대수 영역 중 문자 사용시 나타나는 오류에 관한 연구

Abstract

중학교 대수학습은 문자의 사용으로부터 출발하므로 문자의 사용을 이해하고 형식적인 방법으로 조작, 표시하는 것은 더욱 심화된 대수영역의 학습과 나아가 수학의 다른 영역 학습의 토대가 된다. 그러므로 문자 사용과 관련하여 갖는 오류들이 간과되었을 경우 기타 다른 영역에까지 어려움을 가져오게 되리라는 것은 명백하다. 본 연구에서는 중학교 1학년 학생들을 대상으로 대수중에서도 특히 가장 기초가 되는 문자의 사용과 관련한 오류들을 살펴보고 상세화하며 개선방법을 모색해 보고자 다음과 같이 연구문제를 정하였다. 첫째, 문자의 사용과 관련하여 어떠한 오류들이 나타나는가? 둘째, 오류 개선에 초점을 맞춘 수업모형에 따라 수업을 하고나서 즉각적으로 학생들의 수행에 변화가 있는가? 세째, 오류 개선에 초점을 맞춘 수업모형에 따라 수업을 하고나서 일정한 시간이 경과된 후에 학생들의 수행에 변화가 있는가? 이를 위해 CSMS Project와 SESM Project를 분석의 틀로 삼아 사전시험과 인터뷰, 즉각적 사후시험, 시차를 둔 사후시험을 실시하였으며 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 오류들은 주로 문자의 해석, 문자의 형식적 조작, 대수적 표시와 규약과 관련하여 나타나고 있었으며 이를 더욱 구체화해 보았을 때의 결과는 다음과 같다. 문자의 해석과 관련하여 나타내는 오류들은 문자가 숫자를 나타내는지 다른 어떤 대상을 나타내는지 구분하지 못하는 데서 오는 혼란, 문자의 범위를 자연수로 한정시켜 생각하는 경향, 문자를 특정 미지수로만 인식하여 서로 다른 문자는 항상 서로 다른 숫자를 나타낸다고 생각하는 것 등으로 나타났다. 문자의 형식적 조작과 관련하여 나타나는 오류들은 비형식적인 방법으로 접근하는 것, 대수에서는 적절치 못한 산술에서의 조작 사용, 답을 구하고도 이것이 적절한 표현인지 알지 못하는 것 등으로 나타났다. 대수적 표시나 규약에서의 오류들은 괄호를 적절히 사용하지 못하고 대수적 합을 항의 결합으로 대치하는 것 등을 들 수 있다. 둘째, 수업이 끝난 지 1일 후 즉각적인 사후시험을 보았을 때 오류의 교정에 있어 급격한 증진이 있었다. 이는 이 수업모형이 학생들의 문자 사용과 관련한 오류들을 줄이는데 효과적이라는 것을 반영한다. 세째, 수업이 끝난 지 4주 후 시차를 둔 사후시험을 보았을 때 즉각적인 수행때보다는 약간 점수가 낮아졌으나 비교적 수업전보다는 수행이 증진됐음을 알 수 있었다. 이는 이 수업모형에 학생들의 사고에 있어 재구성이 이루어질 수 있도록 작용하였음을 알 수 있다. 그러므로 문자 사용과 관련한 오류의 개선방법의 하나로서 이 수업모형을 적용할 수 있다고 볼 수 있다.;In junior high school, the study of algebra starts from the use of letters. To understand and to framing up the use in formal way become the basement of more deepening study of algebra and the other fields of mathematics. So it is obvious that we will have more problems in understanding the other fields if we failed to notice the errors within the use of letters. This study - intended for junior high's first grade student - established for examing the errors related to the use of the letters that is fundamental in algebra and a solution that problem. The point of this study are as follows. 1. Concerning with the use of letters, what kind of errors are indicating? 2. After we complete a course of study which focusing the betterment of errors, is there a change in their deed immediately? 3. After we complete a course of study which focusing the betterment of errors, is there a change in their deed delayed? For this problems, we operated pre-test, personal interviews, immediated -post test and delayed-post test, taking CSMS Project and SESM project as a frame of analysis. The results are as follows; 1. In interpretation and formal operating with letters and in notation and convention, there were so many errors were showed. These are concretizing errors which are indicated by the students. We can find out that those errors which are indicated with the interpretation of letters lies in the confusion whether letters are indicating numbers or other subjects, the tendency of thinking the range of letters limited natural numbers, the recognizing that different letters always represent different numbers due to the misunderstanding letters as specific unknown. The errors which are indicated with the formal operating with the letters were accessing with informal way, improper operating use of arithmetic in algebra, and not knowing it is the proper expression or not, even if they found out the answer. The confusion of notation and convention in algebra were that they couldn't know the proper use of the brancket and they. placed term's conjoining in the place of algebraic addition. 2. In case of doing the immediate post test after the study, there were increasingly more improvement in their deed. This implies that this instruction sample was very effective. 3. Four weeks after the instruction, the level of marks became a little lower, but comparatively improved than before the instruction. This signifies that this instruction sample can change the student's thinking itself. Therefore we can use this instruction sample for one of the betterment of errors concerning the use of letters.
