한국과 호주의 음악과 교육과정과 교과서 비교 연구

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the music curricular and textbooks for the seventh grade of middle school in Korea and Australia. Curriculum is defined as the planned interaction of pupils with instructional content, materials, resources, and processes for evaluating the attainment of educational objectives. Textbook is defined as a manual of instruction and a standard book in any branch of study. It is true that the curricular and textbooks are the most important factors in the field of education and enable educational activities in the school. Both the Korean and Australian curriculum are encourage all students to enjoy learning, and to be self-motivated, reflective, competent learners who will be able to take part in further study, work or training. They both aim to enforce musicality and creativity by providing a wide range of musical experience. Both curriculum emphasizes on traditional music and promote continuity and coherence of learning, and facilitate the transition between primary and secondary schooling. On the other hand, they differ in several ways. The Korean curriculum is divided into two areas of ‘understanding’ and ‘activity’, does not include an assessment strategies and achievement standards. The Australian curriculum is also divided into two areas but the fields are ‘concepts of music’ instead of ‘understanding’ and ‘learning experiences’ instead of ‘activity'. It contains assessment strategies and achievement standards. It also provides the way of reporting which is the process of providing feedback to students, parents and other teachers about students’ progress. The investigation of other countries’ curriculum and textbook as well as the Korean one will give opportunities to review our nation’s music curriculum and textbooks and can provide the right direction in our music educational system.;21세기는 지식 사회로서 한 나라의 경쟁력이 교육의 경쟁력에 달려 있다고 해도 과언이 아닐 정도로 교육의 중요성이 강조되고 있다. 지식 사회는 급격한 변화와 혁신을 요구하고 있으며 학교교육도 이런 사회에 유연하게 대응하고자 다양한 교수․학습 방법의 개발과 교재의 개혁을 요구하고 있다. 학교 교육 개혁의 요구에 따라 학교 교육의 나침반 역할을 하는 교육과정과 교과서 또한 개인과 사회, 그리고 학문의 요구와 발전에 따라 함께 변화해야 한다. 학교 교육의 중요한 목표가 전인적인 인간을 기르는 것이라면, 음악은 학교 교육에서 가장 중요한 교육 대상의 범주에 포함된다. 학교 음악 교육은 음악의 체험을 통하여 개인의 심미적 가능성을 최대한 확장하는 일이기 때문이다. 전인적인 인간이란 이성과 감성을 균형 있게 갖춘 인간을 의미하며, 이러한 관점에서 음악은 인간의 지성과 감성교육에 지대한 영향을 미치는 요소를 내포하고 있고, 학교 음악 교육은 그러한 인간의 타고난 능력들을 최대한 계발시켜 주는 것에 목적을 두고 있기 때문에 학교교육으로서의 음악 교육은 그 사명이 막중하다. 이러한 학교 음악 교육에 영향을 주고 그 교육활동을 가능하게 하는 요인에는 여러 가지가 있지만 그 중에서도 음악 교육의 방향을 제시해 주고 있는 교육과정과 교과서는 음악 교육에 있어 가장 중요한 역할을 하는 요인일 것이다. 교육과정이란 교육목표를 달성하기 위하여 선택된 교육내용과 학습활동을 체계적으로 편성·조직한 계획이며 교과서는 교육과정을 구체화한 자료로서, 교수-학습활동의 근간을 이룬다. 전체적인 교육과정에서 볼 때, 교과서는 교육과정과 그것이 실제로 전개되는 교수․학습의 과정을 연결하는 매개물 역할을 하고 있기에 학교 교육에서 교과서가 학생들에게 주는 영향력은 절대적이며, 교과서의 중요성은 아무리 강조해도 지나침이 없다. 특히 단일 교육과정 및 교과서 정책을 시행하고 있는 한국에서는 교육과정 및 교과서의 중요성이 더욱 부각되며, 교육과정 및 교과서의 중요성에 비추어 볼 때 교육과정 수립 및 음악교과서 편찬 문제는 음악교육에서 가장 진지하게 논의되어야 할 중요한 문제라고 할 수 있다. 당위론적으로 볼 때, 교과서에는 교육 이념과 목적이 들어 있고, 각 교과서의 목표를 구현하기 위한 교육 내용과 방법이 구체화되어 있다. 학교급이나 학년을 막론하고 모든 교사는 교과서를 주된 교재로 삼아 가르치고, 학생도 또한 교과서를 주된 학습 자료로 하여 배운다. 교육 일반 그리고 각 교과 교육에서 강조하는 민주 시민의 가치관, 각 분야의 지식과 기능, 그리고 창의성이나 비판성 등과 같은 고등 수준의 일반적 사고 기능도 대부분 교과서를 통해서 지도되고 학습된다. 비록 최신 과학 문명의 발달로 음향이나 영상을 활용하는 현대 교육 매체들이 급격하게 등장하고 있기는 하나, 아직까지는 학교 교육현장에서 활용되는 자료로서 인쇄 자료인 교과서를 능가하는 교수․학습 자료는 없다. 좋은 교과서는 교육과정에 명시된 교육 목표를 충실히 달성하기 위하여 필요한 교수․학습 활동을 구체적으로 나타내는 자료이어야 한다. 따라서 더욱 효과적으로 교육 목표를 달성하기 위해서는 교육과정의 내용을 잘 따르면서 교과서의 외형체제를 다양하게 개발하여 학습자의 흥미와 욕구를 충족시킬 수 있는 교과서 개발을 위한 교과서 연구는 필수적이다. 교과서를 개발하는 방법 중 하나는 참고자료로서 선진국의 교육과정과 교과서 제도, 현장에서 사용되고 있는 교과서를 분석하고, 그로부터 값진 정보와 자료를 얻는 것이다. 여러 선진국들 중에서 특히 호주는 2003년 스위스 로잔에 있는 국제경영개발연구원(IMD)으로부터 세계 46개국 중 교육시스템 경쟁력 1위 국가로 선정되었다. 따라서 이 연구에서는 호주의 음악과 교육과정과 교과서를 심층적으로 연구하고 한국의 7차 교육과정과 비교 분석 함으로써 한국의 음악 교육 개선을 위한 시사점과 발전방향을 토론해 보고자 하였다.
