韓國과 英國의 中學校 科學敎科書 比較分析

Abstract

본 연구에서는 제 6차 교육과정을 통해 개정된 한국의 중학교 과학 교과서와 영국의 통합과학 교과서의 지구과학 영역 부분을 비교하여 두 교과서의 교과내용 구성과 Chiappetta가 제시한 4가지 범주 (과학 지식, 과학의 탐구성, 사고하는 방법으로서의 과학, STS)의 교육과정의 균형을 밝혀 보고자 한다. 1. 한국 교과서는 『과학 1』 『과학 2』 『과학 3』으로 각 학년에 한 개의 대단원씩 지구과학 영역을 다루고 있다. 세 개의 대단원은 서로 연관성 없이 다른 내용으로 구성되어 있는 분과주의적인 교과서이다. 영국 교과서는 『통합과학 Ⅰ』 『통합과학 Ⅱ』로 세 개의 대단원에서 지구과학 영역을 다루고 있고 각 대단원들은 다른 영역의 내용이 연계되어 있고, 인문, 사회, 환경, 기술 등의 내용과 연계되어 과학에 접근하고 있는 통합 교육과정으로 구성되어 있다. 2. 한국과 영국의 과학 교육목표를 비교해 보면 모두 STS 교육을 강조하고 과학의 탐구성을 강조하고 있다. 3. 목차에 준거하여 교과내용 구성 전개 형태를 살펴보면 한국 교과서는 지구과학의 개념을 중심으로 체계적으로 제시하고 있다. 영국 교과서는 지구 과학의 개념을 체계적으로 제시함과 동시에 여러 소재나 주제로 구성된 장을 제시하고 있다. 4. 교과내용의 자료 구성을 분석하면 지면수, 시각 자료 제시 정도, 읽을거리, 시험수 모두 영국보다 한국이 높다. 단원 비중도를 비교한 결과는 한국과 영국의 교과서 모두 지질, 대기, 천문 분야가 비슷하게 나왔다. 5. Chiappetta가 제시한 4가지 범주 (과학 지식, 과학의 탐구성, 사고하는 방법으로서의 과학, STS)로 교육과정의 균형을 분석한 결과로 한국과 영국 모두 과학의 지식을 60% 정도 차지하여 지식 위주의 교과서로 구성되어 있다. 과학의 탐구성과 사고하는 방법으로서의 과학에서 한국 교과서가 높게 나타났고 STS 범주에서 영국의 교과서가 높게 나타났다. 따라서 한국의 교과서는 과학의 탐구 능력 신장을 강조하고 영국의 교과서는 STS 교육을 강조하고 있다고 할 수 있다.;This study analytically compares the contents of science textbooks in middle school of Korea with those of England, with emphasis of the field of earth science. The Korean textbooks consist of three parts, for instanes, science, Ⅰ, Ⅱ, and Ⅲ, which independently include the portions in the fields of geology, atmospheric science and oceanography, and astronomy, respectively. On the other hand, British txtbooks are composed of two pants, for examples, Integrted science Ⅰ and Ⅱ. With view of intergated curriculum, the earth seience is interdisciplinarily in connection with other fields ; natural and social sciences, enviromental problems technolgy, and so on. The goals of science education in both countries are similar to each other to some extents. The textbooks in both countries commonly emphasize the investiatory ability and the education for S.T.S. (Science and Technology in Society). Korean science textbooks mainly concentrate on the concepts of earth science, while British textbooks deal with the topics for S.T.S. as well as the science concepts. Korean Books quantatively contain higher in the number of pages figures, graphs, experiments and the stories for scientific common sense than those in England. However, the textboods in both countries were nearly egualy allocated in the quantitative contents for the fields of geology, atmospheric science and oceanography, and astronomy without bias. In addition, Korean and British textbooks were analyzed by considering the following aspects ; (a) science as a way of knowledge, (b) science as a body of investigating, (c) science as a society way of thinking, and (d) the interaction among science technology and society. the anslysis showed that Korean textbooks have more emphasis on the science as a body of investigation, while British textbooks have more weights on the science interaction among S.T.S.
