음악자료를 활용한 한국 근대사 수업 연구

Abstract

This study proposes a new version of teaching method by using musical materials to induce students' interest and attention on Korean modern history in class, which can lead the effective communication with teachers and have students understand real life through historical facts. For utilizing musical materials on Korean history, this study regulates possibilities of inflectional paradigms on historical instruction. And for teaching & learning method, musical materials were collected to integrate with contents of the textbook. 3 songs were chosen, considering of students' interest and integration with text book contents and the teaching method was made from historical background of those songs and the textbook. Experimental results are as follows. From teachers' evaluations, the group of music-controlled students shows a higher level of understanding than uncontrolled group of students and the survey shows highly positive results in preference, interest and capability of acquiring and understanding historical knowledge from the music controlled group. This is shown in the additional lecture to ensure a similar result. Students' study notes tell that musical materials help students not only understand emotions, feelings, situations of ancestors' and also, reflect those on our lives. In conclusion, a history lecture using musical materials brings a high level of understanding and interest on historical facts. This study leaves further studies using various musical materials and long-term researches. However, as one of the newest teaching-learning methods, this study suggests a possibility that fun and familiar musical materials can lead students to learn better in different and various ways.;본 연구는 역사 교육에서 학생들에게 흥미와 관심을 유발하고 수업 내용을 효과적으로 전달하여 현실에 대한 안목을 키우게 하기 위하여 음악자료를 활용한 수업을 제안하였다. 특히 기존 음악 활용 수업에 관한 사례가 음악활용 수업에 대한 가능성 제시와 자료 수집에 그치거나 역사수업의 흥미를 이끌어 연구가 있었으나, 이러한 연구들에서 부족한 구체적인 수업방안의 제시와 음악을 통한 학습 이해의 효과까지 검증하고자 하였다. 음악 자료를 역사수업의 매체로 활용하기 위하여 음악이 일반 학습에 주는 영향과 역사학습에 활용될 수 있는 가능성을 이론적으로 정리하였다. 그리고 교수-학습 내용을 구성하기 위하여 음악 자료를 수집하고 교과서 내용과의 통합을 시도하였다. 음악자료는 가사가 담긴 노래를 자료로 삼았다. 수집 방법은 먼저 다양한 경로를 통하여 한국 근대사에 관련된 노래 목록을 구성하여 음원을 확인하였다. 노래의 선정은 교과서와의 효과적인 통합이 가능한지, 학생들의 흥미와 호기심을 자극할 수 있는 것인지를 기준으로 하였다. 세 곡의 노래를 선정하여 이 노래에 대한 소개와 노래의 역사적 배경의 내용을 토대로 교과서와의 내용통합을 이루었고 이를 바탕으로 교수-학습안을 작성하였다. 효과를 검증하기 위한 실험은 중학교 3학년 학생을 대상으로 하여 강의식 수업을 기본으로 하는 수업을 진행하였다. 실험 수업은 음악 활용 수업반과 일반 수업반으로 나누어 진행하고, 수업이 끝난 뒤에 설문과 평가를 실시하였다. 실험을 통해 얻어낸 결론은 다음과 같다. 교사 평가지 분석 결과 음악 활용반 학생들은 일반 수업반 학생들에 비해 수업내용에 대한 이해도가 높은 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 설문지 분석 결과에서도 음악활용 수업에 대한 선호도와 수업에 대해 재미를 느끼는 정도, 음악이 학습 내용을 이해하기 용이했는가는 설문에서 일반 수업반에 비해 긍정적인 결과가 나타났다. 음악활용 수업 반에 추가로 실시한 선호도 결과에서도 마찬가지로 긍정적인 결과를 볼 수 있었다. 그리고 학습지 분석 결과 음악활용 수업은 학생들이 노래를 들으면서 당시 사람들의 감정이나 당시대의 상황을, 혹은 우리 세대의 감정을 정서적으로 이해하고 진지하게 고민하게 하는 계기가 되었다. 또한 이를 통해 학생들은 자신 주변에 대해 눈을 돌리는 계기를 가졌고, 자신이 속한 사회문제를 관심있게 바라보아야겠다는 인식이 형성되었다. 결론적으로 정리하면, 음악 자료를 활용한 국사 수업은 학생들에게 흥미도, 수업 내용의 이해도, 역사적 사실과 현실의 소통에서 일반적인 강의식 수업에 비해 큰 효과가 있었음을 확인 할 수 있었다. 본 연구는 역사교육이 추구하는 목적달성을 위한 교수 방법 연구의 하나로써 우리에게 친숙한 음악 자료를 수업에 활용하는 방안을 새롭게 제시하였고 유의미한 효과를 얻어 냈다. 그러나 수업에서 좀 더 다양한 분야의 음악을 활용하지 못하였다는 점, 학업 성취도 검사를 통해서 음악활용학습이 장기적으로도 유의미한 결과를 주는지 알아보지 못했다는 것이 한계점으로 남는다.
