The aims of English education in elementary school are now focused on maintaining children's interests toward and confidence in English. And looking back to our formal and inefficient ways of grammar teaching focused on English education in elementary school in Korea, teachers are now changing their foci adapt more colloquial speaking methods in their English class. They hope and are optimistic that the new foci will increase practically of English use for students. However, Korean students do not have much opportunity to use English in or outside class. So current elementary English education does not have effect on students' language skills as it was expected. For this reason, children are asked to build up their English competence, which is ready for twenty century's global, informative, and unrestrictive era. Its focus is closely connected to children's English language skills as corresponding. And childrens' lost their interest on the content of the English textbook. And as growing and studying the English subject in the school, students got more anxiety to study English. So, it is necessary to try other activities, for example, using drama that can be applied to various situations. As a result, with drama activities that provide many topics in the natural conversation, students can have more chances to learn English expressions in the various situations. The program was based on the model of Grave(1996)'s course design. The first step was 'needs assessment' which showed what the students' needs were, and the second step was determining goals and objectives which could expent the result. The third was conceptualizing content which contained what necessarily should be taught. The fourth step was selecting and developing materials and activities which showed what and how to teach. The fifth step was organization of content and activities which showed what the program would be. The sixth one was about how to evaluate students' achievement and its program. The final was consideration of resources and constraints which showed the class circumstance. The drama activities used in this program were various, such as warm-up, drama game, role play, improvisation, skit and jazz chant. Each unit consisted of 4 lessons in English classroom: Students practices the expressions in a unit which included warm-us, drama games and other activities. In this paper, two classes of 6th grade children, from an elementary school located in Seoul, were selected as the subjects to answer the research questions. Throughout 12 divisions lasting eight weeks, one class(experimental group) was applied English program which included different drama games and activities. whereas the other class(controlled group) was taught by the normal English teaching steps by the 7th educational curriculum of English for the Elementary school. To measure and compare the effects the English program using drama activities, two groups were judged to be such. After the experiment, they were tested the effects of the program in the areas of the language skills and reduce of the English anxiety toward English learning. As a result, the experimental gruop showed higher averages in all areas of language skills (i.e., listening, speaking, reading and writing) compared to the controlled group. As for language skills post-test, the test result showed statistically meaningful differences (p<.05) in the fields of the listening, speaking, reading and writing. In addition, the class applied English program using drama activities showed lower English anxiety toward English learning and higher interests toward learning English and it showed a statistically meaningful difference (p<.05) comparing to the one with the colloquial-based course. And the result of survey and the self-evaluation showed the students' preference of the drama activities and the increase of students' satisfaction and participation. All in all, the English program using drama activities was effective in increasing language skill and reducing English anxiety toward learning English. However, there are limitations in generalizing the effects as the above results. the result of the study was restricted to the two classes of students in one elementary school developing an English program using drama activities which based on the 6th grade English textbooks during a short period of time. Therefore, a follow-up research that could apply the aforementioned effects is necessary to applied to the other grade students to see the results.;본 연구의 목적은 초등영어 학습자의 언어기능신장과 영어불안해소를 위한 드라마활동을 적용한 프로그램을 개발하여 적용하는 것을 목적으로 한다.
