부모와 자녀의 완벽주의 성향 및 지각된 부모의 양육태도간의 관계

Abstract

본 연구는 부모의 완벽주의 성향과 자녀의 완벽주의 성향, 그리고 자녀가 지각한 부모의 양육태도간의 상관관계를 살펴보고, 또한 연령, 성별에 학력에 따른 완벽주의 성향의 차이를 알아보았다. 본 연구는 고등학교 1학년 남녀학생 197명(남학생:101명, 여학생:96명)과 그들의 부모를 대상으로 실시하였다. 완벽주의 성향의 측정도구로는 한기연(1993)이 번안한 Hewitt와 Flett(1991)의 MPS (Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale)를 사용하였고, 자녀가 지각한 부모의 양육태도 측정도구로는 오성심·이종숭(1982)이 제작한 부모의 양육태도 검사를 사용하였는데, 이때 각 하위차원별로 내적일치도가 낮았던 문항들은 분석에서 제외되었다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 부모의 완벽주의 성향과 자녀의 완벽주의 성향과의 관계, 지각된 부모의 양육태도와 자녀의 완벽주의 성향과의 관계, 부모의 완벽주의 성향과 지각된 부모의 양육 태도와의 관계에서 각각 관련이 있었다. 그러나 그 구체적인 양상은 각 하위차원 별로 아버지와 아들, 아버지와 딸, 어머니와 아들, 어머니와 딸의 관계에 따라서 상이했다. 2. 부모와 자녀의 완벽주의 성향의 관계에 있어서는 아버지와 아들, 아버지와 딸, 어머니와 아들, 어머니와 딸 각각의 관계에서 관련을 보임으로써 동일성 모델링 (same-sex modeling)에 의한 영향은 나타나지 않았다. 또한 자녀의 완벽주의와 자녀가 지각한 부모의 양육태도와의 상관에 있어서도, 뚜렷한 차이는 아니었지만 딸의 완벽주의는 오히려 어머니보다 아버지의 양육태도와 더 관련이 있었고 아들의 완벽주의는 아버지의 양육태도와는 상관이 없었고 어머니의 양육태도와 관련이 있었다. 전체적으로 아들의 완벽주의보다 딸의 완벽주의가 부모의 양육태도와 관련이 더 많았다. 3. 부모의 자기지향적 완벽주의 성향과 타인지향척 완벽주의 성향은 자녀에 대한 애정적, 성취적, 합리적 양육태도와 같은 긍정적인 양육태도와 관련이 있었고 자녀의 자기지향적 완벽주의 성향과 타인지향적 완벽주의 성향 역시 부모의 성취지향적 양육태도와 같은 긍정적인 양육태도와 관련이 있었다. 반면 부모의 사회적으로 부과한 완벽주의 성향은 비합리적 양육태도와 같은 부정적 양육태도와 관련이 있었고 자녀의 사회적으로 부과한 완벽주의 성향역시 부모의 적대적, 통제적, 비합리적 양육태도와 같은 부정적인 양육태도와 관련이 있었다. 4. 연령, 성별에 따라 완벽주의 성향에 차이가 있는지 알아본 결과는 다음과 같다. 1) 부모 집단(성인 집단)이 자녀 집단(청소년 집단)보다 자기지향적 완벽주의, 타인지향적 완벽주의, 완벽주의 총점에서 더 높았고, 반면 사회적으로 부과한 완벽주의에서는 자녀 집단이 부모 집단보다 더 높았다. 2) 성별 차이에 있어서는 남학생과 여학생간에는 차이가 없었으나 아버지가 어머니보다 사회적으로 부과한 완벽주의 성향이 더 높은 것으로 나타났다. 이상의 연구결과로 부모의 완벽주의 성향, 자녀의 완벽주의 성향, 자녀가 지각한 부모의 양육태도간에 각각 상관이 있음을 밝힘으로써 부모와의 상호작용이 자녀의 완벽주의 발달과 관련되어 있음을 알 수 있다.;This study was to examine the relationship among parents' perfectionism, children's perfectionism, and parents' child rearing attitude as perceived by their children and the differences in perfectionism by age and sex. The subjects were 197 first year high school students(male 101, female 96) and their parents. The Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale(MPS) developed by Hewitt & Flett(1991) and translated by Ki-Yeon Han (1993) was used for the measurement of perfectionism. The scale used for the measurement of parents' child rearing attitude perceived by their children was the Child Rearing Attitude Study developed by Sung-Shim Oh and Jong-Seoung Lee(1982). The results were as follows. 1. There were correlations respectively between parents' and their Children's perfectionism, between children's perfectionism and perceived parents' child rearing attitude, and between parents' perfectionism and perceived parents' child rearing attitude. Correlations varied between subgroups: father and son, father and daughter, mother and son, and mother and daughter. 2. Correlations in perfectionism between father and son. between father and daughter, between mother and son, and between mother and daughter were all significant so there was no meaningful effect of same-sex modeling. Besides in the correlation between perceived parents' child rearing attitude and children's perfectionism, although not apparent differences, daughters' perfectionism correlated higher with fathers' child rearing attitude than mothers' and sons' perfectionism correlated not with fathers' child rearing attitude but with mothers'. On the whole, perceived parents' child rearing attitude correlated higher with daughters' perfectionism than sons' perfectionism. 3. Parents' score on self-oriented perfectionism and other-oriented perfectionism correlated with positive child rearing attitude like affection, achievement and rationality-inclined rearing attitude. And children's score on self-oriented perfectionism and other-oriented perfectionism were also correlated with positive child rearing attitude like achievement-inclined rearing attitude. In contrast, parents' socially prescribed perfectionism correlated with negative child rearing attitude like irrationality-inclined rearing attitude. And children's socially prescribed perfectionism also correlated with negative child rearing attitude such as hostility, control, and irrationality-inclined rearing attitude. 4. Differences of perfectionism by age and sex were as follows. 1) The score of parents group(adults group) was higher than that of children group(adolescents group) in Self-Oriented Perfectionism, Other-Oriented Perfectionism, and Overall Perfectionism. And the score of children group was higher than that of parents group in Socially Prescribed Perfectionism. 2) There was no difference between boys and girls in perfectionism but the score of fathers was higher than that of mothers in Socially Prescribed Perfectionism. Significant correlations among parents' perfectionism, children's perfectionism, and perceived parents' child rearing attitude seem to lead us to conclude that relationship with parents have significant effect in the development of children's perfectionism.
