노인교육의 새로운 방향설정을 위한 한연구

Abstract

This Thesis intends to investigate into the theoretical basis for the education for old dpeople (EOP) from the viewpoint of Christian education, and the possibility to carry out the education in church. For this purpose, the following aspects were studied. First, the theoretical basis for EOP from the viewpoint of Christian education education Was established. Second, the current status and problems of EOP in Korea were broadly surveyed. Third, the possibility to improve Eop through counselling a way of Christian education was investigated. For theoretical approach, the ideas of Sherill, Westerhoff, and Clinbell were adopted. The ideas of Sherill and Westerhoff on christian education, and that of Clinbell on growth Counselling all suggest that education promotes self- or spiritual development and thus has a meaning in EOP. In other words, EOP has the same essential task of self-development as ordinary education has. As for the Methods of EOP, the ideas of Christian community by Sherill, faith community by Westerhoff, and counselling for spiritual growth by Clinbell, suggest that EOP should be done individually as Well as in community. From the suvey of BOP in Korea, I concluded that the current status and/or problems are the product of its rather passive goals. In other words, EOP in Kores aims at mainly the social fellowship among old people, escape from the aging phenomena of isolation and alienation, and improvement of understanding on health problems. To the improvement of BOP, I envisoned that pastoral counselling sa one way of christian education can contribute a great deal, by helping old people to realize their potential, to overcome alienation and improve social relationship, and to cultivate self-respect as an indispensable constituent in their community. From these basic studies, several suggeations can be made to improve and reorient EOP in Korea. These include 1) the establishment of Nation-wide as well as regional institute for EOP organized as a whole; 2) the establishment of research institute emphasizing on EOP only, providing guidelines for future EOP; 3) the establishment of courses in colleges and in graduate level to educate personnels specialized in EOP; and finally, 4) the development and distribution af educational programs within regional churches for old people to enhance their desire for continuing education and self-respect.;오늘날 세계는 의학 및 과학기술의 발달로 평균수명이 연장됨에 따라 점차 노인인구가 증가하는 추세에 있다. 전통적으로 노인들을 공경하고 모셔온 우리나라에서는 노인들이 가부장적 권위를 갖고 가정과 사회에서 최종적으로 의사를 결정하는 사회질서의 전통 속에서 살아왔다. 그러나 오늘날 급격하게 진행되는 핵가족화현상과 개인주의적 사고의 영향으로 우리 현 사회도 우리나름대로의 심각한 노인문제를 안고 있다. 이러한 현 시점에서 우선 노인들이 모든 면에서 말고 정신적인 독립이 필요하다고 본다. 그러므로 성인 프로그램의 일환으로 노인교육프로그램을 활발히 전개함으로써 적극적인 교육이 필요하다. 이 논문은 기독교교육의 관점에서 노인교육의 이론적 기초를 탐색하고, 교회에서의 노인교육의 가능성을 검토하려는 것이다. 논문의 연구문제는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 기독교교육의 관점에서 노인교육의 이론적 기초를 탐색한다. 둘째, 한국노인교육의 현황과 문제점을 종합적으로 파악한다. 셋째, 기독교 교육의 일환으로 상담을 통한 노인교육의 가능성을 탐색한다. 이 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 노인교육은 자아를 발전시키는 것을 핵심적으로 하며, 개별적인 교육 뿐만 아니라 공동체를 단위로 하는 노인교육이 필요하다. 둘째, 우리나라 노인교육의 내용은 주로 여가활동과 취미생활에 불과하고 전문적인 프로그램과 교육자가 결여되어 있다. 셋째, 노인교육이 단순히 즐거움과 보호의 차원을 넘어설 수 있는 방법으로 교회에서 상담을 통한 노인교육을 생각해 볼 수 있다. 이러한 노인교육은 노인들이 스스로 자아를 재창조하고 하나님의 공동체 안에 참여함으로써 노인들의 삶의 의미를 강하게 한다고 생각된다.
