한 것으로 짐작한다. 古書에 나타난 菱花紋樣에는 卍字紋과 蓮花紋이 압도적인 數量을 (全體 19%)보였다. 朝鮮時代의 抑佛崇儒 政策에도 不拘하고 이 는 오랫동안 先祖들의 生活에 젖은 佛敎意識이 이미 土着化되어 있었음을 反映한 것 같다. 또한 富貴와 壽福과 多孫을 所望하는 紋樣도 多數 나타나고 있는 것은 朝鮮初期부터 意識的으로 지배해 온 現實爲主的인 理念을 구현하려는 儒敎思想도 紋樣에 적지 않게 影響을 미쳤음을 알 수 있다. 즉 古代 우리 民族의 美的 感覺 은 宗敎的 影響權 밖을 벗어날 수 없었음을 알 수 있다. 마지막으로 菱化紋樣에 관한 硏究는 民族의 傳統性을 엿보는데 중요한 資料가 될 뿐만 아니라, 裝飾紋樣에 있어서도 傳統紋樣을 硏究함으로써 民族의 感覺에 맞는 새로운 디자인을 創造하는데 도 움이 될 것이라고 생각한다.;This thesis is concerned with the diaper pattern block callea "nunghwa-pan". the changing trend of whose Patterns will help estimate the publication date of the korean trad- itional books. The odd rubbings of the diaper pattern blocks were callected are classified acoording to the kind of the patterns and the number of patterns in one diaper wood block. As "nunghwa" itself means "flower", the most of the diaper pattern are plart, but "nunghwa" designs are not restricted to flowers. Some of the common design patterns besides flower are geometrical patterns, treasure patterns, animal patterns, luck sign patterns, nature patterns, which were written in order according to the number of occurrence in this study. According to the types of patterns, the majority are combi- nation of main theme patterns and background Patterns. The single combination of main theme patterns is next and the repetiction of single patterns is third in occurrence. To understand the correct meaning of "nunghwu" pattern, studies have been done on the manufactoring process and the definitions of nunghwa pattern, which were given so far by many researchers in this field. There is no conclusive evidences, which tell when this kind of wood block originated, but an attempt was made to trace its origin by studing the decoration patterns on the Buddist books cover of the Koryo dynasty, It is found that decoration patterns on the covers of korean traditional books were first used in Buddist book of the Koryo dynasty, and thereafter embossed patterns appeared on the covers of published book in the last days of the Koryo dynasty. In Yi-dynasty the beautiful diaper patterns were used and this diaper block prints were most popular and widly distributed during Imjin Japanese war. Also during Imjin Japanese war, the kinds and the types of nunghwa patterns were diversified. The development of new patterns continued to the days of Jung Jou, but after that no new patterns were producted, and it looks like that only old patterns were used repeatedly. The purpose of nunghwa patterns can be decluced from the patterns of nunghwa patterns. 卍 patterns and lotus patterns were most popular in nunghwa patterns even in the Yi-dynasty with the populization of Confucianism, which shows how deeply Buddhism influenced our ancestions life style, some of the characters denoting longevity, happiness and abundance in offspring were also found. In Yi-dynasty Confucianism based on progmatism gave some influences in the development of new patterns. Finally, the study of nunghwa patterns will help understand the tradition of ourpeople ana will also help develop new disigns which comply the thought of our people.
