중학교 생물실험수업에서 수행 평가 방법이 학생들의 태도와 학업성취도에 미치는 영향

Abstract

과학교육에서 학생들의 다양한 능력을 정확하게 측정하는 것은 매우 중요하다. 여기서 학생들의 과학지식은 필기시험만으로도 어느 정도 정확한 평가를 내릴 수 있겠지만, 문제가 되는 것은 실험수행능력이나 태도를 필기시험만으로 얼마나 정확히 측정할 수 있느냐는 것이다. 학생들의 다양한 능력을 타당하게 평가하자는 목적으로 최근 수행평가라는 용어가 우리 교육현장에 유행처럼 확산되고 있지만 수행평가라는 용어의 개념에 대한 혼란과 학급 당 학생수의 과다, 교사의 잡무 등의 이유로 현재 학교 교육 현장에서는 그 본래의 취지와는 다르게 이해되거나 학교 현장에서 잘못 적용되는 경우가 많다. 그러나 수행평가가 정착되지 못하는 가장 큰 이유는 수행평가 도구와 방법의 부재 때문이라고 할 수 있다. 현재 학교에서는 과학실험수업에 대한 평가를 과거와 마찬가지로 실험보고서나 지필 검사로 평가하는 것이 대부분이다. 물론 실험보고서도 수행평가의 한 방법이지만 실험보고서만으로 학생들의 실험수행능력이나 태도를 타당하게 평가하기는 어려울 것이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 기존의 실험보고서법과 함께 교사들이 실제 수업에서 실험수업을 실시할 때 학생들의 실험수행능력을 타당하게 평가할 수 있는 수행평가의 한 방법으로 관찰평가 도구(점검표)를 개발하였다. 수행평가 도구 적용의 효과를 알아보기 위하여 본 연구에서는 사전-사후 검사 통제 집단 설계에 근거하여 실험연구를 하였다. 연구대상은 서울시에 있는 여자 중학교 2학년 2개반 학생 60명이었다. 실험집단에서는 기존의 실험보고서식과 함께 본 연구에서 개발한 관찰법을 적용하였고, 통제집단에서는 실험보고서만으로 평가를 실시하여 4차시 각 45분 동안 실험수업이 이루어졌다. 본 연구를 위하여 개발된 20문항으로 이루어진 과학실험에 대한 태도 검사와 10문항으로 이루어진 학업성취도 검사를 실시하여 관찰법을 이용한 수행평가 실시의 효과를 알아보았다. 본 연구를 통하여 얻은 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 관찰법을 이용해 수행평가를 실시한 실험수업은 학생들의 과학실험에 대한 태도를 더욱 긍정적이고 적극적이도록 하는데 효과적이었다(p<.05). 둘째, 과학실험시간 동안에 관찰평가를 실시한 학급이 실시하지 않은 학급에 비해서 학업 성취도에 있어서 유의미한 향상을 보였다(p<.05). 이상의 결과로 볼 때 평가목표에 맞게 이루어지는 타당한 평가로서의 수행평가는 단순히 학생을 평가한다는 의미에서 그치는 것이 아니라 교수 -학습과 유기적으로 관련되어 학습과 학생들의 태도에 기여한다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.;The purpose of this study is to develope performance assessment instrument(checklist) for biology experiment class in middle school and investigate the relative effectiveness of performance assessment on the attitude related to science experiment class and scientific knowledge achievement. This study was performed as follows; 1. The performance assessment instrument(check1ist) is developed ti, evaluate science experimental processing skills in biology experiment class. Assessment instrument include criteria for students individual experimental processing skills. 2. The experimental subjects was selected to apply developed performance assessment instrument(checklist). The four selected subjects were Detection of nutriment, Function of saliva, Observation of blood, Observation of capillary. 3. Tools for estimating the attitude related to science experiment class and tools for examining the scientific knowledge were created and science teachers and educational graduated students have examined the validity. 4. Two-year girls middle school students were selected for this study. The developed performance assessment instrument was applied in experiment group, but it was not applied in. control group. 5. AKCOVA used to analyze the results. According to the results of this study, using of performance assessment instrument showed meaningful effect on the students' attitude related to science experiment class(p<0.01). And using of performance assessment instrument also showed meaningful effect on the students' scientific knowledge achievement(p< 0.01). 6. Considering the above results, the developed instrument in this study is regarded as a appropriate instrument for evaluating science experimental processing skills of middle school students.
