미국 피아노 교재가 갖고 있는 미국적인 특징에 관한 연구

Abstract

At the starting of 21st century, piano method books of new concepts have been produced through much research and development in piano pedagogy. Among these piano methods, the American piano methods that had been introduced in the 1980s to Korea were studied in this thesis. In this study, the historical background of American piano methods was studied, then the Alfred and Bastien Piano methods books had been analyzed. The object of this study is to show the way for developing Korean's own piano method book. The characteristics of piano method books which had been produced in America were divided largely in four ways, then the Alfred and Bastien methods were studied, according to those characteristics. Analysis result is like below. Firstly, the national and cultural emotion are surveyed about the background of American national life, emotion, spirit, and surroundings. In the Alfred's case, it is about 12.9% of the material consisted of national, cultural emotion, but in the Bastien's case, it is 11.7% of the same. Secondly, I analyzed American folk songs and traditional melodies as a traditional part. In the Alfred's case, it is about 3.0% of the material consisted of traditional part, but in the Bastien's case, it is 0.9% of the same. Thirdly, I surveyed the Blues, Rock, Pop, and Boogie-woogie which have been the original American music style. It is shown that the Bastien method has a more pieces in American music style than the Alfred one. In the Alfred's case, it is about 3.7% of the material consisted of original American music style, but in the Bastien's case, it is 4.8% of the same. Fourthly, I surveyed how the hymn and religional melodies effected on the piano methods. In the Alfred's case, it is about 1.7% of the material consisted of religional tunes, but in the Bastien's case, it is 1.4% of the same. At the base of above four points, it is shown that the Alfred and the Bastien each had 121.3% and 18.8% of the material consisted of American characteristics. According to above results, I made some suggestions for developing korean's own piano method as below. First, each nation has its own national cultural emotion. American piano method books were developed for their own emotion. We should develop the method that fit well to Korean's own national emotion and culture. Second, we should support chances in which students have musical experience by using traditional children's songs and the Korean folk tunes. Third, we should include the Korea's stream by applying musical phrases, metres, and rhythms which are based on Korea's own. Fourth, contacting various music which contain religious feelings would be helpful in making musical ability. Finally, piano method book which is based in Korean style music should be studied actively.;21세기를 목전(目前)에 두고 있는 시점에서 피아노 교수법에 관한 많은 연구와 발전을 거듭하여 새로운 개념의 피아노 교재들이 등장하고 있다. 이러한 새로운 교재들을 개발한 각 나라들은 그들 고유의 자국적(自國的) 특성을 교재에 제시하고 있다. 본 연구는 미국 피아노 교재가 갖고 있는 미국적인 특징에 관한 연구에 중점을 두고자 한다. 1970년대 이후 미국 피아노 교재를 포함해 외국에서 만들어진 기초단계의 피아노 교재분석으로 각 교재의 조성, 리듬, 박자, 선율 등에 관한 학습과 이의 지도 방법에 관한 분석, 즉 그 교재의 일반적인 내용을 소개하는 정도의 연구들이 수없이 시도되었다. 그러나 본 연구자는 이러한 기존의 연구 분야에서 언급하지 않았던, 미국 피아노 교재만이 갖고 있는 특성에 관한 연구를 하였다. 여러 나라 가운데서 피아노 교재 개발에 있어 주도적인 역할을 하고 있는 미국을 선정해 미국적인 특징을 연구하였는데, 알프레드와 베스틴 교재를 중심으로 살펴보았다. 미국 피아노 교재로 두 교본에 국한 시킨 이유는 비교적 미국에서 최근에 개발된 교재로 현재 우리나라에서 정식으로 수입되어 많이 사용되고 있기 때문이다. 본 연구에서는 미국 피아노 교재 발달의 역사적인 배정에 대해 살펴보고, 미국 피아노 교재에 나타난 미국적인 특성을 크게 4가지로 분류하여 미국의 민족적인 생활감정과 사상, 환경 등을 배경으로한 민족적·문화적 정서, 전통적인 요소로 미국민요와 민요적인 성격의 곡, 미국 특유의 다양한 음악스타일 그리고 종교적인 색채를 바탕으로 연구하였다. 알프레드와 베스틴 피아노 교본의 전과정에 미국적인 특성이 얼마만한 비중을 갖고 어떠한 방향으로 제시되고 응용되었는지 분석하였다. 그 결과 미국적인 특성을 포함하는 요소들은 알프레드에는 21.11%, 베스틴에는 18.8%의 비중을 차지하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 분석은 미국적인 특징을 4가지 요소에 근거하여 분류하였는데, 그 4가지 분류와 그것에 의하여 나타난 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 미국의 민족적인 생활감정과 사상(思想), 환경 등을 배경으로 한 민족적·문화적 정서를 살펴보았다. 알프레드 피아노 교본에는 전체의 악곡 가운데에 약 12.9% 베스틴에는 11.7%의 악곡이 제시되어 있었다. 둘째, 전통적인 요소로 미국 민요와 민요적인 성격의 곡을 중심으로 분석하였다. 알프레드 피아노 교본에 제시된 전통적인 요소는 전체의 3.0%를 차지했으며 베스틴 교본에 있어서는 0.9%로 나타났다. 셋째, 미국 특유의 고유한 음악스타일인 블루스, 록, 팝, 부기우기 등의 음악스타일을 살펴보았다. 알프레드 교본에 3.7%, 베스틴에는 4.8%로 베스틴 교본에 다양한 고유의 음악 스타일이 좀 더 많은 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 종교적인 색채로 찬송가와 종교적인 선율이 교재에 어떻게 반영되고 있는가 살펴보았다. 기독교의 영향을 받은 종교적인 악곡이 알프레드에 1.7%. 베스틴에 1.4%로 나타났다. 이와 같은 결과에 대해 본 연구자는 미국 피아노 교재의 특징적인 요소들이 한국적인 피아노 교재 개발에 그대로 적용될 수는 없지만 한국적인 특징을 가지고 있는 교재를 개발하는데 새로운 아이디어와 일련의 방향을 제시해 줄 수는 있다고 생각한다. 한국의 피아노 교 재 개발의 교육적인 측면에 대해 몇 가지 제안을 하고자 한다. 각 나라는 그 나라 마다의 독특한 민족적인 문화와 정서를 갖는다. 미국의 피아노 교본은 미국적인 정서에 맞게 개발된 것이다. 그들의 교본에서 보여지는 장점을 참고하여 우리 민족의 정서와 문화에 맞는 교재를 개발하였으면 한다. 전통적인 요소로 전래동요와 민요의 짧고 간단한 선율을 이용해 고유의 음악적 체험의 기회를 넓혀주고, 다양한 고유의 음악 스타일인 "우리의 것"을 기반으로 하는 박자, 장단, 리듬 등을 교재에 응용해 한국적인 흐름을 포함시키도록 해야 할 것이다. 미국 피아노 교재에서는 종교적인 분위기가 가미된 악곡을 교재에 제시해 의식적인 경건함과 엄숙함을 보여주고 있는데, 이것은 종교적인 음악을 통하여 다양한 음악을 접하게 되며 또한 음악을 통한 인격수양에도 도움을 준다고 본다. 끝으로 무엇보다도 피아노 교육에 있어서 우리의 문화, 생활, 정서 그리고 고유의 음악을 포함하는 한국형 피아노 교재 개발의 연구가 활성화 되어야 한다고 본 연구자는 생각하는 바이다.
