그림책을 통한 통일교육 활동을 경험한 유아의 통일 관련 인식 변화

Abstract

본 연구는 그림책을 통한 통일교육 활동을 경험한 유아의 통일 관련 인식 변화를 알아보는 연구로서 유치원 현장에서 적용될 수 있는 유아 공감적인 통일교육 활동 프로그램 개발을 위한 기초 자료를 제공하는데 목적이 있다. 본 연구의 목적에 따라 다음과 같은 구체적인 연구 문제를 설정하였다. 1. 그림책을 통한 통일교육 활동을 경험한 유아가 나타내는 북한에 대한 인식 변화는 어떠한가? 2. 그림책을 통한 통일교육 활동을 경험한 유아가 나타내는 남북한 동질성에 대한 인식 변화는 어떠한가? 3. 그림책을 통한 통일교육 활동을 경험한 유아가 나타내는 통일에 대한 인식 변화는 어떠한가? 이와 같은 목적을 달성하기 위해 본 연구의 대상을 서울특별시에 소재한 가정의 사회․경제적 수준이 비슷한 S유치원 만 5세 유아 남․녀 각 15명씩 30명을 임의로 선정하였다. 유아의 평균연령은 74개월이였다. 연구 대상 유아들에게 그림책을 통한 통일교육 활동을 2006년 10월 2일부터 10월 29일까지 4주간 실시하였다. 사용된 연구도구는 이원영, 이태영, 정혜원, 이경민(2003), 김경희 (2003), 최민수, 김명화(2003), 강두이(2003)의 연구에서 사용된 면접지를 본 연구자가 연구의 목적에 맞게 수정․보완하여 사용하였다. 유아용 면접지의 내용은 북한 인식에 관한 4문항, 남북한 동질성 인식에 관한 5문항, 통일에 대한 인식에 관한 5문항 총 14문항으로 구성되어 있다. 유아 면접 자료는 빈도분석을 하였으며, 몇 개 항목에 대해서는 유아들의 통일에 관련한 인식 변화에 대한 심층적 이해를 위해 유아의 응답 사례를 제시하였다. 본 연구의 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 북한에 대한 유아의 인식을 살펴보면, 대부분의 유아가 북한에 대해 잘 모르고 있거나 잘못 인식하고 있는 경우가 많았다. 북한이란 용어 자체를 모르는 유아도 있었으며, 북한의 위치나 북한 사람들에 대해 잘못된 정보를 가지고 있는 경우가 많았다. 그러나 이러한 북한에 대한 인식들은 문학적 접근에 기초한 통일교육 활동의 경험을 통해 변화되었음을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 남북한 동질성에 대한 인식을 알아본 결과, 북한과 우리나라를 별개의 다른 나라로 인식하고 있는 유아가 많았으며, 예전에 한 나라였으며 공통된 문화유산을 가지고 있음을 인식하지 못한 유아가 많았다. 그러나 문학적 접근에 기초한 통일교육 활동을 경험함으로서 유아의 인식이 변화되었음을 알 수 있었다. 셋째, 통일에 대한 인식 변화를 알아본 결과, 문학적 접근에 기초한 통일교육 활동의 경험이 통일의 어휘나 개념에 관한 인식에는 많은 변화를 가져왔으나 통일의 필요성 및 통일의 방법에 대한 인식변화에는 큰 변화를 보이지 못한 것으로 나타났다.;This study is to find out the changes in the children's perceptions in relation to the reunification after their experiencing the reunification education activity through the picture book. The purpose is to provide the basic data to develop the reunification education activity programs to children's eye level that may be applied to the on-site of the kindergartens. According to the purpose of this study, the specific issues are set up as follows: 1. How changes are there in the perceptions toward North Korea shown by the children who experienced the reunification education through picture book? 2. How changes are there in the perceptions toward the homogeneity between South and North Korea shown by the children who experienced the reunification education through picture book? 3. How changes are there in the perceptions toward the reunification shown by the children who experienced the reunification education through picture book? To achieve above mentioned purposes, 30 children(male:15 female:15) under 5 years old have been selected among them in "S Kindergarten" located in Seoul whose social and economic family levels are similar with each other. The children's average age is 74 months. The reunification education activity through the picture book was conducted to these children for four weeks from October 2, 2006 through October 29, 2006. The applied research tools were the question papers that have been used to the studies performed by Lee Won-young, Lee Tae-young, Jung Hye- won and Lee Gyeong-min(2003); Kim Gyeong-hui(2003); Choi Min-soo, Kim Myeong-hwa(2003); and Gang Doo-hui(2003). And then the modifications and supplementations were made properly to the purpose of this study. The contents of this paper are composed of 14 questions in total, including 4 regarding the perception of North Korea; 5 regarding the homogeneity between South and North Korea; and 5 regarding the perception of reunification. The frequency analysis was made on the interviewing data with the children. As for several questions, the response cases were presented to deeply understand the children's shifting perceptions in related to the reunification. In summary, the results of this study are as follows: First, with respect to the children's perception of North, Korea, there were many cases in which most of children knew little about or had incorrect view on it. There were children who did not know even about North Korea, having wrong information on its location and North Koreans. However, the results indicated that children's perceptions were shifted through their experiences of reunification education activity based on the literary approach. Second, with respect to the children's perception of the homogeneity between South and North Korea, there were many children thinking two as the completely different countries, without knowing the fact that those two had been one country and shared the common cultural heritage. However, the results indicated that children's perceptions were shifted through their experiences of reunification education activity based on the literary approach. Third, with respect to the perception of reunification, it was found that the reunification education activity experience based on the literary approach has caused the changes in children's perception of vocabulary or concept, but little changes in the their perception of needs and methods of reunification. In conclusion, the application of the reunification education through the picture book has caused the changes in children's perception of the reunification, indicating such education would be very important part on our children who would play leading roles in our future. In addition, the experiences in reunification education at the childhood affect the changes in perception of the national homogeneity, it is important to continue such on-site education so that the children may feel that South and North Korean share the same cultural heritage. The future on-site early childhood education should essentially include the activities so that the children may be aware of the concept of unification, and think and express why the reunification is necessary and how it would be achieved. As the reunification is very abstract and difficult concept, it is necessary to further develop various reunification education activities and programs based on the literary approach, so that they may be easily applied to the teachers and children causing the interest.
