경제 교육의 자료로서 신문 사설 자료의 유용성

Abstract

본 연구는 경제 교육의 자료로서 신문 사설 자료라는 학습 자료의 유용성과 그 사용시의 유의점, 보완책을 알아보았다. 신문 사설 자료의 본격적인 분석에 앞서 문헌 연구를 통하여 경제 교육의 개념, 목표, 방법-읽기 방법, 신문을 활용한 교육인 NIE를 자세히 살펴보았다. NIE는 신문을 활용한 교육으로 미국 등에서는 널리 사용되고 있으나 우리 나라에서는 근래에 소개되어 현재 그 활용이 미미한 실정이다. 본 연구는 이러한 점에 초점을 신문 자료의 경제 학습 자료로써의 그 유용성과 문제점을 실증적으로 검토하여, 신문 활용 교육의 활발한 이용에 한 계기를 마련하고자 한다. 이렇게 경제 교육의 자료로써 신문 사설 자료를 택하여 1996년 하반기인 7월부터 12월까지 6개월간 동아,서울, 조선, 중앙, 한겨레 등 5개 신문사의 신문를 분석하였다. 그리고 신문 자료 중에서도 경제 관련 신문 사설 자료로 그 범위를 한정하여 신문 사설 자료를 분석하였다. 신문 사설 자료를 택한 이유는 경제 현상에 대한 설명부터 원인, 대책 제시까지가 간략하고 쉽게 제시되어 있어 다른 경제 관련 사설보다 수업에서의 활용이 용이하기 때문이다. 그리고 그 결과는 되도록 도표화하여 통계로 제시하였다. 연구 결과 경제 관련 신문 사설 자료에서는 모든 경제 교육의 기본 개념에 있어 그 신문 사설 자료가 골고루 풍부하지는 않았고 또한 각 신문별로 풍부한 개념 관련 자료에 있어 차이를 보였다 그러나 현 경제 생활과 관련되는 소득분배, 경제체제, 재정, 국제경제, 그리고 현 한국 경제실태를 담고 있는 내용은 비교적 모든 신문 사설 자료에 있어 풍부한 편이어서 다른 개념에 비해 신문 사설 자료가 유용한 것으로 드러났다. 따라서 수업 중 신문 사설 자료의 활용은 위와 같은 내용을 담고 있는 영역에서 특히 권할 수 있는 것으로 드러났다. 그러나 신문 사설 자료가 경제 교육의 학습 자료로써 가지는 문제점도 있었는데 이는 첫째 편중된 시각의 수용 가능성, 둘째 부정적 시각의 수용가능성, 셋째 잘못된 내용의 수용 가능성으로 나타났다. 그리고 이를 보완하기 의해 교사는 되도록 다양한 신문 사설 자료를 사용해야 하고 또한 사용전에 비판적 시각일 수밖에 없는 배경을 설명해야 하며 마지막으로 사용 전의 충분한 검토로 잘못된 기사는 배제해야 한다. 그리고 본 연구를 마치며 마지막으로 앞으로의 학교 현장에서의 신문을 활용한 실제적 교육에 있어 본 연구자의 제안점-토론 등 다른 학습방법 병행, 읽기 전 간단한 용어 해설 및 중요 부분 체크, 사회과 자료센타의 운영, 잘못된 기사의 배제-을 덧붙였다.;The purpose of this study was to examine the method of improving thinking ability through the study of documents, which is necessary both in the future society and in the social studies. And reading as learning strategy, which is an indirect educational method to improve thinking ability, was used in this study. That was because reading was easy to apply, on the other hand the effectiveness of reading was significant in social studies. In addition, NIE(Newspaper In Education) was examined into details before the the analysis of the effectiveness of newspaper appolication. NIE is being used in America, but it has been introduced recently and is rarely in Korea. Newspaper materials have plenty of educational contents were analyzed by practical method and investigated into using in educational field in other to present samples about NIE. Editorial materials connected with economy in newspapers such as Dong-a, Seoul, Cho-sun, Jung-ang and Hankyure during the late six moths of 1996, form Jury to December, were analyzed. The data collected above were analyzed by statistical device to get the meaningful results. The result of editorial materials connected with economy was that materials concerned with the present Korean economy or the present economic life was much than others. The following result were drawn in graph and represented by the comparison of same subject for the purpose of approaching qualitatively. And not to have a wrong view, it was revealed that we must use various materials in class. Finally this researcher's proposals ­ using various materials, the management of social studies materials center, and etc ­ about the practical education applying newspapers in school were added.
