법률학적 모형에 의한 STS프로그램이 고등학교 학습부진아의 학업성취도와 태도에 미치는 효과

Abstract

과학교육에 있어 STS(Science - Technology - Society)운동은 현대 사회 속에서 과학기술을 올바로 이해하고 문제점을 해결하기 위해 학생의 일상 생활 및 사회적 경험과 관련 있는 문제를 중심으로 과학을 가르쳐 과학의 적용성과 과학적 사고력을 기르도록 하기 위해 대두되었다. 사실 우리 나라의 학교 교육 실정에서는 학생의 학업수준을 고려하여 수업을 진행하기가 어려운 실정이며, 많은 학습부진아들은 기초학력의 부족을 이유로 높은 과학불안도를 가지며, 낮은 학업성취도를 보이고 있다. 그러므로 STS를 학교교육에 적용하는데 있어 학업 수준에 적합한 STS프로그램의 개발이 반드시 필요하다. 수업방법에 있어 학생들의 참여와 가치판단영역을 중시하는 법률학적 모형이 적합하다고 판단된다. 법률학적 모형에서는 학생들이 스스로 자료를 찾아보고, 자신의 의견을 발표하며, 집단에 소속되어 협동할 필요가 있고, 여러 가지 의견을 종합하고 사회에 적용하는 단계 등이 중시되므로 학습부진아에 대한 STS 수업의 효과를 극대화할 수 있을 것이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 이러한 STS프로그램을 이용한 수업이 학생들에게 미치는 효과를 알아보기 위해 고등학교 1학년 공통과학 '생명' 단원 일부에 대하여 법률학적 모형을 이용한 STS 프로그램을 개발하고 수업에 적용한 후, 학생들의 학업성취도와 과학에 관한 태도에 어떠한 효과가 있는지 알아보았다. 그리하여, 학습부진아들의 학업성취도나 태도를 향상시키는 데에 수업 방법의 방향을 제시하고자 하였다. 연구대상은 76명의 야간계 고등학교 학생들로 하였으며, 실험 집단과 통제 집단의 두 집단으로 나누어, 실험 집단에서는 개발된 STS 프로그램을 적용하고, 통제 집단에서는 전통적인 강의 중심의 수업을 하였다. 수업처치 후 학업성취도와 과학에 관한 태도의 효과는 사전, 사후 검사에 대해 공변량 분석을 사용하여 알아보았다. 본 연구를 수행하여 얻은 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 법률학적 모형에 의한 STS 프로그램은 전통적인 수업보다 학습부진아들의 학업성취도를 향상시키는데 유의미한 효과를 나타내었다(p<.05). 2. 법률학적 모형에 의한 STS 프로그램은 전통적인 수업보다 학습부진아들의 과학에 관한 태도 변화에 유의미한 효과를 나타내었다. 특히, 과학에 대한 태도, 과학교과에 대한 태도, 과학교사에 대한 태도면에 효과적이었다(p<.05). 3. 학업성취도와 과학에 관한 태도는 상관관계가 없는 것으로 나타났다(p<.05).;The bottom line in STS is the involvement of learners in experiencesand issues which are directly related to their lives. STS empowers students with skills which allow them to become active, responsible citizens by responding to issues which impact their lives. But the underachievers a different progress will be needed because they are ignored in classes. It is the integration of societal and technological issues that makes science content much more meaningful. The jurisprudental inquiry STS model can be used to accomplish that integration. By using STS issues in this manner, underachievers must see the value of science, how the issue impacts them and also how they impact the issue. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect on learning achievment and science-related attitude. Therefore, this study develops and apply The jurisprudental inquiry model-oriented STS program on biology of the first-year high school underachievers. The object of this study was 76 night high school student, they were divided into two groups, experiment and control group. Experiment group applied the developed STS program and control group took the traditional lecture-centered class. 8 STS program were developed and applied to the contents related with 'Nutrient and health', 'Stimulation and reaction of animal', 'reproduction organ' induded at high school science textbook. The result of this study can be summarized follows. 1. There is significant difference in learning achievement between the jurisprudental inquiry model-oriented STS program treatment group and control group(p<.05). 2. There is significant difference in the underachievers'attitude change on the science between the jurisprudental inquiry model-oriented STS program treatment group and control group(p<.05). 3. No relationship was found between the learng achievement and the attitude on the science.
